Bruce Arians Hopes To Have Shaq Barrett For Playoffs

December 27th, 2021

Update.

[UPDATE: 12:32 p.m.] Not good news on Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett.

Today, Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians said Shaq has a sprained MCL and ACL, but it is not severe, Arians added.

Arians didn’t sound as if Shaq will play in the final two games of the regular season and said he hopes Barrett can play in the playoffs.

In other words, stay tuned.

[UPDATE: 12:32 p.m.] Interestingly, as Arians’ information hit social media, uber NFL insider Adam Schefter of BSPN shared very interesting intel on Shaq. Schefter’s source suggests the Bucs expect Shaq to hit the field in the postseason.

    Ugh.. doesn’t sound promising.

Key word there is “hopes.” Not good.

  3. zzbuc Says:

When God distributed luck, he did not behave very well with the Bucs…dammmm!!!!

  4. Bird Says:

    This is getting old

  5. Winny Testaverde Says:

Didn’t watch the full game…relegated fo RedZone. It sounds like he went back in for a series after the injury? If so…the medical staff truly is chock full of quackery.

  6. buddy Says:

Bucs sack King??? Hmm fanboy much Joe, he has a total of 37.5 sacks as a Buc

  7. Rayjay1122 Says:

I tore my ACL at football practice in 2007. The next day not knowing it was torn, I walked 4 miles on it. He will be fine, hust put a brace on it and he will be fine for the playoffs. Not worried at all.

  8. Mike Johnson Says:

Sometimes its not the very best team that wins it all. Its the Healthiest Team’
hittin on all cylinders going into the playoffs. Its gonna be an uphill battle for our Bucs mixing in backup pieces. Lets hope it can be done.

  9. Bojim Says:

Making up for last year injury-wise. Let’s see what we’re made of. Go Bucs.

  10. Beeej Says:

I was thinking how bad it was last year that we lost Vita, wow

  11. Francisco Guzman Says:

This team is screwing themselves with these injuries. I don’t get it. They picked the wrong time to get these injuries.

  12. Kgh4life Says:

Reading some of these comments one would think it’s ACL tear. It’s a sprain people, which means he just needs rest. Good thing the Bucs only have the Jets and Panthers coming up.

  13. adam from ny Says:

sprained my left gonad once and was back in action a week later…strokin’ and bull rushing that azz…spermatozoa were even doing swim moves…

he should be fine in a few weeks to jump back in the action 🙂

  14. PassingThru Says:

I’ve learned to discount any initial diagnosis by the medical staff. In fact, I was waiting for the other shoe to drop on Evans.

  15. Bucsfanman Says:

Getting him back for the playoffs would be awesome. In the meantime, Anthony Nelson, Cam Gill, and JTS should get plenty of snaps.
There was a lot to be encouraged by yesterday by these players.

  16. SOEbuc Says:

Give me a f#cking break. Never listening to Bucs first injury analysis ever again cus I know I’ll be smh with updates.

  17. Joe Says:

You must remember, not everyone (including Joe) is a medical professional. 🙂

True story: Years ago Joe had a football team trainer (not the Bucs) walk up to him, got right in Joe’s face and said, “You f@#$ing sportswriters don’t know sh!t about medicine! How can you c@#$*&ers be so stupid about medicine?”

Joe shot back, “You really think if any sportswriter knew as much as a trainer or a doctor about medicine we’d be doing this for a living?”

The dude backed off, shrugged his shoulders and said, “I see your point.”

  18. Aceofaerospace Says:

We just need JPP back. After all, he has never lost a playoff game. Yeah, I’m kinda joking, but until he’s lost one, he’s never lost.

  19. sasquatch Says:

JPP is done. Time to move on.

  20. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

A team full of back ups at 11-4 is nothing to sneeze at. They beat Carolina and should finish up the last 2 games. We can let Shaq rest. Hopefully Whitehead can stay healthy because he was a huge boost in the secondary. Nice to see some PBUs finally. I’m not too concerned with our first playoff game. Bowles has done well with all the injuries he had to work around now it’s the offenses turn. We can handle the weaker playoff teams it’s the 2nd round that we’ll run into problems. If the defense can keep putting on the pressure the way they did against Carolina that will go a long way to helping our secondary .

  21. PassingThru Says:

A sprain is by definition a stretching or minor tear of a ligament.

All we know are the announced time tables.

  22. Negative nate Says:

For a team that brought back all 22 starters, plus AB, only the first quarter of the first game were they all healthy at the same time smh

  23. David Says:

I am hoping Shaq, JPP, Winfield, Evans, Fournette, LVD can get a lot of rest the next couple weeks and be ready to roll in the playoffs but right now it’s really hard to be optimistic through the fog

  24. PassingThru Says:

I have no confidence in JPP returning to form. Rotator cuff tears take many months of rest and rehab, surgery or not. All it takes is one or two hard hits and he’s back to square one.

  25. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Great so he’ll he out of practice and out of sync just as he was starting to really come on!! … They better not sit ANYONE!! This is not a playoff ready team!! They need to get their shist together if they plan on making it past the first game!! … We may be watching Brady last season!

  26. Nano107 Says:

    Rest him
    We can win out

  27. John Says:

We just gotta get into playoffs healthy. Tom needs to play the first half or 3 quarters only. 4th seed isn’t too bad. We’d prob end up w Arizona at home. I’ll take that. So hopefully by 2nd round Everyone is healed enough to make this run! Go Bucs!!

  28. captivajim Says:

our defense really needs Shaq, & LVD for playoffs.. they should be rested till then.

JPP needs surgery–hopefully he’ll recover & be back next yr .

  29. Listnfrmafar Says:

Why are these guys going back in, isn’t possible it made it worse? Gronk, back in, Godwin running down sidelines. How about trade in some of the over abundance of coaching staff and invest in quality medical personnel??

  30. PSL Bob Says:

I seem to recall that Chris Godwin’s initial diagnosis was a sprain or “minor” tear. An MRI revealed a major injury, and he’s out for the rest of the season. Is the “sprain” diagnosis the final word?

  31. geno711 Says:

Medically speaking, a sprain is a tear. Anytime the ACL is involved the injury is worse with a likely longer recovery.

  32. Craig Says:

He’ll be back, with a knee brace. It will slow him a step or two, but his potential will change those games a bit.

That is, if it really is just a sprain.

  33. captivajim Says:

    If its a Grade 1 sprain–its usually 2-4 wks rest & ice packs,,then with a brace..

But if its Grade 2 ( been stretched till loose or partial tear) -its minor surgery for an athlete with 3-6 month recovery. Non-athletic folks can be fine sometimes without a brace ,or others may want a brace for added stability

Grade 3 is complete tear–its major surgery (Godwin) & a year to recover enough to play.

LETS HOPE its # 1 ,,GO BUCS

  34. unbelievable Says:

    @listnr

Godwin did not go back in after getting hurt.

  35. firethecannons Says:

He is not needed till 1/22 that is the division round so he has 4 weeks to heal up

  36. Greg Says:

@listn. The HC said the Gronk issue was a mistake. However having CG run on the sidelines is part of the diagnostic process by very astute medical personnel! It did not worsen the condition, purely an evaluation by very smart people that want his best interests.

  37. Chris l Says:

    Correction * playoff games!
