Antonio Brown Will Be Part-Time When He Returns

December 20th, 2021

Antonio Brown

The good news is Antonio Brown is riding in on Devin White’s horse to save the Bucs’ passing game with Chris Godwin now lost for the season with a blown ACL.

The not-so-great news is that Brown is not ready to put the Bucs on his back.

Brown, the future Hall of Fame receiver has always been a part-time guy since joining the Bucs, and that’s not going to change on Sunday at Carolina.

In case you missed it, iconic Bucs No. 1 receiver Mike Evans has a wounded hamstring and Breshad Perriman has yet to be cleared from a case of The Sickness.

Bucco Bruce Arians said today that Brown will “hopefully” be able to handle “30 or 35 plays” on Sunday. For those wondering, the Bucs had 74 offensive snaps last night, and Brown’s high this season is 42.

Joe is very curious to see how much the Bucs push Brown in his limited snaps. Obviously, they’re going to need him, so he might end up getting a dozen targets in his part-time role.

Byron Leftwich is sure going to earn his money this week. Despite the massive lineup shakeup, the Bucs still have a lot more firepower than other teams.

Going to be a very similar game on Sunday. Carolina has a tough defense and an offense built on the run game. Panthers have a good pass rush, fast linebackers and corners that can cover. Safety Chinn is solid as well. This won’t be a cake walk.

  2. Medicated Pete Says:

I doubt it, Bruce likes to play injured guys 65 snaps

  3. Francisco Guzman Says:

I am curious why won’t they push him? Isn’t he already healthy? The guy has been out for a long time now.

  4. Francisco Guzman Says:

Bucs need to win out if they wanna get antoejr crack at a super bowl. I expect the rams to lose another game. Cardinals play the cowboys.

  5. Francisco Guzman Says:

AB has been out for two months and almost a week.

  6. Keith Says:

Let’s be honest here. The Bucs have looked bad all season on Defense. Offense has been up and down also. BUT, The numbers say different. This team is slowly falling apart. Don’t be surprised when Brady hangs them up after this season and all his followers depart. 30 plus years of being a fan. I can see the writing on the wall.

@”….the Bucs still have a lot more firepower than other teams….”

…if you know how to use it…. cause last night they used NON.
never being confused like after this game….
    Is the end already here??
Is been for a long time…. and TB12 was hiding with his talent/stamina??
I voted “Not sure” on the J pole for last night game outcome.
That option I will pick for the rest of the season, if asked again.
I don’t know what team we are left off, one thing I know and knew it since BA & CO came here:
    Our coaching suck; BIG TIME.

  8. Francisco Guzman Says:

Keith brady is not hanging it up. They still have a good receiving core. I hope Brady builds some chemistry with scotty miller. The my only concern is this coaching staff. They don’t know how to make in game adjustments. Can only imagine if belichick was the coach of this team. Also BL is terrible. If this team had a good coaching staff they could withstand the lost of a guy like godwin. Everyone will write this team off right now.

  9. Francisco Guzman Says:

Bucs need to focus on winning these last 3 games and everything will take care of itself. They win out i believe they will get that second seed. The rams are losing another game.

  10. Francisco Guzman Says:

Brady won with less weapons in New England but he had a heck of a coaching staff. This coaching staff is lousy.

  11. 4eva_i_luv_tampabay Says:

If the coaching sucks the how in the hell are we defending super bowl champs. How in the hell are we 10-4 . We lost to the same teams ,(swap Chicago for Washington) us coming out on top against bills was a blessing.

  12. Listnfrmafar Says:

Francisco, you hit the nail square on the head. I Brady did win with far less but it isn’t Brady that needs the coaching it’s the remaining players mostly the younger players. Belichick and crew were adamant that ALL players knew what their positions were and what to do in almost all scenarios. So when I hear a coach throwing players under the bus especially back-ups for falling short, I can only imagine what they aren’t getting from this staff. Clearly lack of preparation is #1 and apparently conditioning isn’t far behind. Let’s face BA, where the head goes the arse follows so if you’re lazy most likely your team will be too. MoRE DAY’S OFF!!!

  13. Beeej Says:

At least he’s gonna spend the whole week practicing with these backups, and more importantly, they KNOW they are gonna play

  14. Anonymous Says:

Like I’ve been saying for a long time Lefty sucks. BA saying he’d make a good head coach is ludicrous. Pray to God he doesn’t become the Bucs future head coach. He is no more than BA’s puppet. I hope to hell the owners see through all of BA’s BS.

  15. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Panthers give up over 120 yards rushing per game at home , so get commited to the ground and pound , start preparing your offense to be versatile and balanced in the playoffs.
I am so tired of the lack of commitment to the running game. During the playoffs last season our offense was right at 50-50 run and pass. Balance is key to being unpredictable. Run a draw or a screen on 3rd and 6 or more. Do the Bucs have any Jap plays in their playbook?

  16. Ed Says:

The more and more I read comments from smart viewers on this site, the more I am realizing that the Buc offense is very limited to its play selection. If the short passes are taken away as we are starting to see, there isn’t an intermediate game that can move the ball.

Watching better teams on TV, especially the Packers, it is really spectacular the way they mix it up. When the Bucs throw a screen or a short one to WR, the defenses are right on it. When Rogers goes back and there is pressure, the screens are thrown and there is no one to stop it. They were like a machine vs Baltimore yesterday.

The Byron Leftwich offense is truly one dimensional with tendencies that telegraph the play. At this point the Bucs are going to have to throw in some new plays and scheme some big plays in the running game. Fournette wasn’t looking very good as a runner last night. Its worrisome to see this offense so bad vs 2nd half with Bills and last night vs Saints.

  17. Bird Says:

    Man. Godwin injury hurts bad

Can julian edelman get out of retirement?
He played slot. I know our slot guys block but hey these are not normal times with all these injuries.

  18. unbelievable Says:

Meh, we heard Sherman would be part time after getting signed and he played like 90+% of snaps about 3 days later… so we’ll see with Brown.

@Ed- it seems that a lot of teams have figured out our playbook. Probably because the majority of plays we run are very basic. It was the same thing last year and the year before. We simply rely on our guys being better, which is why we struggle against good defenses. There just isn’t the creativity you see with other offenses like the Packers, 49ers, etc.

  19. Hodad Says:

    Larry Fitzgerald antbody?

  20. Bird Says:

    Hodad

    He was my second thought

  21. Tackleblockwin Says:

I agree with Keith. I think Brady may call it quits after this season. I’m not trying to predict so I can say I told you so. Just a few things he has said, and the way he has said them.

  22. cmurda Says:

Keith. Calm your breasts and enjoy the ride. Brady hangs em up when he hangs em up. We can’t control that.

As far as the P Cats this weekend. They have a decent defense but they don’t have the Aints defense. We should be able to find more success. I’m pretty sure you can count on Brady demanding it.

  23. Thomas51 Says:

I rather have Antonio Brown part time, than a lot of full time receivers.

No one knows when Brady will call it quits, except Brady.

  24. The Daily Coroner Says:

“Byron Leftwich is sure going to earn his money this week”.
Too bad he didn’t earn it this week.

  25. David Says:

If Evans and Godwin are out, I don’t believe that at all. If Evans doesn’t play I think AB plays a lot
Odds are they have Miller, Brown, Perriman, Darden, Johnson

  26. Crunchbuc Says:

Eave Darden at home. Activate Cyril Grayson. Let Scooter return punts.

  27. Scott Says:

They need to cut vaughn and darden. Vaghn cant run o catch and darden cant run a route or return punts he trips over his own shoe strings everytime he has the ball. We also need a new punter 30 yd punts is not going to cut it in the playoffs.

  28. JGhotier Says:

    Why?

  29. Swampbuc Says:

Boron needs to review his opening drive script from the Giants game and emulate it for the opening drive against the Panthies. He will rebound from the worst playcalling performance of his career.

  30. TOrnellas Says:

I believe the BUCS only have 1 loss when AB starts. Go BUCS

  31. Joe Says:

I believe the BUCS only have 1 loss when AB starts. Go BUCS

    5-0 this season.

  32. Daniel Says:

Larry Fitzgerald played in the slot on an Arians team. He would know the offense well.

  33. BucsCoolade Says:

Hanging onto AB thru the covidiot protocols might be arians best team move ..

at a critical time now , does he save the offense?

Prediction… um, kinda. Although Panthers defense is sneaky good. We shall see.

  34. firethecannons Says:

We also need a new punter 30 yd punts is not going to cut it in the playoffs. AGREE! we need to cut Darden and Vaughn but especially Darden –do not use that kid in the playoffs! matter of time till he allows the ball to get punched out on a kick/punt return or has a muffed punt–he is useless–he seemed like a cool idea but it has not worked out. He cannot connect with TB12 and when he does he causes an interception–remember the WFT game! Stop the madness and bench Darden till the end of our season then replace next year–not worth the risk!

Hey Keith:You don’t know what your talking about!
