Leonard Fournette’s Awesome Day

November 30th, 2021

Winner.

Wanna read a crazy stat?

Prior to the Bucs-Colts game Sunday in Indianapolis, the Colts defense had allowed five rushing touchdowns in 11 games.

Playoff Lenny had three when the game was finished. That’s how dominant Playoff Lenny was. It was his first four-touchdown game with the Bucs, three of which came on the ground.

Playoff Lenny has grown as both an NFL back and a person. He’s now becoming something of a team leader. He rallied his teammates in the locker room at halftime when he sensed they were down, and then he told Tom Brady that either he or Brady would win the game.

It was Playoff Lenny.

After the game, Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians suggested he wanted Playoff Lenny to go down at the Colts-2 so the Bucs could kick a game-winning field goal on the final play of the game (WTH???). That wasn’t in Playoff Lenny’s winning mindset but he later said he’s a team guy.

“If coach wanted that, I would have done it,” Playoff Lenny said. “We didn’t talk about it at all. It was great just capping off the game like that [on a 28-yard house call] with a punch and it got scary at the end. Like I said, it’s a team sport, we came together, and we made it happen.”

And then Playoff Lenny made sure he gave Ronald Jones props.

“We had a game plan. I think Coach B (Byron Leftwich) did an excellent job of rotating the backs. Was a lot fresher at the end, RoJo (Ronald Jones II) came in, did his job and as a unit, it was all about winning. No matter what it takes, no matter the part the play, as long as we get it done and execute, that’s all that matters.”

Does this guy seem like a cancer to you? That’s the whiff the Jags tried to push to cover their arses when they released him in the summer of 2020. Joe even asked Playoff Lenny this past training camp if the Jags tried to blackball him within the league’s backchannels. Playoff Lenny didn’t deny it.

Joe is still stoked about that win! And one reason is the way Playoff Lenny balled out.

And the kick is blocked, recovered by the Colts, he could go all the way… no thank you. score the TD and handle your business.

    Exactly!

@dewey: Exactly! That just happened last night, on a PAT.

Sorry, you beat me to the “publish” button.

  7. D-Rome Says:

Strange how the Jaguars thought he was a bust.

  8. Tampaabaybucfan Says:

With 20 seconds left….you take the 7 points….and do you job on the kickoff…..

I wonder if Pinion didn’t kick so many touchbacks how teams would return against us…I think we saw..

    As for Lenny…..he was fantastic…..and don’t forget Rojo’s contribution….7 carries for 37 yards 5.3 ypc…..not too shabby.

  9. Cobraboy Says:

If the Bucs were ahead, even by one, go OOB at the 1.

    Otherwise, never don’t score. Ever.

A chip shot is no gimme.

    GIANTS GAME.

    9/22/19

Jameis Winston drives the Bucs all the way down the field in under 2:00 for a 34 yard FG.

Matt Gay shanks it. Bucss lose 32-31. Bucs fall to 1-2 and never recover.

Yup. Joe asked Arians after the game if he considered going for six instead. He said, no.

    Whoops.

Fournette has become a real Beast, just like he was back at LSU.
Now, he has also become a Team Leader as well!
We are lucky to have him.

  13. Duane Says:

Lenny just wants to win. How many players get fed up with the losing ways of the Jags and get traded or discarded? I dont think he is just talking to preach to the choir. He looks like he really feels this way. Im not saying he is as dialed in as TB12, but he is noticeably becoming a driving force on this team with each passing week.

And RoJo had one! So we almost doubled Indy numbers!!!

It says a lot about our Oline too

    Yes the OLINE DESERVES PROPS

  16. Bucsfanman Says:

    Absolutely LOVE IT! Feed ’em!

Not for nothing but coaching factors into attitude as well. The job BA has done simply cannot be overstated.

  17. The Beer Whisperer Says:

When Fournette wasn’t dealing with ankle sprains, or playing Alabama, he was a highlight reel at LSU.

He set some SEC records, which says a lot.

  18. kyle Says:

so the question looming joe, is, are the bucs going to pay lenny? I know its dumb w the cap to pay a running back, but hes still young, maybe a 2 or 3 year deal?

  19. PSL Bob Says:

Let’s see. Making a FG on the last play of the game vs. the Colts driving the length of the field with no time outs and 20 seconds remaining to tie the game and send it to OT. I’ll take the latter every time. Pinion often puts it through the end zone forcing the ball to come out to the 25 yard line. The big return was a fluke that rarely happens against our special teams (who weren’t too special on this particular occasion).

  20. Ben green Says:

Brady will hand off consistently when faced with light fronts. LF is a great security blanket for him. In Ben’s opinion, they should run more. Lineman love to run block, and Brady’s career failures have been linked to the lack of a productive run game. As y’all know, the offense isn’t the problem on this team. They’ll go as far as this defense takes them

  21. Listnfrmafar Says:

Ya think Lenny loves Tommy Boy who rescued him and stuck with him after all his early dropped balls? The GOAT on the field and GM iff.

  22. Tim in PSL Says:

When it’s contract time for him, I hope they give him one. Not a Zeke Elliot type contract, something reasonable. He’s running like he did in LSU, the running that made him a 1st round pick, and he likes being here.

  23. Buczilla Says:

I’m impressed with Fournette and he has really grown on me. He’s a good, all around back and deserves a new contract. I hope some sorry team doesn’t offer him ridiculous money so that we can keep him, but regardless I appreciate all that he has done for us. Yet another great move by Licht and an impressive job by Arians helping to get this kids head right. Sean McVay over Bucco Bruce?!! The nerve of some people. Lol, get that sh!t the f outta here! 😛

  24. JimBuc2 Says:

Playoff Penny has grown personally, and professionally. He worked hard on his pass catching this season, with noticeable improvement. During last season’s playoff run he cried about his touches. BA told him to accept his role, or get cut, but Tom Brady told him not to worry, he had a much greater prise in mind. Lenny sniffled a bit, looked at Tom, and said “OK”. Sure enough, Brady wiped those frustration tears away with a SB ring. My admiration for both men has grown immeasurably. We are blessed to have players of this caliber on our team.
    Go Bucs!

  25. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Mad props to our O Line coach as well! Truly got that line plug and play ready like last year. Though our 3rd stringer struggled some he still held his own especially run blocking. Pass blocking is great again. That’s a huge plus in our quest for another SB .

  26. unbelievable Says:

Mentioned this yesterday but you can see the growth in him and the difference from the beginning of last year to now, in terms of his mindset, attitude, etc. Gotta give some big props to Arians, Leftwich and Brady for helping him with that.
