“It’s Not Very Good.”

November 28th, 2021

Big loss

After today’s game, Bucco Bruce Arians lamented that the Bucs played about six minutes in Indianapolis and lost four starters to injury.

Down went Devin White and Aaron Stinnie, and cornerback Jamel Dean early.

The extent of Sunday injuries are rarely known for at least 20 hours, but after the game Arians had a troubling tone when speaking of Dean.

“It’s not very good,” he said.

No, Arians wasn’t referring to the guys playing behind Dean; he was talking about Dean’s new shoulder injury.

With Dean out, it was obvious that Colts playcaller head coach Frank Reich was all about abandoning the run and coming after the Bucs’ defensive backs. At one point, the run-first Colts attempted 26 consecutive passes. Cornerbacks Pierre Desir, Ross Cockrell and Sean Murphy-Bunting did a lot of bending and breaking, but in the end they had just enough thread left to hold on.

If the Bucs are minus Dean and Carlton Davis in Atlanta next Sunday, just be thankful the Bucs have enough offense to maul the Falcons.

So 2021 is the year of “the War of Attrition” for the Bucs.

The Starting 22 from last year have played less than 1 half of the first game against Dallas.

OH well, on to Atl next week, forward march.

GO walking mash unit Bucs Go!!!!!

  2. Rod Munch Says:

With as bad as Desir was, he was still better than Dee Delaney.

The fact we’re talking about these scrubs is alarming. If I was playing the Bucs I’d throw at Desir/Delaney/Cockwell on every single play if they were 1-on-1 coverage. Even if you don’t get a completion you know you’re about 90% likely to get a flag.

  3. EA Says:

    Totally Fixed !!!

  4. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

I looked at the replay of that play and couldn’t see what vicious hit or hard landing he took to get so injured and couldn’t see anything. He must be super brittle like how he plays scared at times. He should take up basketball

  5. Shark Coast Tactical Says:

    They are getting better.

  6. Bird Says:

Carlton davis please stand up please stand up

  7. Francisco Guzman Says:

Meh these guys have been so injury prone this year it’s ridiculous. Can they hold the falcons under 24? Highly doubt it.

  8. ModHairKen Says:

Well, with all these injuries, it would not have been a surprise if they lost. But they didn’t. They took advantage of TOs. The backups gave their best.

It was a win that a lot of people penciled in as a loss.

The Rams, Cowboys and Saints have disappeared because of injuries. This team hasn’t. Somehow, this team beat the Giants and the Colts. With Turkey Day in between.

  9. FirstTimePoster Says:

“With Dean out (and Taylor getting crushed in the run game), it was obvious Colts playcaller head coach Frank Reich was all about abandoning the run and coming after the Bucs defensive backs.”

    Fixed it.

kong suh should just beat up one defensive back per week in practice…

then they toss him on injured reserve for a bit and save everyone the game troubles…

our DBs go down weekly…we might as well do it ourselves at this point…we can pick and choose…

    like this:

todd bowles: “umm ross, you played like sh!t the other day, bruce says go see big suh in the locker room right now”

    one hour later:

bucs announce cockrell slipped in the shower and “sprained his entire body” and is now on injured reserve…

    simple…

  11. LVMYBUCS Says:

Dean plays scared half the time anyways, what type of player are you that you cant even tackle a guy and not get hurt. That tackle was nothing special.

  12. adam from ny Says:

and can we please talk about vita’s tooth

  13. Francisco Guzman Says:

I don’t think nothing will change when they get healthy if they keep playing that soft zone.

  14. stpetebucsfan Says:

Both Dean and Davis are lacking in what Tony Dungy and others have described as the most critical of all abilities. AVAILABILITY. The guys simply miss way to many games!

Sometimes injuries are truly bad luck, they happen to everybody, even the GOAT missed most of a season with a blown out knee.

But when it happens EVERY season of your career is it time to start wondering if terms like “injury prone”, “tight muscles”, “brittle” start coming into play.

It’s growing increasingly hard to be excited over two guys with talent who miss sooo many games and spend much of the time they do play banged up and hurting.

  15. geno711 Says:

I thought it was obvious where Dean got hurt. It is a physical game and he got hurt as he was making a tackle. Not sure that he is brittle. Most people in this world could not last 1 NFL game. JD has played 37 of them.

Very funny, I wish they were not the walking wounded lol
but maybe you are on to something here Adam lolololol

  17. Vsyl Says:

Edwards should be put as 3rd corner

  18. Tampabaybucfan Says:

You can fall on a shoulder the wrong way and injure it severely….

We can make it with SMB, Davis & Edwards in the slot….or Winfield…..not optimum…..hopefully, Dean can get back for the last couple of games & the playoffs.

  19. WalkdaPlank Says:

This is even more concerning considering Sean Murphy-Bumming had a terrible game. Gave up a 60+ yard TD, multiple blown zone coverages for medium gains, and two blatant DPI calls. All against terrible Colts receivers.

  20. Lamarcus Says:

This whole team is injury prone. Not like the Ravens but geez. Never seen the Bucs so banged up. Surprisingly Brady is holding up. But it’s not a huge loss. Our secondary is trash

  21. Swampbuc Says:

I injure my shoulder sleeping at night.

Atlanta will be a challenge with all these injuries.

  22. Izod Says:

the team’s roster will need to undergo serious overhauls in the coming years. The Bucs last and best hope of making the SB again is THIS year.

  23. Max Vasher Says:

@Shark Coast Tactical, totally agree. The more guys like Desir play the better they’re getting.

  24. geno711 Says:

In this now passing league, cornerback is typically the most injured position in the NFL every week.

For instance, this week there are 40 cornerbacks on the active roster of teams listed as injured for just the Sunday and Monday games. Running back was 2nd most with 28.

This does not include the Bucs, the Thursday teams, or the teams off this week.

This does also not include the 13 safeties either of the guys on IR.

  25. Sparky Says:

I feel like every week Joe tries to read something into BA’s vague injury updates, and every week he’s wrong.

  26. Stpetematt Says:

Why are there adds for “Let’s go Brandon”-wear on the sides of this page? That’s asinine!

  27. Stpetematt Says:

Why are there ads for “Let’s Go Brandon”-wear on the sides of this page? That’s asinine!

  28. Defense Rules Says:

Losing Dean will be huge, especially if Davis can’t make it back for several weeks. SMB is not a true outside corner (much better at Nickel), and yet Bowles is having to play him out there.

  29. Buffalo54 Says:

Our Defense is Awesome! Thanks for pushing through offense, what a great ending, way to go Lenny,

  30. Tony Says:

They need to either sign a CB in FA next year & draft one next year or just draft probably two next year. Probably draft two CBs one S one maybe two OL one DE one DT.

  31. Dean Giusti Says:

I’m sick and disgusted with these injuries. These guys are dropping like flies.

  32. JimBuc2 Says:

What? Did ownership get on the wrong side of Zeus? Seems that way. I think the Roman God may have worn himself out from flinging so many injury bolts on our Bucs. Perhaps a blood sacrifice would appease. I nominate the team trainer, a female I believe. At the very least she should be keelhauled. Clearly her program is not working.
    LFG Bucs
    Let’s Go Brandon

  33. Tony Says:

They could just Ronald go & then resign Fournette Bernard & they just drafted Vaughn. So there wouldn’t be any room for him anyway. They still have to resign Brady Gronkowski Antonio Bernard Fournette JPP & depending on what Suh does. They could probably let OJ go also & keep Brate with Gronkowski & bring somebody up.

  34. Ash Says:

Smb looked terrible this is troubling even if Davis comes back

  35. Thomas Edrington Says:

Dean joins Chris Chandler, aka Crystal Chandelier in the “really fragile” department…..needs to be careful at home, he’ll stub his toe in the dark and he’ll be out for 2022

  36. Joe Says:

Why are there ads for “Let’s Go Brandon”-wear on the sides of this page? That’s asinine!

Dunno. National ads generally appear based on one’s viewing habits. Joe once received a screenshot from a guy that displayed an ad for “Persian Women.” Wonder what/where he surfs during private moments? 🙂

  37. Listnfrmafar Says:

It will be interesting to see if Ryan can pick this secondary apart. Fortunately Atl D is not very good, need 40 or more.

  38. Leon Says:

The Trask pick is coming back to haunt us. I understood the pick at the time, but hindsight being 20/20, we probably should’ve added another CB

  39. Brandon Says:

People blaming SMB for the deep post when the D was in cover 1 or 3 truly don’t understand football. Winfield was supposed to be there in deep middle for support but he bit underneath. If you wanna praise him for the nice INT that is fine but the long TD was mostly on him.

  40. Listnfrmafar Says:

Brandon, 100% correct, I posted the same thing in the open thread after it happened. Winfield got caught looking for the run wanting g the big hit. He was the safety help on that play and he to say the least didn’t help. Yes he.made up for it big time later in the game, what a catch.

  41. Tony Says:

If the right CB isn’t there for them 1st round next year then I’d go OL DE or DT then go CB 2nd round. Only CBs I’d consider taking 1st round would be Stingley Gardner & McDuffie but Stingley will be gone by the time they’re picking.

  42. Anonymous Says:

The 60 yard td on Shawn was wind field jrs fault.

  43. TampabayDJ82 Says:

GEEZ !! MOST of you have nothing better to do then FIND SOMETHING ELSE TO COMPLAIN ABOUT with the Bucs !!?? First of all , Dean has been playing his butt off as the ONLY real CB they had not injured !! And the tackle he made was a MONSTER hit with his shoulder !! Love it when MOST of you think you are some EX NFL COACH or even some expert from bspn “as Joe would say ” .. The Bucs just probably one of the hardest games of the season , as the Colts were coming in red hot , but you still have to find something to pick at ?? Fake Buc fans !! Go root for another team PLEASE !! GO BUCS

  44. TampabayDJ82 Says:

Tony – Are you REALLY talking about the DRAFT ?? WOW !! And who made you Mel Kipper ?? Now I’ve heard it all , right in the middle of a 8-3 record , and in great position for one of the top 3 seeds and we have a guy talking about who HE thinks the Bucs should draft , IN THE LAST WEEK OF APRIL !!???

  45. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

DJ82 please put your phone away so you don’t post anymore. Who are you to tell us we’re not “true” fans because we complain and find fault??? Maybe you’re just a pushover who don’t see things that are right in front of your face but we aren’t blind, we see what’s wrong and we’re going to complain as well as celebrate our Bucs winning because this is America Jack the freedom to complain is a civil fight, especially for true Buc fans because we’ve gone thru a lot so maybe you ain’t one. You must be a noob. Man you guys are as irritating as Realist and that ATM jock holder, so glad can’t remember his name. Don’t worry lil homie you’ll fade away like a Kobe jumper
