Is Tom Brady Beginning To Crack?

November 19th, 2021

Still has it.

Over at BSPN, a stat nerd is trying to figure out who will win each division.

Two weeks ago, follicly-challenged Billy Barnwell of BSPN said he was ready to hand the Bucs the NFC South cronw. Then Trevor Siemian happened. Then Taylor Heinicke happened. Now, Barnwell is wondering if Daniel Jones will happen Monday night.

Barnwell doesn’t believe the pirate ship is sinking but he said it is beginning to show signs of listing by letting garbage quarterbacks have their way.

And while Tom Brady has not played his best the past two weeks, Barnwell types that Brady shows signs he still is an elite signal-caller.

One of the interceptions was a spectacular bit of bad luck, with a ball being popped out of his receiver’s hands and caught by a diving Washington defender, and another was simply a great play by a Saints player. The other two were bad decisions by Brady, and while I’m prepared to believe that he could physically slow down at some point in his 40s, he hasn’t suddenly forgotten how to read defenses. I also don’t think the league has suddenly figured out how to defend the Bucs. Nobody is better at taking what the defense gives them than Brady, and his expected completion percentage over the past two weeks is a ridiculous 74.7%, so the opportunities are out there. I don’t think it’ll be an issue in the weeks to come.

Barnwell did type that if anything, it won’t be Brady’s fault if the Bucs see their season collapse. It will be because of all the injuries.

And then there’s the black cloud hanging over furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing Bucs receiver Antonio Brown and his alleged fake V-card controversy. The Bucs are 5-0 with him, 1-3 without him.

If NFL strongman Roger Goodell suspends Brown, that could be a final nail in any Super Bowl dreams.

    Yes, says Pete.

AB is good, but no way he’s the make it or break it cog in the Bucs machine. We haven’t yet seen Periman take a snap yet and at some point Scotty and Gronk will be back. Yes AB improves the Bucs, but his absence will not prevent them from going to the SB.

  3. Lesco_Brandon Says:

Brady can only throw the ball and CANNOT catch it at the same time. As far as I know, Brady does not play on the defense. His teammates need to match his intensity. Coaches need to be creative in their playmaking calls. There is only so much a one guy can do.

  4. Medicated Pete Says:

Tom has checked-out until he gets his guys back. Gronk, AB, Scooter. He doesn’t trust the current “”#1″” WR to run proper routes #LowFootballIQ

  5. Lesco_Brandon Says:

well, the so-called #1 WR cannot even get open. I have not seen that #1 guy really got wide open unlike other #1 star WR from other teams.

Maybe Goodell does a make good to TB12 for the over punishment of 4 game suspension for deflated balls. Oh wait, Brady did win the SB that year and Goodell got booed off the stage. AB is toast. Buc team and coaches are hearing all this negative banter, if they aren’t up and play to their potential Monday then they may win the NFC South but 1 and done in playoffs. If they let Cam Newton and Carolina win the NFC South, Bucs will be dead to me.

  7. zzbuc Says:

Well, as far I can remember this so called experts said something pretty similar…..We all know the ending……I can understand that the journalism is a job…that the nfl is a big business….But stupidity hurts my years……specially from ESPN and NFL Networks!!!

  8. Dew Says:

Perriman ran a 4.19 at his combine. He has the tools to replace AB.

  9. Armybucfan Says:

Some of Brady’s passes have looked errant at times giving me flashbacks of the whole Jameis Winston era. Throwing the ball way behind the receiver, or so low that it would be a miracle catch for the receiver or more recently right to the defender (Jameis flashback). I don’t Think AB has that much impact but the way Brady is throwing and only doing check downs concerns me.

  10. Craig Says:

Brady loves the bright lights of a nationally televised game. He will do all he can to uphold the legend that he is.

Beyond that it is up to Leftwich to get receivers under those passes. He needs to toss a couple of our fast receivers in early and blow the top off of the Giants defense.

That means that Grayson and Perriman need to drag DBs after them and put our tight ends against linebackers to move the chains.

Leftwich has to open it up , because there will be almost no support from our defense. It needs to be a shoot-out; we need to trust that Brady can out shoot Jones.

  11. PassingThru Says:

Cyril Grayson is faster than AB. He hasn’t quite replaced him.

  12. Marine Buc Says:

Tom Brady can’t do everything by himself… Currently – our defense sucks, our running game sucks, our tackling sucks, our special teams are below average and we have had a ton of injuries on this team.

We need to get players healthy and nearly every facet of this team needs to improve pronto or the rest of our games will look like the Redskins arse whopping we just saw last Sunday.

  13. Tamlpabaybucfan Says:

Tom needs Gronk far more than he needs AB……but he does need one of them…..

  14. Orlandobucsfan#1 Says:

The whole team is playing like crap.

  15. Listnfrmafar Says:

Brady can probably win without AB if Gronk is back but to compare him to Perriman & Grayson? Please AB is the WR on the team. As far as opening it up, lowest % pass is the burst, bomb, hot route, whatever you want to call it, low % and takes NO time off the clock if incomplete.

  16. Francisco Guzman Says:

Lol at people who think the bucs won’t turn this around. Also AB is not gonna be suspended. This team is gonna win their division and they will be healthy come January.

Perriman ran a 4.19 at his combine. He has the tools to replace AB.

    ………….

No! Some scout says he tracked him at 4.19.
He ran 4.26 at his pro day and he ran a 4.52 at the combine.
Stats are all over the place.
Fastest 40 at the combine was John Ross at 4.22

  18. Tamlpabaybucfan Says:

More than speed necessary to replace AB…..but at least Perriman knows the offense…..

  19. Swampbuc Says:

The Bucs as a whole have cracked, it’s obvious . Slow, lackluster effort, dropped balls, missed blocks, missed tackles. Leads me to believe it’s on the coaches also for lousy practices.

But, 8-9 may still be good enough to win the division so getting annihilated in the first round of the playoffs is still possible. One can hope.

  20. captivajim Says:

grayson has the speed..i’d work him into the scheme..he’s hungry, eager to prove

  21. Allbuccedup Says:

If Evans, Godwin and Gronk are healthy AB is just an afterthought.

  22. orlbucfan Says:

Brady needs to lay off the pick 6 gifts. He looks his age.

  23. steele Says:

A few weeks ago, TB looked fine. In fact, better arm strength on long throws.
These past couple of bad ones…who knows. It’s always a combination. Communication, WRs and the routes, Brady hurt (all it takes is a bit to throw timing off), defense.
