Feeling “Chipper”

November 9th, 2021

Washington DE Chase Young

The Bucs are off to take their next victim, which appears to be a team circling the drain and possibly taking its head coach down with them.

When the Bucs-Washington game kicks off at 1 p.m. on Sunday, the good guys will be facing a 2-6 team that plays the second-worst team in the NFC. (Yeah, the NFC North is that bad.)

Bucs fans remember well what happened the last time Tampa Bay headed to play Washington. Defensive end Chase Young ran his mouth about upsetting the Bucs in the playoffs and Donovan Smith shut him down all night.

Young never touched Tom Brady and the Bucs’ offense rolled what many considered the NFL’s best defense in the 31-23 win.

This year, the 29th-ranked Washington defense has fallen apart with Young (1 1/2 sacks) looking more like Stylez White than a Pro Bowl talent.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera was asked about Young’s need for improvement yesterday, and Rivera said he wants Young “to pay a little bit more attention on the chipper.” Rivera said Young wasn’t used to being chipped by running backs and now he has to learn to run through them.

Rivera added that Young needs a lot more patience and has regressed overall as a rusher this season because he’s ducking inside too quickly and too often.

This made Joe laugh. Loudmouth Young is proving to be overrated. Bucs sacks king Shaq Barrett found the NFL’s attention (and chipping running backs and tight ends) about midway through the 2019 season and found ways to succeed through the adjustment.

Joe is curious to watch how the Bucs deal with Young on Sunday, specifically if they choose to chip him often.

I would not call Washington beaten just yet. Just look at this past Sundays results to team who thought..they were all of that. They will be rested just like us. Relax iand cruise if you want to, Wahington will be ready.

Agree with MJ. Don’t get too confident.

Wait a minute ..this blog was all about the Bucs drafting Chase Young when he came out
Wait a minute, the Bucs had the No. 14 overall pick and never had a shot at Chase Young. –Joe

  5. Salty Says:

Don’t get the hype around Chase Young as he only has 9 sacks in 23 games. Sorry but as a DE those numbers are average at best.

  6. Architek Says:

We need a real stud at corner for the future – Dean, SMB and others are good but Davis is a really good to above avg corner but the others are solid but not studs.

  7. Listnfrmafar Says:

Dude was chipped by Gronk last season, not exactly a RB.

BucsfaninTX….never had a chance Sir…maybe you dreamed about it

  9. Pine Hills Says:

We’ll prob go BPA in the draft.
A replacement for Suh or a solid corner would be best. We’re picking 32nd again.

“with Young (1 1/2 sacks) looking more like Stylez White than a Pro Bowl talent.”

Greg White (later changed his name to Stylez) had 8 sacks and 7 forced fumbles in his first full year with the Bucs (’07) – and that was coming off the bench all year because they had to give starts and snaps to top 5 draft pick Gaines Adams (RIP)…..

Stylez White had 24 sacks in 4 years as a Buccaneer (mostly all coming off the bench) and was probably our most productive pass rusher during that time….

Just sayin Joe – If Young had stats like Stylez this year – then everyone would think he was doing fine…. LOL

  11. Kentucky Buc Says:

Young was the sqeaky wheel that got the grease last year. Media hype.

  12. Bucsfanman Says:

Waaaay overrated! All mouth, no production.
Hopefully the Bucs will chip this guy into oblivion on Sunday.

  13. The Beer Whisperer Says:

What’s funny is, the WTF fans being so down on “Mr. half a sack” this year.
At times, they have #benchChase hashtags (I think the are called) going up there, lol

Those old Redskins Fans, are wanting to clean house. No one being spared.

This blog should be called “Joe Gibberish “…
The good guys will be facing a 2-6 team that plays the second worst team in the NFC?
(Yeah the NFC North is that bad)? WTF???
    AND I DON’T MEAN WASHINGTON FOOTBALL TEAM🙄

  15. Buczilla Says:

The (mostly) idiot media in the northeast seriously overrated this dude last year. Guy gets a massive seven and a half sacks and all of a sudden he’s the next Reggie White. Great team to have a bounce back against, but it’s going to be a shootout since our defense is lousy.

I think Joe thinks Washington is playing themselves this weekend.
