Cam Newton Returns To The Panthers

November 11th, 2021

Two games against the Bucs?

[UPDATE: 12:19 p.m.] An old foe is returning for two dates with the Bucs.

Blame the weak NFC and the expanded playoff format.

Word broke this morning from the Charlotte Observer newspaper that the Panthers plan to have talks with Cam Newton about returning to the franchise he led for nine years.

It seems Carolina isn’t too keen on chasing a playoff berth with P.J. Walker at quarterback while Sam Darnold’s shoulder recovers. And considering Darnold has 7 touchdown throws and 11 interceptions this season with a good receiving corps, Joe suspects the Panthers have little interest in him either.

The Panthers (4-5) now sit one-half game behind Atlanta (4-4) for the seventh and final playoff spot in the NFC. They also beat the Saints (5-3), so they have tiebreaker hopes there.

Joe hopes Carolina passes on Newton. Why? Because he’s a dangerous player who will be doing all he can to earn a massive free agent contract for 2022.

Newton has been on the street since the Belicheats cut him following the preseason. He played rather well in New England last season until he got The Sickness.

The Bucs face the Panthers in Weeks 16 and 18.

[UPDATE: 12:19 p.m.]Newton signed with the Stinking Panthers today.

Another good player that is on the street because of his ego. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a good player and it’s not a crime to wear flashy clothes. But I remember a time when he was more focused on football than his wardrobe. He WAS the model citizen and future of the Panthers.

I wish him well, always thought he was a baller.

  2. Jerry Says:

We will have to play him twice over a 3 week span.
Hope the division is wrapped up by then.

  3. zzbuc Says:

@Robert, with all due respect….Used to be a good player some years ago………ego + injuries destroyed this guy…..

  4. PassingThru Says:

Cam harbors shoulder damage, which is why he couldn’t throw the ball worth a damn last season with the Patriots. I think there’s still football left in Cam, I just think he should change positions to TE or FB.

  5. sasquatch Says:

Cam is an embarrassment to the NFL. The Duke of Douche.

  6. Bobby M. Says:

He’s not good….he’s washed up, physically and mentally. I think he still likes the fame and certainly the checks but his days of grinding are done. At the QB position, particularly starting QB, you have to be the hardest working. He was getting schooled by Mac Jones on a playbook he had more then a year of experience in. That tells you everything.

  7. adam from ny Says:

panthers went from 3-0 to 3 and 4 and nothing…

they are the worst team in the division right now – because atlanta is actually hot hot hot…

the falcons are quietly getting their sh!t together…

let’s see what they do against the cowboys this weekend…

and i tell ya, that pj walker guy is lucky to be in the league at all…he’s a toronto argonaut in my book…with all due respect he’s really not an nfl player but remains a panther for more than a minute…

almost as strange as ryan griffin slowly becoming a 10 year back up for the bucs without throwing a pass haha

  8. adam from ny Says:

    typo:

panthers went from 3-0 to 4 and nothing

The NFC is not weak. By saying that you’re saying the AFC is stronger. The truth is they are pretty comparable at best as a whole (just in different areas). In fact, the top 6-7 teams in NFC are stronger than the top 6-7 teams in the AFC. The bottom half of the NFC conference, minus the Lions (but the AFC has the Texans too) are a little better than the AFC. The AFC is probably stronger than the NFC for the middle pack/group of teams. But there’s only 2 conferences to compare and the NFC is no weaker than the AFC as a whole. Also, where it matters most, the projected Playoff teams. I take the NFC teams over the AFC teams as a whole all day. Arizona, Rams, Bucs, Cowboys, Saints, Packers are better than the AFC’s too 6. Seahawks are a much better team w/ Russell Wilson at the helm too and almost beat the Saints w/o him. Heck the AFC’s top team lost to the Jets of all teams. Bills (losing to the Jags) and Chiefs both reeling. Bengals as well. Browns and Steelers lucky to be where they are. Chargers haven’t really impressed as much as expected. Colts losing record. Raiders in disarray. Broncos are not a 5-4 team, nor do they scare you. Ravens have been extremely lucky to win most of their games by 4th quarter comebacks and heroics and should’ve lost to one of the NFC’s 3-5 teams, etc. etc. Plenty more proof of this being the case too.

Cam is an embarrassment to the NFL. The Duke of Douche.
    ___________

    I find this very offensive.

  12. Mike Johnson Says:

Cam can play. He got a couple mental problems though…Who know, Going back to his old stomping ground might rejuvenate him somewhat. I would not count him out just yet.

  13. BucsfaninTX Says:

He’s not the runner or passer that he once was….no worries

  14. cmurda Says:

The NFC isn’t weak. Not even close to weak. Far superior to the AFC. The playoff format has nothing to do with Cam going to the P-Cats either. Cone on Joe. Put the pipe down and let reality soak in. It’s got everything to do with Darnold’s injury and Carolina’s desperation for a QB. Darnold was trash even before the injury. Anybody behind center, even PJ, is an upgrade for them. Maybe not Cam though. That guy looks like the second coming of Kaepernick strictly from a skills and athleticism erosion perspective.

  15. D-Rome Says:

I hate that he’s back with the Panthers but quite frankly it’s smart of the Panthers to sign him. He’s an instant upgrade.

  16. DoooshLaRue Says:

    He fruity.

  17. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Cleanhouse

Prince had more style in his little finger than that drag Queen has in his entire wardrobe..

  18. captiva jim Says:

bucs secondary will have 2 good games……….

  19. Mike C Says:

    Haha Doosh!

  20. Bradinator Says:

Not good. I knew Darnold going down was bad news. Even his back up had to be better. Newton can do some damage, and he has to us in the past. I’d rather he ended up in Houston, etc.

  21. Jerry Says:

What REALLY sucks is if Carolina sneaks in, we could potentially have to play them 3 times is 4 weeks depending on the seeding.

  22. Boise Bucs Fan Says:

Surprised no one linked him to the Bucs

  23. Tnoles Says:

This guy is washed up trash. Anyone who is concerned about him going to the Panthers needs to relax. The dude got cut in preseason. Cam is no threat to us so chill. I suspect we put an end to his season with the pounding he’ll get cause all he will do is try to run. Welcome back Cam can’t wait to see you lol

  24. The Beer Whisperer Says:

It’s all good. Cam wants to play football too.

It appears to me, the best part of the Panthers has been their defense.
But the Patriots just dealt with them. Probably a good template to follow, lol

  25. The Beer Whisperer Says:

I’m willing to play football too. If any team is looking for a, practice squad arm-chair QB.

  26. MadMax Says:

    LOL

  27. Listnfrmafar Says:

Hahaha hahaha, he STINKS. The NFC is much stronger than AFC? Name one AFC team that can beat Rams, Bucs, GB & maybe AZ in SB?

  28. Howard Cosell Says:

Howard isn’t sure if Cam has transitioned yet, but just in case Howard would like to know Cams pronouns, so as not to offend anyone.

  29. Jbeachbuc Says:

Good for Cam “ not my laptop “ Newton.

  30. NeverGIVEup Says:

I respect him now because he stand against the JAB. Just like A Rod

  31. ModHairKen Says:

Good grief. He’s a washed up hack. He played crappy last year. He’s afraid to take a hit, which is not really a knock because most of us would vomit after half the big hits he took and got up from. But the point is he is about as much of a threat as John Elway would be if he came back.

  32. SoberInYbor Says:

So this he and Russel Westbrook are fashionistas. Ok ok now every generation says it but wtf happens? Is the new cool to be as feminine as possible. What warped minds think their outfits are awesome. They look as stupid as can be. Can you believe they pay people to dress em like that. You can go to Walmart and find a better outfit. For cam girl peacock pixie dust. I

  33. Windshearalert Says:

Well, at least they can see what purse he decides to wear for Post-Game interviews ….

  34. Buc king Says:

    Cam is sus

  35. Allbuccedup Says:

It doesn’t matter who the Panthers put under center a healed and healthy Bucs “D” with plummet the fool!

  36. stpetebucsfan Says:

In his heyday I thought Cam was a terrific player. But he played a very physical style, fun to watch and effective but not good on his body.

I’m not sure how much he has left in the tank.
