Vita Vea Is Still Itching

October 11th, 2021

Beast.

No, Vita Vea doesn’t need shots of Dupixent because he’s developed eczema. But he’s still itching for more sacks.

Speaking this morning via Zoom, Vea thought it was cool he got a half-sack yesterday, shared with Shaq Barrett. But it is not enough said the beastly Bucs defensive tackle.

“It still didn’t satisfy my itch for a full sack,” Vea joked.

It has been clear through the first five games that Vea is ragdolling offensive linemen. So much so it is freeing up other linemen to get sacks and allow linebackers to roam free without getting blocked.

Vea was asked if the NFL should hatch a new sack called “assists,” like in basketball or hockey the way he is setting up teammates to get sacks or tackles.

“I think that is just our job as teammates to help each other out and make plays and not be selfish,” Vea said. “I just enjoy playing football.”

Vea also said the defense cannot focus less on stopping the run and more on the pass just because teams are giving up trying to run.

“That is one thing you can’t neglect in your game plan,” Vea said.

If the Bucs can figure out this pass defense, and Joe has confidence Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles eventually will, this defense has a good chance of being a lockdown outfit.

    They have medications for itches.

Brisett is a tough dude. Wasn’t sure he’d be getting up after Vea levelled him. Was like a bull dozer

  3. Mike Says:

They need to put Vea outside at DE a couple more times and let him bull rush the tackle.

Wait until VV and JTS get on the same page. Wowsers! Him breaking his leg was a major blow to the D last season. Glad it healed in time for the NFC Championship game. He is a MAJOR presence on that line. Added plus: he’s young. 😊

IMO nobody makes his job better pn the entire defensive sistem than Vita Vea, that doesn´t mean I don´t value other players , because I really do….LVD JPP Shaq Gholston White etc……But nothing like this beast!!!! I really admire everything about his game…..

It’s a passing league and our game plan is to be a historic run defense playing with backups and guys signed off the street in the secondary. I’m just thankful this hasn’t bit us in the rear, yet.

Leighroy- We’ve been fortunate not to have been too lit up, at least not enough to lose the game. However, we are making teams one-dimensional. That’s an advantage, even in a so-called “passing league”.
If and when our secondary heals up, we’ll have a bigger advantage.
The running game is important. Don’t be lulled into thinking it’s not. What TB needs to do is start scheming different looks, trick QBs into throwing into coverage.

Very is held on 85% of plays I watch him on defense….also Shaq gets held a good bit too… the refs have been the worst I’ve seen them in years they really have ruined the game of football. They love calling false starts tho on us and encroachment…get every ticky tack call in coverage…the list goes on I feel like we are the most penalized team in the NFL. I think a investigation needs to be made into the zebras and no joke is intended here…I’m dead serious we need to be sending footage to the NFL and local pen and mic clubs to expose then online holding is. It’s crippling are defense….hold us long enough to torch are beat up secondary. Any qb in nfl can a decent pass with enough time to diagnose the play, set and release.

  9. BradyBucs Says:

Bowles isn’t going to “figure out the Pass Defense” because we have a PERSONNEL problem. Even before the injuries, our Secondary just isn’t that good. No scheme is going to be able to hide the cover liability of our secondary. That’s just a fact. That only thing that masks their poor play is when our pass rush dominates, like in the playoffs against beat-up O-Lines.

  10. Buccos Says:

The best thing about being the best run defense is the time of possession. It keeps the defense fresh. It wears out the other teams defense. We are winning in the trenches. That is where the game is won. We are more physical up front and eventually the other team submits to our will. It’s like getting your @ss kicked in a fight.

Between Bowles scheming and people getting healthy… I see them getting better and better and hopefully peaking at the end of the year

Buc King – I’m glad I’m not the only one who has seen it, SINCE WEEK 1 !! They are holding our Dline on ALMOST EVERY PLAY !! AND IT SURE SEEMS LIKE THE REF’S JUST DON’T CARE CUZ THEY MUST SEE IT IF WE DO !! SAME GOES FOR THE STUPID PASS INTERFERENCE CALL’S AGAINST THE BUCS . IT’S BEEN ONE SIDED ALL YEAR !!

  13. TampabayDJ82 Says:

LEIGHROY – IF YOU WERE TO LISTEN TO THE RICHARD SHERMAN INTERVIEW , YOU WOULD HAVE HEARD THAT “EVERY” PLAYER IN FOOTBALL , OUTSIDE OF QB , ARE NOT THAT FAR APART IN TERMS OF SKILL . THEY ARE ALL PROFESSIONAL FOOTBALL PLAYERS AND SOME DON’T EVEN GET A CHANCE TO SHOW THEIR TALENT !! TODD BOWELS SAYS THE SAME THING AS DO MANY PLAYERS AND COACHES.. THAT BEING SAID , I DO AGREE THAT THE BUCS SHOULD EXPLORE THE TRADE MARKET FOR ANOTHER C.B. AS THE BUCS HAVE BEEN DEVASTATED BY INJURY. ….. GO BUCS !!

    DAVID- AGREE 💯
