Todd Bowles: It’s The Saints, Not Jameis Winston

October 28th, 2021

Bucs DC Todd Bowles.

Joe fully understands why the focus of the Bucs-Saints game is one guy.

That would be Mr. Entertainment, America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston. After all, it was Jameis who was a first-overall pick of the Bucs. And at times Jameis looked like the real deal.

The team decided to move on last year and the decision to flip to Tom Brady paid off big time with a Super Bowl victory — only a fool or a closet slimy Saints fan would suggest otherwise.

However, Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles, rightly, seemed to begin getting frustrated with questions about the former Bucs’ franchise signal-caller today.

Bowles said in so many words, he’s preparing for the Saints, not Jameis.

“It’s a different scheme, so you really can’t compare him because it is a different scheme overall,” Bowles said when asked if his defense going against Jameis daily in practice for a year will help Sunday. “I think they are doing a good job with him and I think he’s doing a good job running the team.”

Shortly thereafter, Bowles reminded the local pen and mic club of who the Bucs were playing and Jameis is just one cot (albeit big) in the slimy Saints’ offense.

“The biggest thing for us, we’re not just playing Jameis,” Bowles said. “They’ve got 10 other guys that play damn good football over there that we have to prepare for. So if you just prepare for one guy, you are going to lose right off the top.”

And if that didn’t get the point across, Bowles added another element that pretty much quashed any other Jameis questions.

“We have to get ready for the Saints,” Bowles added. “Jameis is just a sidebar for the people that have been here [when Jameis was here] and everything else.

“He’s a great guy. I love him off the field. But we have to get ready for the Saints, not just Jameis.”

For example, a big focus of Bowles’ defense will be trying to contain four-time Saints All-Pro running back Alvin Kamara.

“I don’t know if anyone matches up well with Kamara,” Bowles said. “It’s a team effort. We’ve slowed him down. I don’t know if we necessarily stopped him completely.”

Bowles added that Karama is at least a top-three NFL back and seemed to suggest putting a spy on Kamara won’t get the job done on him.

The Saints defense is their strength… I think the Bucs are far to loaded fr the Saints to cover every weapon so Brady should carve then up…

The Saints offense is just Kamara/Ingram… Shut down the run game, scheme mainly for screen passes and they are whipped… Seahawks did it with a bad defense SO the Bucs should do much better!

    cot?

I really wish we could have a health AB this game.

Before the Seattle game Winston was the main reason they were scoring points. They lost the Giants game because they relied to much on Kamara and Taysom trying to run the clock out after Winston hit 12 passes in a row. Sean learned that lesson and kept the ball in Winston’s hand the following week in the 4th and he scored to ice the game.

Joe having a field day with Jameis this week……moniker mania…..

Need a fast start to this game. Slow starts don’t help you on the road. We saw that against the rams.

  7. D-Rome Says:

    Jameis is just a sidebar

Truer words have never been spoken for Mr. Irrelevant, North Korea’s Quarterback, sidebar Jameis Winston.

What Todd Bowles wanted to say, but didn’t, because he’s a professional :
    *We’re gonna beat the Saints*

  9. The Beer Whisperer Says:

This ain’t the Bucs first rodeo.
    They watch film.
    They know the Saints tendencies.
The Bucs are a better football team.

    What’s not to like?

  10. Lamarcus Says:

Yea see if Devin White does what he was drafted for (Stopping Kamara, McCaffrey and any other Rb) we won’t be too concerned about the team effort. Our dbs don’t have the size or speed for him. Hopefully David can play. Idk

@An erection for sacks…that’s a loaded user name. Good one?

  12. David Says:

Hey I don’t believe him for one minute that they won’t have a spy on Alvin.
I think most of the game LVD (if 100% healthy), Whitehead, White, or a combination of them on various plays will be spying him all night

    Who Dat ⚜️⚜️⚜️⚜️

  14. Little Strick Says:

This is going to be a game of defense, less penalties, and who controls the turnovers. If we can force turnovers and play like we did against the bears with only 1 penalty the defense will win there battle against the Saints offensive line. Goooo Bucs!

  15. Jerry Strickland Says:

This is going to be a good game. Ever who has the less penalties and can cause the most turnover will control the game.
