The Work Ethic Tom Brady Has Instilled

October 5th, 2021

Bucs QB Tom Brady.

Joe could probably write all day on the impact Tom Brady has had on the Bucs franchise.

Of course the obvious example is him wearing a Bucs Super Bowl T-shirt holding the Vince Lombardi Trophy on a temporary stage at the Stadium on Dale Mabry Highway.

But there are so many little things behind the scenes that Brady has changed.

And while not trying to expose them, some were revealed by by almond milk-sipping, hot-dog-eating-contest-protesting, mock-draft-scowlingL.L.-Bean-wearingtennis fans’ advocate, Second Amendment abolitionistMike-Florio-arguingparrot-insensitivechewing-with-his-mouth-opensoup-gulpingCalifornia-train-romancinganti-football proliferationouthouse-admiringairline-nappingsteerage-flyingYogi Berra-worshipingurinal-picture-takingvideo-game-playingTaylor-Swift-listeningpickpocket-thwartingBucs-uniform-frowningAllie-LaForce-smittenBig-Ten-Network-hatingpedestrian-bumpingolive oil-lappingpopcorn-munchingcoffee-slurpingfried-chicken-eatingoatmeal-lovingcircle-jerking, craft-beer-chugging, cricket-watchingscone-loathingcollege football-naïvebaseball-box-score-readingNPR-honkfilthy-hotel-stayingfight-instigatingbarista-trainingBudweiser-tolerantbaseball-scorecard-keeping, pasta-feasting, vomit-dodging scrooge, Kay-Adams-following, Coors-Light-souring, pineapple-upside-down-cake-eating social activist and NFL insider Peter King of NBC Sports in his Monday morning column.

Brady walked into work Tuesday morning in Tampa and told quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen, “You know, this is the first time I’ve ever really studied New England—studied them like an opponent. I can see now it’s gonna be an unbelievable challenge to try to figure them out.” So Brady, backup quarterbacks Blaine Gabbert and Ryan Griffin and veteran Christensen spent the week mining old Patriots game footage going back to 2013, to try to divine clues into how Belichick would play Brady. The mission struck gold on Thursday when Brady got the video guys in Tampa to unearth a New England-Minnesota game in 2018—but more about that later. Point was, Brady over-prepared for this game because he knew his rival for the week, Belichick, would be doing the same 1,325 miles to the north.

Tuesdays are traditionally days off for players. That doesn’t mean players all stay away.

Some come in to work out or have trainers work on them. Rarely do quarterbacks not named “Josh Freeman” not show up on Tuesdays for no other reason than to watch tape and help forumulate a gameplan.

But here it is not just Brady (duh!), but backup Blaine Gabbert and practice squad guy Ryan Griffin in One Buc Palace on a Tuesday, mining hours and hours of Belicheat video to try to help Brady find an edge or the answer to a puzzle. (Joe hopes Kyle Trask was watching!)

Joe isn’t sure he’s ever heard of a practice squad quarterback showing up on a Tuesday to help the starter research film. Maybe not even the backup.

That’s both wild to Joe and an example of how Brady influences so many at One Buc Palace.

I think you can be over-prepared for things……I do that with my yard work sometimes……so much that I eventually had to hire it out.

Steve Belichick looks like the true mastermind in that family. I wanna see Britt Reid vs Steve Belichick in the bare knuckle ring

  3. Cannon Says:

I could see a backup QB absolutely wanting to have that experience of reviewing game film of Brady… with Brady. Its kind of a once in a lifetime thing.

He has done an incredible job demanding the best out of every player. Amazing, really.

Success comes to those who put the time in to strive for excellence.

Success comes to those who do the preparation – that’s what separates them from the Freemans…success doesn’t happen without the endless – relentless hours ahead the game.

LOL, Steve Belichick has a video of his facial expressions during the game that has gone Viral!

    Where was BA & BL?

  9. Fefe Says:

Worries me that Kyle Trask is not mentioned at all with all the other quarterbacks studying ?

I hope it’s an approach that can outlast Brady’s tenure. Guys like Wirfs, Winfield & Devin White will be in the next wave of leadership for the team. It would be great if Brady’s example gets followed.

At least Steve Belichick got rid of the mullet. It just screamed “Daddy got me this job but I still use food stamps”.

I would hate it if my OC and HC only spent their whole week mining old game film. There is lots more to do on coordinating the offense and whole team then just mining the film.

It does put in perspective that the OC and HC are the ones putting in the game plans and not Tom Brady.

We do also know more importantly that Brady is the best at mitigating risk of any quarterback ever so that time he and Christensen spent watching film made a difference Sunday night.

Brady still seems very happy playing for his first offensive coach ever, BA.

My guess is Trask is with the boys also. A very close family friend went to school with him, and said he’s 110 percent into it. He knows he’s been given a golden opportunity, and plans to take full advantage. He was never a big party guy at school was all about football, and the team. Don’t know why fans are so down on this good kid. There’s a rebuild coming. We’re going to need to replace a lot of aging vets, and one year deals. We’ll need every future pick to do that. Wouldn’t it be better using those high picks on impact players, and having our young QB already on the roster ready to go? Trask is like a savings bond. He’s going to be worth a lot more when it’s time to cash in even tho he’s just sitting in the bank now.

Some of that needs to rub off on the db’s hopefully Sherman brings that type of mentality

I really appreciate the dedication. I pay good money as a season ticket holder and to see this effort really fires me up. Regardless of the outcome of the game this makes me confident we have done all that we can to be successful. 🙂

    Trask should
    Move Into Tom’s garage

  18. buxszntkt Says:

@ TBBF, WTF, how can you be overprepared for your lawn ??? Were you cutting the grass with a comb and scissors ????

Video of Junior Belichick is awesome, there must be more from the 4 games.

Wasn’t he the reason BB become buddies with Schiano down at Rutgers.
