Stats Say Prepare For A Lot Of Alvin Kamara

October 29th, 2021

Saints RB Alvin Kamara.

Joe went back and listened to stat analysts talk Bucs-Saints. And very interesting nuggets were dropped.

On “The Ringer Gambling Podcast,” co-host and noted stathead/handicapper Warren Sharp shared a major tell that Alvin Kamara will be a main focus for the Saints: The Bucs rank No. 26 in the NFL in running back pass defense.

In recent weeks, Kamara was somewhat limited in the passing game production because, Sharp said, the slimy Saints were playing defenses rather good at defending running backs out out of the backfield.

Co-host Ben Solak noted that Kamara only once had fewer than six targets in a game against the Bucs and that came in the seal-clubbing the Saints laid in Tampa on “Sunday Night Football” last season.

“[The Saints] know what to do against this team,” Solak said. “They’ve seem them for a while. This is the approach they have laid out before.”

Solak said only Lavonte David seems to have success against Kamara in pass defense and if David cannot play, the Bucs are “just going to have to live with it” — with Kamara being a key passing target Sunday.

Joe does know Drew Brees targeted Kamama in the playoffs in the fourth quarter and Kamara was covered by Devin White. How’d that turn out?

Solak also believes the Saints are going to strictly focus on limiting the Bucs’ passing offense and take their chances that Playoff Lenny doesn’t bury them. Solak believes the Saints will use a defense similar to what the Bucs did to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, taking away targets for Brady and forcing him to dink and dunk.

As far as gambling on the game, Solak said he would stay away because he believes the game will be so close. The only angle he would lay cash on is a prop bet of Kamara on the over for pass receptions.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Leave LVD on Kamara all game…..and have Devin White all over Jameis,,,,,& I do think we can run on them…..

  3. Irishmist Says:

The Saints are playing on a short week, and Kamara really took a beating Monday night. I think that’s why they brought in Ingram.

  4. ClwJB Says:

They just don’t have the depth of talent to slug it out for 4 quarters – this is a typical current Bucs theme game – play close until 4th quarter, explode for 21 points and drop mic

  5. Swampbuc Says:

I expect the Saints to come out ahead. It’s one pf those games and it’s a super defense. best the Bucs have faced this year.

  6. Anonymous Says:

Sounds like that will be their plan…..if so we cannot allow SUPER K to punish our D/Line, our D/Line must punish him, we must wear him down …no plays off! I think we win!!

I seem to remember Devin White making a lot of tackles against Kamara as well…

On that playoff INT though, we all need to be honest… He got lucky that Kamara and Brees were not on the same page.
