Emotional Matchup

October 27th, 2021

The rivalry continues

The greatest Bucs receiver in history had six catches for 69 yards playing against the Saints and Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore last year.

That’s sounds solid until you find out the totals were over three games.

No corner seems to get in Evans’ head and personal space on the football field quite like Lattimore.

Sure, Evans has had a couple of huge days on his rival, but Lattimore has won the war since he entered the league in 2017.

Their feud picks up again on Sunday in New Orleans with Lattimore fresh off harassing D.K. Metcalf, the Seahawks’ half-man-half-robot receiver on Monday night. That was a wild matchup with Metcalf burning Lattimore early for an 84-yard touchdown but catching just one more short pass all night. For Metcalf, it was his fewest catches and targets of this season.

Lattimore has that effect on a lot of guys.

Joe thinks a special day for Lattimore on Sunday might be the Saints’ only hope of beating the Bucs.

If Lattimore gets eaten up by Evans and Bucs leading receiver Chris Godwin has his typical day, Tom Brady will be moving the chains enough to put too much pressure on the Saints’ impotent, 29th-ranked offense led by America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

Every game vs Saints put myself so nervous. What I am hoping is BUCS to go and sweep the cynical smile that Sean Payton has every time that he faces the BUCS. GO BUCS!!!!!

  2. Youngbucs Says:

He holds Mike all the time he also gets safety help all gm. The saints play two safeties back against everyone. Give him 1on 1 he’ll eat him alive!!!!

  3. Robert Says:

Time for ME to put his big boy pants on. Make sure someone checks his shoes are tied and he googles “hot route”.

We should be good then. I see Gronk, Howard and CG having big days. AB playing would be a nice surprise.

They should go deep early or whatever it takes to get up 14 so JW goes into hail mary mode. Heck we might want to line up ME as a CB…he’d get more receptions 🙂

  4. Medicated Pete Says:

He will take #13 out of the game mentally (which isn’t hard to do).

  5. ocala Says:

    Joe:

Perhaps the reason DK Metcalf did nothing after his TD catch was because his QB is terrible.

  6. August 1976 Buc Says:

DK was seriously punking Lattimore, just blasting him off the line of scrimmage. If I am MIke, I would do the same thing, because unlike Geno, Brady will drop dimes, and Mike will get his catches.
If anyone remembers opening day when the Bucs dropped 48 on the Saints with Fitzpatrick, Mike was killing Lattimore that day. So it is not like Mike has not done well against him.

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  7. R.O. Says:

Metcalf’s #’s vs Saint probably more a symptom of QB Smith than CB Lattimore.

  8. firethecannons Says:

They should just play Tyler Johnson and see how he fares, sit Evans to prevent injury since it is a lost cause. Either way–Bucs better get a gameplan for this a**hole in a hurry!

  9. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We will certainly miss AB in this game…..and I suspect ME13 will be covered…..so, it’s run the ball and hit Gronk, Godwin & Johnson instead.

  10. JimmyJack Says:

Sad but true but dont expect Mike to do much Sunday. Getting Gronk back would be big, especially without AB.

  11. Cannon Says:

#13 is going to eat #23’s lunch.

  12. Bucsfanman Says:

Lattimore’s one of the best at his position. Mike will have to muscle through and stay mentally tough.

  13. AJ Turnup Says:

I honestly feel like the numbers don’t tell the entire story… a lot of times Evans is doubled, the QB doesn’t look that way because there’s a better opening, and honestly the refs are pretty biased against Evans using his size and strength to his advantage. Lattimore is very good but I feel as if the refs let both men play Evans would get the best of him and Lattimore is a certified cry baby punk when he gets overmatched so I hope Brady looks Evans way when it’s 1 on 1 and allow Evans to dog him!

  14. PassingThru Says:

Set a pic play using Gronk, freeing up Evans, just to get him going.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

That’s a bullcrap stat. Evans had almost 60-yards in PI calls in just the 1st game.

  16. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Maybe Lattimore and his safety help takes Evans out of the game, but we still have other weapons, and we have Tom Brady who will find them.

  17. adam from ny Says:

listen man…brady is a tactician…he knows lattimore will potentially lock down mike…

so being the the goat, he will figure out how to spread the ball to the others…

could be a big gio or lenny day for out of the backfield receptions…

and godwin should have a multitude of grabs as well…

and yes darden can become the mystery man with an impressive stat sheet…

or tyler might have an 8 reception 100 yard day…

don’t sleep on this bucs offense…brady is not a rookie buccaneers anymore…

i still have the bucs winning say……..30-20

rattle winston early, never let him get settled in – just like they did to fields last week…and winston’s brain will become scrambled eggs vs the bucs

  18. Man Child Says:

I for one am ready to see some Jameis Winston terrible decision making like I watched for five years in Tampa.

  19. Crickett Baker Says:

Y@Man child..if ONLY the S(aint’s) can’t run against the Bucs, Winston may be attempting many crazy throws. Here’s hoping..I would like to see his arm running like Mahomes legs in the SB..:D
