Bucs Cornerback Woes Roll On

October 3rd, 2021

Carlton Davis was carted off tonight with a quad injury.

Richard Sherman often looked like he could have used a stretcher and an oxygen tank.

Veteran practice squad call-up Pierre Desir even played.

The Gravediggers have lost their shovels.

Davis, Murphy-Bunting (elbow) and Jamel Dean (knee) are now all hurt. That’s the Super Bowl cornerback trio.

Davis was injured on a wet Patriots’ home field playing on the Bucs’ punt return team. Per Bucco Bruce Arians, Davis is a top-10 NFL cornerback. So that leads Joe to ask, “What the hell is Davis doing on the field for that play? Hello?

Regardless, the Bucs are now truly decimated in their defensive backfield — in a passing league.

Nobody outside One Buc Palace really knows the extent of these injuries. But it’s getting damn scary.  We’re about four weeks from the NFL trade deadline.

  10. Bucs Orlando Says:

For being signed Wednesday Sherman is playing lights out.

He clearly needs more time , but majorly impressive for what he did tonight.

He blew a couple of coverages and was picked on, but pretty impressive overall.

  11. Wild Bill Says:

Well it was a missed field goal but hit the dam upright. Can’t get closer than that.

  23. Tampadeuce21 Says:

    Unreal

  24. Buxszntkt Says:

Let’s just hope this is Brady’s style. Often pats played sloppy through October, maybe we will still look like a Superbowl team down the road, right now not.

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

It is what it is. Only trade if it is a good trade, otherwise pull them off the streets. I’m sure there is someone out there that wants to make a comeback.

Sherman sucked, but at least he has and excuse. He’s also not in football shape.

    Time to make spaceand recruit.

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

We’re winning, and in the end that’s what matters. Ugly wins count. Get us to the playoffs, and turn it up ten notches.

  27. Oldtime Bucs Fan Says:

For just signing, Sherman did good. Thank God we signed him. Time to go out and trade for another corner, quickly.

  28. ECC Says:

Brady was trying to hard to show up his ex coach

  29. Pewter Power Says:

Karma for giving yourselves that idiotic name gravediggers.

  30. Nutterbuccer Says:

Was at the game. Sherman looked lost In the sauce, desir looked good, and no clue why DAVIS was on field for puny coverage especially with him being only CB on the roster. THATS BAD BAD COACHING

  31. Beeej Says:

All we have to trade are draft picks

  32. Highway Run Says:

The BUCS D did fine. The offense, specifically Tom Bradys’ accuracy, is the story of the night.

  33. Anglican Says:

The backfield still looks like crap. JL drafted every stinking one of them. Draft guru?

  34. Defense Rules Says:

Three things stood out to me last night. First, why did we throw 14 deep passes on a very rainy night against a team that has the #4-ranked pass defense but only the #20-ranked run defense? And oh ya, we completed only 3 of those (21%), all in the 1st half. Sorry, but the play-calling’s bad on somebody’s part. How about showing a little patience for a change?

Second, why did we allow a rookie QB to complete almost 80% of his passes? And 19 in a row at one point? Sorry again, but that’s ludicrous, especially considering that Mac Jones didn’t exactly have to ‘thread the needle’ on the majority of those throws. Pats only threw deep 3 times on the night, completing 2 (1 by Meyers & the other by Jones, whose other deep pass was intercepted). Mac Jones threw virtually everything short, to the left, to the middle, to the left side, and with almost equal precision. Bucs need to rethink what we’re asking our LBs, CBs and Safeties to do in coverage. Receivers are running free underneath especially, apparently with the idea that we’ll tackle them AFTER they catch the ball. Brilliant strategy; not working worth a damn.

And third, our Special Teams is still very iffy. Pinion put the first kickoff out of bounds, then had 2 short punts giving the Pats decent field position (our defense held the Pats both times thankfully). Mickens fumble on that punt in the 3rd qtr could’ve been catastrophic if not for the penalty on Slater. And the 2 kickoff runbacks by Mickens then Johnson were terrible.

Still, a win is a win, even if it’s ugly. Bucs need to rethink a lot of things before we play the Dolphins.

Get used to close games. Just fighting for division title and hopefully a bye. GO BUCS!
