Torry Holt: Rams Must Stick With Run Game

September 24th, 2021

Run-swallowers

Yes, the Rams pound the rock. That’s why they hustled to trade with the Belicheats for running back Sony Michel after Cam Akers was lost for the season.

In fact, the Rams rank 16th in the NFL in rushing attempts this season and 27th in pass attempts.

The Rams aren’t good in their run game, but retired seven-time Pro Bowl Rams receiver Torry Holt was adamant this week that Los Angeles must stick with it Sunday if they want a win against the Bucs.

Holt co-hosts Rams House Radio on SiriusXM NFL Radio, where he expressed certainty that even if the Bucs stuff the run, the Rams have to keep hammering away at it. Why? Per Holt, the Rams need it to set up the core of their passing attack for quarterback Matt Stafford.

Thankfully, Holt was familiar with the Bucs defense and acknowledged it’s elite against the run. Holt seems especially impressed by manbeast nose tackle Vita Vea, who did not play against the Rams last season. He sees Vea as an X-factor in Sunday’s game.

between the unknown (stopping the run this year), and the “we suck at yards per/passing”, I will take the “unknown”.
    So go for it Rams….

I think we see an all pro level play from white this game, I think our defense is going to turn it up a notch !

Lol. Didn’t they lose one of their good RB?

  9. JimmyJack Says:

For what its worth our run D has not been really tested yet this year. Not sure the Rams will be the team but eventually somebody will try to run on us. Our boys up front need to stay ready.

But ultimately, can Stafford outduel Brady? If so, I think they get serious about Richard Sherman–and John Lynch dropped out this morning, in an interview. Sherman was bitter when Seattle dropped him, and he does want another ring, so I’d say the Bucs are the frontrunner.

if i owned the Rams I would fire the coach if he ran it more than twice the entire game LOL

I agree…….Devin White will show up big in this game……Sony’s worst nightmare.

  13. Listnfrmafar Says:

Just heard this, Donald has never sacked Brady, he threw him down on a dirty play that didn’t get called in the Pat’s/Rams SB, he’ll be head hunting.

  14. Ben green Says:

Brady is at his deadliest when using playaction. You need to run the ball well for effective playaction passing. They may need help at that position. Gio Bernard has been a 0. And looks like he’s lost two steps instead of one. Rojo has been a negative, and LF likes to bounce the ball of his helmet. This offense is very talented, but the backs are still a huge question mark. The Rams will challenge this o line. Ben is excited for this matchup, should be a great one. Look for gronk on the TE delay. One of the favorites from NE

  15. JA Says:

If you play a team who’s defensive statistics show that team to be the best at stopping the run while cellar dwelling against the pass, Mr. Holt suggests his former team should focus on attacking that team’s strength in lieu of its weakness.
If I didn’t know better I’d say Mr. Torry is intent on riding Mr. Lovie’s coattails into football oblivion.
    But that’s me …

Mystery solved! BenJARVUS Green ELLIS perhaps BEN!?!? C’mon Man!! GO BUCS!!!!!

Surprise surprise another lazy take by a talking head

  18. August 1976 Buc Says:

T Holt does not have confidence in Stafford at this point of the season to be able win without the Rams sticking to the Run.

The Rams did not play any kind of great game last week.
If anyone watched the Ram game last week, they should have lost. The Colts crapped the bed twice from 1st and goal.
The Colts got – 0 zero points. The Colts should have one the game, but boneheaded play by Wentz cost the Colts the game.

In all the talk about Donald by the talking heads, no one on the national media has mentioned that Donald has not been great against the Bucs the last 2 years.

If you have NFL game pass just go back and watch the 2019, and 2020 games, Donald has not been all world against the Bucs O line by any stretch.

Brady Clean jersey and not a bunch of Turnovers = Bucs win
    Pretty simple really.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  19. Mike Says:

Any research on “you need a good running offense to exploit play action”? You can see that the Bucs does not have a running offense but it is better when using play action.

Holt is crazy–I doubt Darryl Henderson even can play (ribs).
