“They Do What They Do”

September 24th, 2021

Willie McGinest of NFL Network.

It’s Todd Bowles vs. Sean McVay.

Former NFL linebacker Willie McGinest is looking forward to Sunday’s chess match between Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and Rams head coach/offensive coordinator Sean McVay as much as the game itself.

Both coaches are considered next-level football minds. McVay got his team to a Super Bowl with Jared Goff for crying out loud. Bowles shut down the NFL’s greatest passer in the Super Bowl like he’s never been throttled before.

“You have two great minds going at each other,” McGinest said on a recent edition of “Total Access” seen weeknights on NFL Network. “Neither of these two teams is going to hide what they do.”

McGinest praised McVay for his creative plays and usage of receivers out of an 11-formation. Bowles got props for always finding a way to pressure a quarterback.

You can see McGinest’s take on the two coaches in the NFL Network video below.

i don’t consider sony michel a scrub at all

  2. IrishMist Says:

So I guess we have to do what we do better than they do what they do.

  3. Ben green Says:

Old friend Willie, what a presence he was. A beautiful person inside and out. Ben had the pleasure of meeting him a few times for different Boston area children’s benefits. He was as humble as could be. An all around good guy.

  4. adam from ny Says:

one of the interesting components to them now having matt stafford is he had become so conditioned to losing and handling losing for so long in detroit – you can;t just throw that fact out the window when it comes to competing in a big game…

they are better with stafford, but you can’t erase his past conditioning

  5. SlyPirate Says:

What about Byron Leftwich vs RAHEEM MORRIS?

Come on! Morris is a former HC for the Bucs.
    -Coined the term “Youngry”
    -Drafted Freeman and GMC
-Recorded the last double-digit wins in a season until … BA

  6. Ben green Says:

Sony isn’t a great back. He was beat out by a rookie, and subsequently traded. He isn’t fast enough to run by anyone, and he can’t run anyone over m the Patriots offense is predicted on the run. McVey was apparently deceived by the superbowl performance. He’s not a threat

  7. Listnfrmafar Says:

Sony Michel is a scrub, if Rams do not provide him a FB Bucs can dismiss the run, he cannot run in a one back set. I also believe the verdict is not out yet on whether Stafford is better than Goff. Goff can score points quickly. Sunday should be a fun day.

  8. PassingThru Says:

I don’t consider Sony Michel a scrub, but he was badly over-drafted. He has good but not great power and very little wiggle from the hips. If you want to insult him, call him a “stiff” because that’s the way he runs. His vision is decent and makes good decisions. He won’t be tackled for a loss too often.

  9. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Stafford is paper mache. How many plays did he last in 2020 against the Bucs. Five?

  10. Listnfrmafar Says:

Passing, obviously you only passed through New England because I have watched him since he was drafted and hoped that he would evolve into a quality RB, he often gets dropped in the backfield for a loss. He’s had two good games since joing the Pat’s, AFC playoff game with Chargers and SB against Rams both because focus was on stopping Brady.

  11. Medicated Pete Says:

Pete wants to see Willie & that chick he works w/ hook-up on-air. That would be good tv

  12. Crickett Baker Says:

I would not and have not discounted Michel. He looks improved, to me, and I don’t think he was half bad to begin with. I don’t see this game as tough as everyone makes it out to be, though. I think we will win, if we execute. They are not better than we are, in totality, imo. Not to mention that luck seems to be on our side, la8ly..

  13. Bucfan593 Says:

Joebucsfan would be better without poisoned Pete!

  14. Bucfan593 Says:

    Why’s suggest pornography you’re a bad person

  15. geno711 Says:

Just my opinion, others may disagree.
Whether they have “great” minds or not, I would not call either Sean McVay or Todd Bowles “great” coaches.

Both seem to be good coaches.

Like a lot of good offensive minds, McVay excelled his 1st season as head coach and then has regressed to the norm.

    2017 — 1st in points.
    2018 — 2nd in points.
    2019 — 11th in points.
    2020 — 23rd in points.

All that with mortgaging their future more than any other team.

  16. geno711 Says:

That year that the Patriots picked Sony Michel is turning out to be a pretty bad year for running backs drafted.

Michel, Penny and Barkley were 1st round picks.
Chubb was a hit very early in the 2nd round.

But other 2nd round picks were Jones, Guice, and Kerryon Johnson.

Its not like the rest of the draft got any huge steals at running back.

  17. SB Says:

That was actually one of the better synopsis’ I have heard in a while on TV.

  18. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Their passing attack concerns me, especially if we have no pass rush.
Cooper Cupp is known for getting open.
Plus, they are playing at home, and SoFi will be packed.

  19. Mikadeemas Says:

    OK BenJARVIS! GO BUCS!!!!!

  20. Doctor Stroud Says:

Please beat the Rams and beat them soundly. We could have been to four Super Bowls (rather than two) had it not been for them. Don’t let Gruden’s “secretary” win!

  21. Ryan K Says:

    STOP COOPER KUPP!
    STOP COOPER KUPP!
    STOP COOPER KUPP!

And thrash Stafford. I believe in Bowles. Bucs will get 2+ turnovers similar to game two years ago in coliseum

  22. Greg Says:

All that being said. Let’s not underestimate Raheem, he is good and I am sure this game means a lot to him. They will be prepared!

  23. Miller5252 Says:

First, Tampa needs to pull a belicheat and take Kupp outta the game on coverage. Double team or something else to make sure he never sees the ball. Maybe CDIII in man all day with him and help.

Second, last year the Rams D had our number and we looked horrible. The Bucs D kept it close and gave chance after chance to the O who blew it. Morris wants nothing better then be the D that shuts down the Bucs and stops the winning streak. Bucs offense better be creative this week and no running back hand offs up the middle….. PLEASE!!

  24. Mike Johnson Says:

LA is gonna come out gunnin. No JPP but this may be a moment for a rookie to shine. I got the Bucs making a statement in this game. Should be a good one.

  25. Oxycodoms Says:

Rams only game 3 in with stafford, despite brown and jpp out bucs need to make a statement what kind of team will they be this year. How committed is the whole team

  26. Mort Says:

JTS gonna have to absolutely show out for the Bucs to win. This is a very compelling matchup because either team could squeak it out, or blow the other out. Go Bucs. Hope y’all studied your asses off this week.

  27. TomBrady_converted bucs fan Says:

Sony isn’t a scrub but I was baffled when Belichick drafted him over his own college teammate who started over him and put up double the stats… Nick Chubb. I mean there is a reason Georgia gave the rock more to Chubb. They over rated Sonys misleading per attempt amount on low carries.

Either way, I got tickets to the game – I live in LA now.. super pumped to see Brady play again. Been a few years.

  28. David Says:

Put Carlton Davis on Cooper and get after Stafford anyway you can.

  29. BillyBucoff Says:

@Mort so you are saying the Bucs chances to win lie in the hands of a rookie?

There are so many different players capable of making splash plays that seems pretty far fetched.

I agree him going off would help, but I doubt if the Bucs lose this game the media is saying it’s because of JTS.

  30. BillyBucoff Says:

Will be interesting early to see McVays mindset about play calls.
Will he go for a 4th and 1 at the 50 thinking points are at a premium?

He is obviously thinking as an offensive mind they will need to score 30+.
    Thats right at their average.

If the Bucs score on their 1st drive McVay will be actively loosing weight on the sideline.

  31. Listnfrmafar Says:

I don’t thin McVey is think go for it on4th &1, last & checked Bucs run defense is pretty good. This is Staffords 3rd game with Rams and it’s not like he’s lighting up the scoreboard. The 2 games they played were Bears & Indy both of which they struggled with the run. Grant it 2 decent defenses but lousy offenses. They should be more worried about Bucs than Bucs about them. Oh and Brady has NO issue with fan noise, he has beaten some of the premier teams in the loudest stadiums in the league. Rams won’t stop him but can Bucs.D.stop Stafford?

  32. Steven007 Says:

List, also good chance 40% of the fans will be rooting for our team.

  33. Bucman Says:

Pete is one of the funniest in here!

  34. BucsCoolade Says:

Mcguinest is pointing out how strategy plays into game plans .. #1 job for Play calls, personnel packages is know your matchups and win those battles.

McVeigh , Stafford, michel, can move the ball.. key will be red zone.. probly close game
