More Evidence Tom Brady Burns Teams With Motion

September 13th, 2021

Thrives with motion.

Joe remembers during training camp Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich scoffed about using more players in motion on offense saying he doesn’t know why people are talking so much about players in motion.

Leftwich continued that the Bucs just run plays they think will work.

Apparently, Leftwich doesn’t understand folks outside the inner sanctum of One Buc Palace track every NFL play.

It seems that the Bucs used a fair amount of motion plays against the Cowboys, and Brady did quite well with it, as he is wont to do. Per NextGen stats, over 60 percent of the time last Thursday night Brady and the Bucs used some form of motion.

And on those plays, Brady was pretty damn sharp completing 21 of 29 passes.

Joe’s a big believer in not fixing what is not broken. And since Brady excels on pass plays with someone in motion, why stop?

Supposedly, The motion guy will help TB12, find out what the defense will do. He may check down to it, all the time. Or, TB12, and Bryon are on the same page.

  2. Medicated Pete Says:

Bucs started doing more motion last season when Tom Brady said ENUFF of this No Risk it No Biscuit garbage. Next thing you know, there’s an epic boat parade 🏝⛵🛶🚤

  3. Ksbucfan Says:

It would be amazing if Tom and Bruce could stick around for a few more years and see what they come up with. But they both know they are almost out of time and just want to win. Obviously Tom has a lot of input to the play calling as he can say no to 2 plays in a row that were called in. It wasn’t a good look for BL, but I still think he has a lot of input on the offense, and if the three of them had years together they would be a dynasty. But I really think tb12, just wants to get the last records he doesn’t have

  4. Dung Danh Says:

Yes, I am 100% agree with Ksbucfan. Tom, Bruce, and BL are the key to unlock and will be a dynasty. I personally felt that T12 needs to get the last records he doesn’t have. That record should be his in 2023. Them 3 must stick together!

“Leftwich continued that the Bucs just run plays they think will work.”

How about, instead of running up the gut on first down EVERY. SINGLE. TIME…. Do a play action once in a while?

  6. Brevard Buc Says:

Ever think they know what works.
    Why tip your hand.

This coaching staff has a long leash. IMO!

  7. Brevard Buc Says:

Ever think they know what plays work?

This coaching staff should be given a long leash.
    They have earned it.

  8. Brevard Buc Says:

    Don’t tip your pitches Byron.

    Keep up the good work.

  9. ModHairKen Says:

That article makes Leftwich sound like an idiot.

  10. Darin Says:

Ed it tells him man or zone. Huge help. He loves advantages

  11. Wild Bill Says:

Ya, too many first down run plays. This tendency is known by every defensive coordinator in the NFL. Call more audibles Tom. Dare the coaches to bench you for it.

  12. Bob in valrico Says:

    Wow,
Not counting passes behind or at LOS, Brady threw twice as many passes to right side of hashmarks as the left. Shows a lot of trust in Smith and Marpet to protect his blind side. Also makes me wonder if Evans will get his next 1000 yards.

Medicated Pete said, “Bucs started doing more motion last season when Tom Brady said ENUFF of this No Risk it No Biscuit garbage. Next thing you know, there’s an epic boat parade.”

That was good Pete! However, I don’t think the No Risk it No Biscuit philosophy is out the window.

  14. Biff Barker Says:

Brady took the first 8 weeks last season to learn the offense, the last 8 weeks he spent running the plays he knew would work.
BA liked BL because everyone loves a yes man. BL wants to run BA’s offense.
    Simple as that.

  15. M. Steelman Says:

There will be motion if Brady’s playing. That’s how he reads the defense by seeing who moves on the motion. Payton loved motion, lol that’s what all that omaha stuff was about. (In part) and the play that has been referenced where he yelled no,no,no that was a play kill . He did switch plays, but 2min drill is pretty much scripted with a number of plays already called and next play up when Tom wants to switch . Like when he sees who moves on the motion. No problems between Tom Terrific and Byron

  16. lambeau Says:

I think Byron sounds dumb with the media because he is defensive about the offense evolving as Tom steadily lobbies for incorporating what he worked on with McDaniels in Foxboro.

  17. PassingThru Says:

The offense mutated quite a bit over the course of last season, most notably the frequency of motion, RPOs, TE and RB passes. Some fans claim that it is still the “biscuit offense” with the justification being increased deep balls by Brady. That part is true in that Arians prefers a much deeper passing game than Belichick, but that’s superficial.

I think that Arians did provide for more flexibility as last season progressed. However there was an obvious speed bump during the Thursday night game when Leftwich called for a play and Brady vigorously shook it off. The play in question was the completion to Godwin which set up the game winning field goal. Leftwich looked very displeased with Brady and they talked amongst themselves while everyone else on the TB sideline was celebrating after Succop’s field goal.

  18. Randy Says:

When are people going to realize. Leftwich is an IDIOT! Brady changed the offense and Arians is smart enough to shut up and get out of the way. If Lefty died tomorrow, the Bucs would be a far better team. To think morons were surprised he fidn’t get a head coaching job. My mom knows more about football than that fool, and she doesn’t watch football!

  19. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Arians don’t briefcase in it so how much you think Leftowhich is going to run it?

  20. JSlice Says:

Brady excels in running the Patriots offense. It’s as much Belichick as Brady. Love them both!

  21. Mike Says:

Why not increase it to 80%?

I think the Coach just help by scouting and providing good plays and let TB make decision each play. The last series is a TB type by throwing the RB twice, TE twice then suddenly a long ball. It is a winning strategy!

  22. LeroyIsAnAgent Says:

BaggerofTea = CAC. Anyone defending this guy is a CAC as well. The Coli is 65% Asian, 20% white, and 15% black. Agents took over the Coli when it was sold in 2015.

  23. Just a fan Says:

With two years left on the contract and anything being possible. I think it would be amazing if Tom had the chance to take on his former team in the super bowl. Could you imagine us making it back to the super bowl and going against NE? THAT would be epic! That would be one for the history books.

  24. Lamarcus Guiton Says:

I don’t know about the run game. It’s been trash since JW rookie season and Doug Martin was 2nd leading rusher in the league. No real regular season success. Run Fournette more. His game always been ground and pound he gets better late in games
