“I Don’t Put Any Stock In That”

September 15th, 2021

Says Week 1 can be deceiving.

Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians was talking about mirages, indirectly.

And in so many words, Arians informed the local pen and mic club after practice today that Week 1 results can be smoke and mirrors.

There is a thing you may have heard of around the NFL called “Week 1 overreaction.” Folks still not over the hunger pangs of no football for over six months, freak out from the results.

Last Sunday, the Dixie Chicks got absolutely curb-stomped by the lowly Eagles. People on national radio are already administering last rites to the Dixie Chicks for the 2021 season.

Arians pretty much said today that is bulls(p)it.

“They’ve got weapons,” Arians said of Atlanta. “A lot of teams didn’t look good the first week, for whatever reason. I don’t put any stock in that. We know how good the Falcons are.”

If not for a furious comeback by the Bucs in the second half of a game against Atlanta in December, the Bucs may have easily lost, had a tougher wild card game, and who knows what would have happened?

Per USA Today, teams that start 0-2 make the playoffs a hair over 10 percent of the time. So Joe fully expects the Dixie Chicks to be playing like their lives depend upon it on Sunday.

I expected to go to the Cowboys game for a relatively stress free enjoyable win. I had flashes of Jameis and years of upsets flash before my eyes as the game progressed.
If we don’t stomp the Falcons I’ll have to call Pete for some meds .

  8. August 1976 Buc Says:

Fix the secondary, or it is going to be shootouts.
Hopefully the Bucs play a clean game, and win easily,
BUT………….. again fix the secondary or it going to be crazy games.

    GO BUCS!!!!!!

  10. Mike Says:

Bucs have 3 safeties that can play at a high level. Maybe they run single high safety and two others in the short to intermediate zones to help the corners out.

  11. TiredBucsFan Says:

Did anyone see McCoy is done for the season?

  12. SlyPirate Says:

Atlanta’s HC is a way too inexperienced.

    3 years TE coach
    2 years OC
    3 playoff games

    That’s it!

Comparatively guys like Bowles and Bieniemy have had a lot of years and a lot of success (including playoff wins and Super Bowls)

the first quarter of the season can be very deceptive as a whole…

you want to have a hot start or at least go 2-2…if you go 1-3 your season is on the brink, and if you start 0-4 it’s basically a wrap…

the first quarter of the season is always weird, and teams start to settle in by about week 5…

this year we have 4 quarters to a season – plus one extra game….making for 17 – which is super weird…it’s like a test or something, because the league is not going to stay on 17 games long term…it has to move to an even number of 18 in like 2023 or just go back to 16…no league has ever had an odd number of games…it just creates issues…the 17 games is prolly just a prelude to 18…

  14. Buxszntkt Says:

Yes , sucks for McCoy !!
Poor dude, perhaps he will retire and join Beckles or Clayton as disappointing Bucs players who retired and now do commentary on Buc games.

  15. Mike Johnson Says:

And what does buxsntkt do.?…Has he ever played the game on any level? Be careful how you call out ex players. many of them make far more cash and have more influence in retirement that you ever will have. Just be thankful we have football to watch and be less critical of others…sir.

  16. Darin Says:

Atlanta’s Oline looked terrible. Play calling was even worse. Looked like the new HC wanted to get home asap.

“Medicated Pete” is a conglomerate of 3 or 4 persons taking shifts…..or, Medicated Pete is on something TBBF used to stay up studying for USF exams….

Very Good Stuff, by the way.

  18. NashvilleBuc Says:

Any week, any team can drop a deuce on any field against any opponent. That is all.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

God, people mocking McCoy getting injured, what a bunch of pieces of garbage.

  20. Bucnjim Says:

Teams have several months to prepare for their first game. Dallas gave us everything they had and almost pulled off a win on the road. Have to give them some credit especially since Dak had little to no preseason reps. When teams have less than a week to game plan that’s when it gets interesting!

  21. Craig Says:

Brady owns the Dixie Chicks. All he has to do is get the receivers to catch the ball.

Mattie is no Dak and the team doesn’t have someone like Zeke to blunt the delayed blitz. Mattie also doesn’t have much of a lateral passing game. He is going to be sore when the game is over, defense is going to feast.

  22. Buc4evr Says:

This is a trap game , hope the Bucs secondary can stop Atlanta on third downs and the front seven steps up the pressure.

  23. Clw JB Says:

The pass D looked horrible regardless of the injuries – inconsistent pressure and soft coverage- expect that to change quickly

Watched the Falcons/Eagles game, the Falcons O is very conservative and run short routes consistently – they never tried to stretch the field, likely because they cant protect long enough

This is a curb stomp in the making….less a couple TD’s that mean nothing against our D

  24. Louis J Glasser Says:

He doosh, for those who don’t drink alcohol, quinine and qualude…..make mine a double, please

  25. Defense Rules Says:

Bucs4evr … I’m not sure that I’d call it a ‘trap game’ but I agree that our offense & defense better have their act together by Sunday. Four TOs are unacceptable, as are 11 penalties for over 100 yds. We blitzed 61 players, had ONE sack to show for it, and got eaten alive with the underneath passes (exactly what Matt Ryan was doing to Philly?).

The correction is easy IMO: Pass rush the way we know how to pass rush. We’ve got the best Front-7 in the league & they need to not just kick themselves in the butt, but do the same to the Falcons’ OLine. Smashmouth football at its’ finest. And for heaven’s sake, control the clock with either a higher completion percentage or more running. The longer our defense stays on the field, the more injuries will pile up over time.

  26. Hodad Says:

Our defense let Dak have his way last week. He threw for more yards than 31 other QB’s. Our D better come out pissed about their performance against the Boys, because it wasn’t good.
