Bruce Arians Reveals Serious Injury, Hero From Week 1 Win

September 13th, 2021

Bucco Bruce Arians

Bruce Arians was talking today and Joe had to do a double take.

Speaking to Dangerous Dan Lucas of WFLA-TV, the head coach revealed that Buccaneers long snapper Zach Triner seriously injured his hand early in the game.

“Can’t say enough about Zach Triner because he had tore the tendon in his left hand the second punt of the game and stayed in the whole game and made that snap to win the game on the field goal,” Arians explained.

That second punt? It opened the second quarter, so Triner’s heroics came more than two hours later.

Damn, what a hidden warrior Triner was Thursday. Joe wonders if Bucs trainers were able to find just the right injection to get into Triner so he could finish the game.

Hopefully, Triner will be able to make it back for Sunday against the Falcons. And no, that’s not just because Joe’s fantasy league kicker is Ryan Succop. That kicker-holder-snapper chemistry is critical, especially for a kicker’s confidence.

    Wow!
    Great effort!
    Go Bucs!

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Most couldn’t name our long-snapper…….but a crucial part of the kicking game….way to go Zach

Not to detract from the heroics, but not altogether inexplicable. Tore a tendon in my finger playing high school ball. Got it stuck in OT’s facemask. Actually felt no pain or loss of function until next day it swelled up. Surgery a few days later. Would be a multi month recovery, perhaps season ending for Triner if he goes under the knife.

  4. Hawk Says:

I doubt that the trainers injected him with any kind of pain killer. That would have ‘deadened’ part of his hand, and make gripping the ball much more difficult. Especially have to snap it back 20+ feet accurately.
I think he just ‘played through it’.

  5. SlyPirate Says:

Alex Cappa blocked 300lbs defensive lineman with a broken arm.

    Torn tendon. Please.

Not sure a cranial compound fracture could keep Buc OL out of the game.

  6. mg Says:

Thats what Champions do. Fabulous effort.

  7. Beeej Says:

I have Succop on my team also. (ALSO had Mike Evans and Julio Jones, and the Ravens running back who tore his ACL before the game even started, sadly)

  8. sasquatch Says:

    Who’s the backup snapper?

  9. Darin Says:

He’s out at least three weeks. IR

  10. DoooshLaRue Says:

Pinion had a hell of a game too.

  11. Rod Munch Says:

That was the first good game Pinion has had as a Buc – he’s normally been pretty awful, so it quite the surprize.

  12. IrishMist Says:

Damn, our kicking game is finally going good, now we have to break in a new long snapper.

  13. Buc4evr Says:

Zach was placed on IR. Out 10-12 weeks. Bucs signed Carson Tinker. Has not played since 2018. Scary.

  14. adam from ny Says:

wait…we’re tinkering around with a new long napper?

    i mean long snapper 🙂

    Soldier

  16. “That guy” Says:

Hopefully he doesn’t miss much time, the special teams play actually looked special against Dallas and Triner is a big part of that. Not only the game winner by Succop, but the couple of pinion pins inside the 5 may not be there without a skilled longsnapper to get them the ball. maybe
We will get Whitehead back soon so mediocre QB’s can’t rack up 400 yards by throwing to the left flat. Hell, maybe the refs will start actually calling holding on opposing OL. Either way, Not worried about week one, if anything our bucs played terrible and still found a way to win. That’s the sign of a great team.

  17. Your Mom Says:

[That’s not very nice. — Joe]

  18. Listnfrmafar Says:

So much for worry of player complacency. Wa Ea Warriors, coming out to play eh.

  19. BigBucFan11 Says:

We’re in good hands with Tinker. He’s been solid in the league for 10 years and won 3 championships with Bama. He knows what he’s doing. He’s been through a lot too. His girlfriend died in a tornado while he was at Bama.

  20. BigBucFan11 Says:

Ok more like 6 years but still, he’ll do fine.

  21. Jack M Karakowe Says:

Monday night football mentioned the Ravens parted with their long snapper of 12 years. Why sign a guy who hasn’t played in 3 years?

  22. Brandon Says:

He’s already on IR for up to eight weeks.

  23. Taylor ashley Says:

Look I’m a true Brady fan and ima say this once and once only u have nothing good to say about the bucs shut up cause no matter what Brady got 7rings and bringing more to the bucs the bucs is the best can we say super bowl 2022
