Additional Details On Richard Sherman’s Visit

September 28th, 2021

Cornerback Richard Sherman.

Joe has a strong hunch Richard Sherman isn’t flying cross-country from Seattle to Tampa today just to have a couple of beers and admire the scenery at Clearwater Beach.

Yes, Sherman and the Bucs have been talking turkey for the past couple of weeks, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports today. Sherman was waiting for the right opportunity for him to get off his couch, per Pelissero.

Perhaps the Bucs are that right opportunity?

Pelissero has additional details of Sherman’s visit to One Buc Palace today in the NFL Network report you may view below.

Don’t let him leave tampa, Jason.

  2. Cainishere Says:

    Go Bucs

  3. Medicated Pete Says:

He, Licht & Arians got blackout hammered today I’d bet

  4. Bucs Fan From Philly Says:

Bring in Brady to talk to him, JPP, Suh, Devin, Lavonte, Evans, Brown, Gronk, and the coaches. Give him the tour and whatever else is needed to get him to sign today.

  5. DBS Says:

Get it done. We need a smart talented vet back in that secondary.

  6. Tye Says:

Is he really the best option for the Bucs?…
He is not the same corner of his younger days…
If they can figure out a pass rush, that would fix some of it!

  7. Captain Dan Lawrence Says:

That’s the news? Heck that was a little anticlimactic!

  8. uncommon Says:

He could help, but nobody can cover for the 10+ seconds these qbs have to throw. If there is no pressure, this is all a waste.

    Here are Joe’s quick takes:

    * Is Sherman the best option? Depends who is available and what the asking price is. Am confident the Bucs have made calls around the league. Also keep in mind every GM knows the Bucs need corners right now. So they likely are asking for top-dollar. Keep in mind the NFL is not a charity and no team wants to help the Bucs win another Super Bowl.

    * Sherman didn’t look good when he last played. He looked toasty. Pretty confident no one knows this better than Sherman (otherwise he would not be unemployed). So he likely had to remake himself. Sherman is not a stupid man.

    * After the past 18 months or so, Joe thinks the Bucs have earned the benefit of the doubt. If they think he can help, more power to them.

    * A corner is a helluva lot less expensive to get than a pass rusher. What pass rusher off the street can come in and make an immediate impact? Don’t think DeMarcus Ware is coming out of retirement.

    @admin

Exactly what I’ve been saying. I’m encouraged by the weight loss, but he really needs to be worked out. Fast twitch athletes are never 100% after an Achilles injury and of course there’s the age. Revis fell apart quickly. How quick? As of today Revis is only 36 years old.

  11. Joe Says:

I’m encouraged by the weight loss, but he really needs to be worked out.

No one has reported he’s coming in to sign a contract. He’s coming in to work out (first). Think about it: Are the Bucs going to sign Sherman to a big contract if he looks like a warm turd?

  12. Nate Says:

It’s not about the right corner at this stage of the game early..3 games in and just as many starters out in the secondary..Sherman is the best available besides trading for a guy ..stephon Gilmore etc and I believe he is hurt

And who to trade ??? Brate is off limits and no one is trading for O.J. fresh off an ACL 3 games in to show….and trading Ronald Jones is out because Bernard is hurt…for a top corner without a player trade your giving up numerous high picks …so no choice circumstances / best option is Richard Sherman …make it happen Licht!!

  13. Joe Says:

    stephon Gilmore

Guys, Stephen Gilmore is not coming. He’s way too expensive. To add Gilmore the Bucs are going to have to cut guys. Not backups, but cut starters. So who gets cut to make room for Gilmore? JPP? Lavonte David? Donovan Smith? (Sit down Doosh). Ryan Jensen? Ndamukong Suh?

Only way Gilmore comes here is if he agrees to a long-term contract and it is backloaded big time and the Bucs cut a starter or two.

  14. PassingThru Says:

    @Joe

Sometimes free agents do sign after a workout. It comes down to how well he tests. If he looks good I bet they’ll try to get a commitment.

  15. PassingThru Says:

And no Stephon Gilmore. Again, Gilmore has not even practiced since surgery. And he’s finagling for a long-term contract for mega bucks. His injury status makes him an uncertainty for this season, his contract demands make him a poor fit for future seasons.

  16. Buc50 Says:

Thanks for the comment on Gilmore. Even though our offense looks like Madden, the NFL is not Madden. People need to chill with all the suggestions like Licht doesn’t have all these guys on a board somewhere

  17. Joe Says:

Sometimes free agents do sign after a workout. It comes down to how well he tests.

    Sure.

  18. 163doubleplay Says:

If Sherman is still that good, why is he still on the couch ? How come no other teams tried to call or sign him ? from what I heard, he is running around 5.5 – 6.0 now

  19. Posey99 Says:

I cant believe people on here really believe Dee Delany is better then Richard Sherman coming off his couch. Have to add someone and might as well be someone who wants to prove themselves and prove to everyone they can still play.

  20. Will Says:

    163doubleplay
I’m not saying Sherman is that good anymore like he was in the past but we’re down to guys that have barely more playing experience in the NFL in games than you or I. Lets see what Sherman can do and remember last year we picked up a free agent who had been cast away by his team and the league was told he wasn’t a team guy. Heck we actually picked up 2 of those guys. Leonard Fournette and AB. Both have helped this team tremendously if Sherman signs with us I’m of the mind that he’ll help us as well.

  21. Listnfrmafar Says:

Ok, if Sherman signs who is going to cover the other 4 receivers?

  22. Dom Says:

Stephon Gilmore would only count 7 million towards the cap this year so the Bucs could afford him. If we could get him for a 2nd or a 3rd round pick, even as just a rental for this season, why not? What is our 2nd or 3rd round pick doing for us this season? Nothing. Sure we might not have Gilmore for about the first half of the season but we don’t need him then. We need someone like him in the playoffs. With a healthy Stephon Gilmore the Bucs would be the favorites to win it all. That should be the objective every year with the limited amount of time we are blessed to have Brady. The only obstacle I could see in this is Belichick not wanting to do business with a Tom Brady lead Bucs squad.

  23. WiscoJoe Says:

Can’t Mike Edwards and/or Antoine Winfield play slot? Top 3 guys Davis, Sherman then one of those two stated earlier. Can’t be too shabby.

  24. Mr Bean Says:

163doubleplay – he is closer to 6 than 5.5. I will be shocked if anyone signed him to play CB at this point. Maybe safety is a possibility.

  25. Mr Bean Says:

Also, you can lose a step as a receiver and still be effective if running good routes. For a CB you need to be able to keep up. If you cannot that you cannot be a CB in man coverage.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

Of course you get Stephon Gilmore if you can get him. Anyone who says otherwise is a world class idiot. Of course the Pats aren’t going to trade him until after the Bucs game if they’re going to trade him at all — and it could be the Bucs are waiting for that, and doing their due diligence on Sherman first. If you had the option of both, giving up maybe a 2nd or 3rd for Gilmore and having a top corner for years, or getting Sherman… uh, duh.

  27. Mike Says:

Have Brady take him down to Clearwater Beach and toss the trophy around.

  28. August 1976 Buc Says:

Better yet get Sherman and Gilmore. No time to screw around, go for another Championship

  29. Ash Says:

Gilmore is never going to happen

  30. Listnfrmafar Says:

Gilmore wants out of New England bad, Belichick is paying the devalue card on him. He is milking the injury and showing up to practice until he gets paid. He would certainly be an improvement but wants to be paid like Ramsey, ain’t gonna happen.

  31. All lives matter Says:

remember Revis? Guy got serious coin while here by the tune of a million a game and was toasted at least once a game.

  32. Bill Romanowsky Says:

Bring him to the space ship at 2001 at once.

  33. TheBradyBunch Says:

Passing Thru try to keep up. That is precisely what Joe was saying.

  34. GMC hater Says:

Sherman is smart, he knows teams will be hurting in the secondary throughout the season. As long as he stays active and healthy there will be a team that signs him, hopefully the Bucs.

  35. TommyLikeWingy Says:

You can thank Gump for this. He went back to his old ways and screwed up the draft and free agency. Now we have a busted pee wee league defense. If it isn’t fixed soon, we are toast. Carolina is in first place. Think about that for a second.

  36. Rod Munch Says:

Bill Romanowsky – is that thing still open? I remember going there with the brothers in the early 90s, and I was 18 at the time. One guy, Fred, told me he goes up into the spaceship with the girls all the time, but he didn’t want to that day. Well, Fred was a lair, he was way too poor to afford whatever it might have cost. Meanwhile I only had like $5 and they had, I believe, a 2-drink minimum – and I couldn’t have alcohol since I was still a teen so I got a coke.

I never got to visit the UFO in my one and only visit to 2001. In my memory the place looked pretty run down back then and I can only imagine how much more disgusting everything is nearly 30-years later.

  37. Kiko Says:

Can’t blame the pass rush completely here. Just like the secondary benefits from a good pass rush, the same is true visa versa. If the secondary can’t cover anyone then the ball comes out quickly and chunk plays are made. Our pass rushers are getting very close, but we need our secondary to challenge receivers a bit more so they can finish.

  38. Ericb Says:

    Sign him !!!

  39. Ericb Says:

Also we need to use Gio more hes explosive can catch and makes plays…he was doing great vs LA

  40. Mustachechuck Says:

Tom Brady and Richard Sherman are friends since Seattle Super Bowl it is Brady lore here in North East where so many NE/Tampa bay fans are I was amazed when visiting Maine a few weeks back at a local Pub how many fans know all the player’s names on the Bucs °Tampa is Really becoming America’s team not the Cowboys. Last season northeast televised every game except one and they are smart enough to do it again this year We notice the NE Pat’s and BUCS never really play same time spot Ratings are great up here for both go Bucs

  41. firethecannons Says:

Show him the ring and the trophy that went on the whirlwind tour from boat to boat and Devin White riding horseback with it.

He needs a change of scenery. He can mentor our squad–Dee Delaney, Dean, SMB, Ross Cockrell–these guys are yungry!

  42. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

It depends on whether or not Brady is mad, bro?!
