“Tom Trusts Him”

One Buccaneer gets the ultimate endorsement

It’s time to officially put one Bucs backup on the 53-man roster for 2021.

Bucco Bruce Arians was talking on SiriusXM NFL Radio yesterday and shared his enthusiasm for second-year receiver Tyler Johnson.

Arians said Johnson is in great physical shape now after coming into camp heavy, but the head coach delivered the ultimate endorsement for Johnson.

“Tom trusts him,” Arians explained.

Joe will assume everyone reading here knows who “Tom” is. And that means Johnson will be a proud Buccaneer in 2021. When it comes to “Tom,” it’s a high bar to earn his trust. Bucs fans saw last season what happened to Justin Watson after Brady threw an out route to him that turned into a pick-6.

Johnson also might be a busy guy if there’s an injury to the superstar Bucs ahead of him on the depth chart.

this is his year. CG will be gone next year IF TJ balls out…..but only IF.

  2. Steven007 Says:

I think he ended up throwing two pick sixes to Watson if I remember correctly. I knew after the second one he would never get another look, on that route in particular.

  3. Medicated Pete Says:

As long as he’s in shape, we’re good. Meanwhile, Donovan Smith is always 25lbs more than he should be.

  4. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I agree, Tyler is the replacement for Godwin who we will almost certainly lose next year.

  5. webster Says:

Funny I never heard a coach or anyone at one buc place say Smith is 25lbs larger than he should be but stupid buc fans just throw out nonsense. Also, I told you fans when joe the pied piper wrote that Tyler was on the hot seat and all you sheep jump on the cut tyler johnson bandwagon, I told you Johnson was going nowhere. Also, Chris Godwin isn’t going anywhere next year either. Stop the stupid. Bruce arians is already on record as saying whats wrong with having two #1s? In the words of Derrick brooks teams will find a way to keep you if they want you. Trust me the bucs want Godwin

  6. mg Says:

    Love those Golden Gophers!!

  7. SlyPirate Says:

TJ made the 2nd best of the playoffs.

Big players play big in big games.

  8. ArkansasMan Says:

After winning another Super Bowl this season, I think Tom will hang it up.

  9. PSL Bob Says:

I’d not be so quick to write off Godwin next year. I understand the salary cap and all that, but considering what Licht was able to do this year, I certainly think it’s possible that he finds a way to keep Godwin.

    ArkansasMan:
Not a chance in hell Tom quits after winning another ring. Idiots said that for years in NE….and they were wrong. He is happier now than ever and just signed a 2 year extension. And said he will play till he is 45 for many years now.

  11. Mahes Kumaar Ra Says:

Why? When three is a chance for 3repeat? Why would he go away? that would solidify his legacy beyond any questions.

  12. Hodad Says:

I doubt Justin Watson ever plays for the Bucs again.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We will lose Godwin for one main reason……he will want to be paid more than Mike Evans and we simply can’t do that…..so he’s gone….a shame….but maybe TJ will be a satisfactory replacement.

  14. NewarkBucsfan Says:

Godwin doesn’t want to be a Buc. During Arians “he ain’t going no where rant ” when it was Godwins turn he gave Bruce the I don’t think so look. Godwin wants 1st receiver money. As for Tom if he sees an opportunity to win 10 rings he will stay put.

  15. BillyBucoff Says:

It actually works perfectly for the Bucs because year 3 is when receivers break out.
It will be sad to watch Godwin leave unless he and Mike agree on playing together for less. Which isn’t unreasonable.

Godwin is a smart guy and NOT after cash more than success.
Those two things are not exclusively related.

If Godwin does leave, TJ will be ready.

And don’t anybody start with Evans being traded instead.
He will finish his HOF career in Tampa.

  16. Anonymous Says:

I doubt we lose Godwin but there is a chance. He might be the best all around WR and I can see some names dropped if we need to make. I’m looking for Licht to get a LT Whirfs in the first round.

  17. teacherman777 Says:

Godwin will be a Buc for life.

  18. David Says:

Robert…. There is no way they let Godwin go.
    AB is gone.

  19. Listnfrmafar Says:

I told u all, TB12 determines who stays and doesn’t stay on offense. AB will only be gone if he wants to or screws up, Godwin is the shiny penny right now, if AB plays even close to his potential Godwin cannot match him, yet I want them both on this team.

  20. Jerry R Jones Says:

Robert and Webster must wake up attached to one another in bed.

  21. JoJo Says:

Tom likes goals. If #8 SB happens, then there is big #6 looming in the future with his 11 championships.
If Tom wants to dream big, that’s the biggest of them all!
