The Next Bradley Chubb?

August 7th, 2021

Shaq Barrett explains.

In what turned out to be Shaq Barrett’s final season in Denver, the Broncos drafted a guy in the first round at his position, Brady Chubb.

The North Carolina State product quickly established himself as one of the most feared pass rushers in the game by reaching a milestone few rookie pass rushers ever meet. Chubb had double-digit sacks (12) for the Broncos in 2018.

With Von Miller already on the roster and Chubb an instant beast, Shaq knew if he wanted to make cash or have a chance to start, that wasn’t happening in Denver.

Three years later and established as the Bucs’ sack king, Shaq finds himself in a similar position. The Bucs drafted a guy in the first round at his position, Joe Tryon.

Only difference is, Shaq just signed a megadeal this offseason. Not only is he starting, he isn’t going anywhere soon.

Already two weeks into training camp, Shaq has seen enough of Tryon to say Tryon, Shaq believes, may be the next Chubb, so he told the Tampa Bay pen and mic club yesterday after practice.

“He reminds me a lot of Chubb when Chubb came out,” Shaq said of Tryon. “I can see a lot of similarities in him. I think he’s going to have a bright future.”

And both Shaq and Jason Pierre-Paul are helping Tryon get up to speed. Both players acknowledged yesterday the better Tryon plays the better they will be and the better the team will be in the stretch run for the playoffs.

“We try to coach him up in the meeting room,” Shaq said. “We’re pretty much an open door at all times, sharing info.”

Joe thinks this speaks volumes to what kind of men and teammates Shaq and JPP are. If either felt threatened by Tryon or big leagued him because they are established stars, would it surprise you?’

Would you blame them?

“That’s the whole game of training camp,” JPP said. “Throwing your brothers in and getting to know them and teach them what I know. I want to teach them what I know.”

Instead, these guys are coaching up Tryon. Talk about standup guys.

Joe is starting to think Shaq and JPP need to unite after their playing days and start some kind of football school for linemen.

Think about it: Last year those two were asked by Bucs suits and coaches to show Tristan Wirfs everything they had and help him out in order for the right tackle, then a rookie, to raise his game so he could be a productive starter.

They may have helped create a legend along the way.

And now Shaq and JPP have taken Tryon under their wings to teach him all they know.

Imagine how much money these guys could make on the side as retired NFL players in clinics and camps if they could help mold both a stud right tackle and the next Bradley Chubb?

Joe, you missed Planet Sim to teach at the DL school. Hell might as well get Suh too. Su brings the intensity.

Tyron will have to prove he has what it takes over the next year or three. This entire draft class does (those that make the team).

If Tyron turns out to be a mega-player, then we have a replacement for the soon-to-retire Jason Pierre-Paul down the road.

I dunno, this may come as a surprise to him.
I’ve seen no indication of his “desire” to retire.
And as long as he continues producing at his current level, I see no reason for it either.
Of course, Father time is still undefeated. But lets not be too hasty to hurry things up!

Licht has been on an absolute tear the past 2 years in the draft, picking Devin White and Tristan Wirfs.
Now, if Tryon turns out like we hope he will, Licht will go down as an absolute wizard!
I wanted us to take JPP because of his great play at USF.

Joe has a chubb for sacks

The way Licht, BA, and Bowles are phasing in players on the DL really benefits the older vets. Cant ever have enough quality defensive lineman. It’s a long season. Vea proved that last year. Nacho played well when you consider who’s shoes had to fill.

    Oh yes!

The thing is, this Bucs team seems to be loaded with star mentors in many position groups (WR, TE, CB, etc.). That’s what makes this team so special and why so many players accepted less money to play/stay here. No me first here. It’s all about the team. Great camaraderie all the way down from management to coaches to players.

JPP is so underrated. He was one of the top 10 pass rushers in the NFL last year when you look at all his numbers… And he did it on a bum knee.
I cannot wait to see what the two of them do together this year.
Shaq and JPP – combined 25 sacks
    Stay healthy !!!
