The Best Receivers

August 27th, 2021

“No. 1, baby!”

Joe doesn’t think the following will shock anyone. Still, it’s good to get some affirmation.

Mike Clay, a BSPN stat geek, did a large story about the best and worst position units throughout the NFL. This may not come as a huge surprise but it’s cool nonetheless. When it comes to receivers, Clay said no NFL team can touch the Bucs.

The Buccaneers’ offense was very good last season, but it didn’t peak until Antonio Brown returned from suspension and teamed up with Mike Evans and Chris Godwin to create the league’s best wide receiver trio. From Week 9-17, all three receivers were top-27 at the position in receiving yards. They went on to total 517 yards and five touchdowns during the team’s Super Bowl run in the playoffs. All three are back in 2021, and the unit has good depth with Scotty Miller, Tyler Johnson and rookie Jaelon Darden.

Joe maintains it doesn’t matter who the No. 6 receiver is: Jaelon Darden, Jaydon Mickens, even Cyril Grayson, he could be a No. 3 receiver for some teams (the Lions spring to mind).

The Bucs sure have some sick depth at receiver.

    Sure do.

Mickens & Grayson get cut. Bucs keep 6 WR’s

Butterflies in the gut grow butterfingers and a rut.
In a nutshell, that defines CG in the playoffs last year, a time that has come, gone and been stored in memory.
After a year’s worth of playoff experience, Brady should be more comfortable throwing to our “old Bucs” come playoff time this year.
Last year, old Buc Brate was solid, Evans was ok and Godwin had more playoff drops than two years worth of regular season mishaps. I’m guessing that’s why Brady deferred to his senior stalwarts, AB and Gronk when the money was on the line.
This year should be different. With four playoff games under their belts, all wins, I believe our “old Bucs” will leave our opponents wishing for help from above …
And Godwin’s butter will turn to glue.

It too bad, Cyril Grayson was really coming along. He’s a tad faster than Miller and might be one of the fastest players in the league.

  5. Bird Says:

Its not even close. AB is option 3. That is absolutely insane.
I think bucs tight ends may be tops too. At least top 3

  6. steve gaudreau Says:

This team has sickening depth period

  7. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Watch Jax snap up Darden if he is cut. He will never make it to the PC

  8. pick6 Says:

This will probably go down as the most accomplished passing attack in history. Brady and Gronk are firsr ballot HOF guys, Evans and Brown are almost a lock for Canton, and who knows what the rest of Godwin’s career holds….

  9. Hodad Says:

Mickens is our most sure handed returner. He didn’t fumble one return last year. Darden put the ball on the ground with less than a handful of attempts. When he didn’t fumble, he didn’t exactly have any returns worth mentioning. If Mickens get’s cut over Darden it will be because of his draft status, not because he’s a better returner, or receiver than Mickens is now.

  10. Capt.Tim Says:

    AB is our best WR.
On the field, he is close to unstoppable.

  11. Medicated Pete Says:

    @Hodad

    Agree

  12. Brandon Says:

Darden is absolutely not getting cut. He’s a 4th round pick. Unless he outright sucks, no GM cuts a 4th because it will make him look incompetent

  13. Brandon Says:

Why are my comments ALWAYS moderated? Do I have a psst record worthy of this? Seriously asking here.

  14. Wild Bill Says:

We sure do have sick depth at receiver in a good way. But I am sick of preseason games and talk. I want the real thing! Let the dam season hurry up and get here!!!

  15. Craig Says:

It is not that any cut Buc receiver could be another teams #3; they will become some other team’s #3, and end up as their #2.

Every team is watching for whom the Bucs cut. Even Griffin will be picked up, so, Bucs, be careful who you dump.

  16. webster Says:

Anyone suggesting that darden is getting cut is too funny. That is all

  17. Hammerhead Says:

I think this year the Bucs keep 7 for security. Such a deep class but I’m afraid Grayson is the odd man out and won’t make it to the PS.

  18. Mike Says:

Bucs will carry 7 WR’s and Mickens will make the team. ST is a big deal and he is very reliable as a returner.
