More Joe Tryon Props

SMB explains.

The best friend of a defensive back is a pass rush. And the Bucs the past two seasons have been damn good at getting after quarterbacks.

Thank goodness!

With Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul, the Bucs have one of the best bookends of pass rushers in the game. And that pass rush may be even better this year.

First, JPP is healthy. Second, it seems Joe Tryon may be the real deal. The rookie outside linebacker has been getting a lot of props from his coaches and teammates. And you can add another man to the list of folks impressed.

That would be cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting. In short, SMB be said the addition of Tryon is going to freak out some quarterbacks.

“Joe is a beast,” SMB said. “And you could kind of see that from the first day I stepped on the field with him.

“Once he got out here and [practicing] with him, he’s different. He gets off the ball fast and he gets to the quarterback real quick. So he makes our jobs a lot easier.

“Then his drop coverages are really good. And he listens. So integrated him with the other guys in the front-seven is going to be really scary for a lot of teams. I don’t think they are ready for what [the front-seven] is ready to unleash.”

Joe already knows Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is developing special packages for Tryon. Imagine (if he is all that) getting Tryon on the field along with Ndamukong Suh, Vita Vea, Shaq and JPP on passing downs? How are teams going to stop all those guys?

Joe cannot wait to see if slimy Saints coach Sean Payton tries to be the smartest guy in the room and starts that single-wing quarterback Taysom Hill that Payton seems in love with. The Bucs’ front-seven will light up that guy’s world!

    The Legend of Joe continues…..

  2. Buc50 Says:

Hats off to Jason Licht and Coach Arians. They have been firing on all cylinders with personnel.

Exciting to contemplate. That front 7 (or is it 8 now?) may well be the best ever. If they produce as we expect.

  4. RCS Says:

From some of the videos they have posted, it looks like on passing down, they have been sliding JPP on the inside (because he’s so quick guards have no chance) and Joe on the outside. So a pass rush package could have Joe, JPP, Shaq, and Gholston (who lead the team in QB pressures and hits) That would be very nice…

I can seriously see the Bucs breaking their own record in sacks this year. Anyone knows the NFL record for sacks?

  6. Mike Says:

The 84 Bears had 72 sacks in a season I believe.

The intruiging thing is theres no reason to sell any hype to the fans about Tryon. We already have a Championship roster so fans dont need a rookie to be excited.

It might be possible that Bruce is saying these things to boost Tryons ego. Im pretty sure thats one of his methods.

But I think theres a good chance this Tryon hype is real, they did pick him in round 1 afterall so it wouldnt be that surpizing…….We should have a better idea in the next week or 2. If Joe Tryon is making plays against our starters he shouldnt have any issues beating backups in preseason games.

  8. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Right on Mike with Bears holding single season mark with 72. Derrick Thomas holds single game record with 7.

Feels like the Joe Tryon hype is hitting a crescendo.
Not sure that he can get to this level during the season unless he becomes a 10 sack guy.

Fun to read. Overall, I am 90% on his bandwagon right now.

  10. Buczilla Says:

All of this sounds too good to be true, but I am happy to hear it nonetheless!

  11. PSL Bob Says:

For another stat re sacks. The record for single season sacks was 22.5 set by Michael Strahan (Giants) in 2001.

Our defense has looked allergic to Taysom Hill every time we’ve played them, so be careful what you wish for.
