Kyle Trask & Ryan Griffin Will Share 3 1/2 Quarters

August 21st, 2021

“I got this, TB12.”

The plan has been revealed.

Tonight at The Licht House, Bucs fans should not expect to see Tom Brady play football. And the 163 Blaine Gabbert groupies shouldn’t be celebrating too much.

Bucco Bruce Arians told WDAE radio on Thursday that Gabbert “probably won’t play more than half a quarter. So the Bucs’ second preseason game (7:30 p.m. kickoff against the Titans) will feature veteran QB Ryan Griffin and rookie quarterback Kyle Trask.

“Kyle is making great progress every single day,” Arians said.

Joe hopes the Bucs give Trask at least the entire second half. You can’t evaluate the kid without seeing him play, and Griffin is 31 years old with four career pass attempts.

Next Saturday at Houston, Arians plans to play the starters a lot and give Gabbert time, too. So tonight might be Trask’s last big chance to show what he can do..

Ryan griffin why? We have seen enough

Let trask play whole game if gabbert not playing much

  2. Beeej Says:

Griffin might be looking at the end of his career (such as it is)

  3. Rads Says:

Griffin is in because this is Trask’s night to take #3. Simple.

  4. SB Says:

So tonight might be Trask’s last big chance to show what he can do..

    ;………….

    What? Last chance?
C’mon Joe. Kid isn’t going anywhere. And HOW can he show what he can do with future Delivery truck drivers and what not?

  5. Dew Says:

Zero reasons to give Griffin QB time at this point.

  6. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

    ” …the 163 Blaine Gabbert groupies…..Hahahaha! 164 if you count Coach BA.

I was hoping Gabbert would take the 1st quarter, Trask the 2nd and come out of half time for all of the 3rd and let Griffin finish.

  7. JimmyJack Says:

I doubt the Bucs keep 4 QBs so Griffin is probably out…….But I think the Bucs are letting Griffin get some work in to help him get some film out there which can possibly help him get a job with another team. From what Ive learned watching behind the scene shows like Hard Knocks this is a common thing for teams to do with guys that are hard workers.

Of course if Griffin plays like he did last week there wont be any intrest. So hopefully he can play like we all seen him before which should mean a easy Bucs win.

  8. JimmyJack Says:

SB…..I think Joe means its Kyles last chance to perform with live snaps……..Brady might play an entire half next week and then its Blaine time……….Doesnt leave much work for Trask.

Dont mean the Bucs will give up on Trask based on tonight. Just that we probably wont get another look at him for an entire year.

    Gotta love pressure!!!

  9. mark2001 Says:

Love the plan…give Gabbert a couple series, and give the youngsters a chance to show their stuff with the second and third team players. This is what good HC’s do when they aren’t trying to evaluate if a former number one pick is capable of leading a good team to success, and acclimating a new QB to a new system, which we probably would have seen quite a bit of last year. Can’t wait see these young guys stake their claim to a spot on the team.

  10. EA Says:

Hope to see Tryon and Darden play, not sure why they are wasting time with Griffin

  11. mark2001 Says:

EA.. I think it is a matter of showing Griffin some respect for his years of service here. That being said, I don’t think Arians would mind at all if Trask could fly past him and claim the #3 spot.

  12. geno711 Says:

Griffin is earmarked for one of the 16 practice squad players this year.
He is vaccinated. He will not be picked up when the Bucs cut him in the final cut down.

He knows our system and quarterback room.

Not only does the practice squad allow 16 players because of possible Covid issues but it also allows up to 6 veterans with no limitations as to their number of earned accrued seasons.

  13. firethecannons Says:

they need to give jaelon darden the entire game

  14. gp Says:

geno hit the nail on the head

  15. Aceofaerospace Says:

Kyle Trask will shine. Yes I said it. Unfortunately for him, Ryan Griffin will be looking for work tomorrow.

  16. Cobraboy Says:

    Is Griffin still PS eligible?

  17. mark2001 Says:

This give Griffin a chance to showcase his talents this week, if not for us, as a showcase for another team. Which is a good PR move. And it allows us to control Trasks snaps and progress without playing Gabbert more, or Brady.

  18. Kentucky Buc Says:

If Griffin goes to the practice squad don’t be surprised if a division or conference rival picks him up for the info he has on the Bucs. Happens every year.

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Expansion of practice squads to 16 players, including up to six who have more than two accrued seasons.

So Griffin can be one of the six…..

  20. TheShaz Says:

I’m more interested to see if Joe Tyron takes a page from Suh and starts shoving QB’s to the ground.

  21. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

Ryan Griffin – career earnings over $8 million. Basically no wear and tear on his body. Say what you want but that is winning the bigger picture game. Even has a ring. Back-up QB is where the smart, non CTE action is.

  22. Red86 Says:

Hope they let Trask play with the ones o line.

  23. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

    EA Says
“”Hope to see Tryon and Darden play, not sure why they are wasting time with Griffin””
    ————————————————————————-
I feel the exact same way. Trask is the future, not Griffin, so let the Kid play. The way Griffin played last week, I will be surprised if he makes the team this year.
    I can’t see us keeping 4 QB’s.

  24. Oneilbuc Says:

I don’t understand why people love Griffin so much. It’s been 8 years. Trask need to be the starter tonight but I will say it again , if the media don’t pump you up then that means you ain’t a good player to a lot of fans and local media. Trask had better numbers than Trevor Lawrence and Lawrence had the all round better team. Trask was a better quarterback than Mac Jones It’s just again every body he threw to was a first round pick and no one will take nothing from him for having good players. But they take credit from him for having 2 good players while Mac Jones and Lawrence had a all around team .

  25. Jmarkbuc Says:

I think Griffin’s crap performance last week was intentional.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

Leftwich with a run up the middle to start the game!

    Mid-season form!

  27. Rod Munch Says:

    Where’s our gameday thread?!?

    Nice catch by TJ.

  28. Rod Munch Says:

Come on Barber, OJ is being molested as he’s trying to catch the ball… that’s a tough one to say it should have been caught, it would have been an amazing catch.

  29. unbelievable Says:

^ And it was actually an inch or two short since it hit the top of his helmet…

But at the same time, I kinda agree with Ronde. Make the damn catch OJ!

  30. unbelievable Says:

backup offensive line not giving us a lot to write home about so far

  31. crazybucs_CL Says:

this young bucs team looks like bucs old team 🙄🙄
    ….and trade OJ

  32. Bbro Says:

Titans 10 -Bucs 0 mid second quarter & Titans defense is dominating

  33. Oneilbuc Says:

It looks like the Bucs going to destroy Kyle Trask career as well!! I guess it’s his fault that they won’t let him play with the number 2 offense at least . If I’m Trask I would ask for a trade I know it’s just preseason but it looks bad for Trask !! He’s not getting a real shot at all to succeed so far . Gabbert is trash the only reason why he’s the number 2 is because BA is his friend. Ain’t no excuse for not developing Trask . He didn’t turnover the ball in college and noe he’s doing it in Tampa just like every young quarterback does when they come to Tampa.
