Bucs Training Camp Day 7 Practice Notes (Part I)

August 2nd, 2021

Fun stuff yesterday at One Buc Palace. Here are some highlights.

* Ronald Jones dances to the left and is stopped in his dancing shoes by Joe Tryon.

* Play of the Day: It didn’t take long for Tom Brady and Mike Evans to get on the same page. Brady launches a deep ball to Evans that appeared to be a hair too long. But the greatest receiver in Bucs history reached out with one hand, pulled the ball in and was gone. Crowd freaks out.

* On the very next play, with the crowd not yet calmed down from the Brady-to-Evans bomb, Playoff Lenny breaks through the line on the right side for a big run. Playoff Lenny gets a standing-O, in part because the fans didn’t yet sit down from the Evans’ one-handed catch.

* Good grief, Blaine Gabbert! It appeared Gabbert, with the ball deep in the offense’s end, either tried to throw a screen to the right or a throw to the right flat. But Nate Brooks read the play like a book. He in the backfield before Gabbert released the ball, and Brooks houses the pass for a pick-six.

* Gabbert then hits Jaelon Darden in traffic for a big gain down the right side.

* Brady throws to Chris Godwin who shakes defenders after the catch and races to the end zone. Crowd loves it. They are getting their money’s worth with the early offensive fireworks.

* Brady somehow gets the ball to Jaydon Mickens despite being surrounded by red (defense) jerseys.

* Travis Jonsen catches a Ryan Griffin pass over the left seam in traffic and he is clocked high and rocked as soon as he caught the ball and nearly hit the turf. But Jonsen quickly rights himself and gets a few yards of YAC.

* Kevin Minter flushes Gabbert out of the pocket to the left and Gabbert backpedals and backpedals and backpedals and the whistle blows to kill the play. Otherwise, Minter would have lit up Gabbert’s world.

* Jamel Dean goes low to break up a Kyle Trask pass intended for Tyler Johnson.

* Seven-on-seven: Brady throws wide of Evans to the left.

* Chris Godwin Special: Brady hits Godwin with a defender all over him.

* Tanner Hudson hauls in a catch over the middle from Brady despite double-coverage.

* Gabbert hits Jaelon Darden on a crossing pattern from the right.

* Gabbert is off the mark throwing to Scotty Miller who dives for the ball to no avail.

* Gabbert overthrows Darden down the right sideline. Knowing how quick Darden is, Joe has to tip his cap to Gabbert for pulling that off.

* Godwin catches a short pass to the right from Brady while in triple-coverage.

* Evans runs a slant pattern from the left side and Brady hits him in stride.

* Johnson loses Brooks and Brady finds Johnson.

* Trask connects with the immortal Cyril Grayson deep down the right sideline.

* Trask hits Jonsen over the middle in traffic and Jonsen is splashed by Bucs defenders.

* Brady hits Tyler Johnson over the middle on what Joe refers to as a Parcells Thrown. Bill Parcells used to teach his quarterbacks that when they threw over the middle to throw low as it cuts down on the chances of the pass being picked and that a good receiver has no problem going low to dig the ball up. And we all know where Brady’s former coach came from.

* Rob Gronkowski makes it look so easy at times. He runs a down-and-out down the right seam with Brady at quarterback and honestly, Carlton Davis had no shot.

* Hudson catches a pass from Brady over the middle. Lavonte David went for the pick and was just a hair too late.

* Coverage sack on Brady and he boots the ball onto Field No. 2 in frustration.

* Brady to Darden on the left sideline.

* Looked like Gabbert was trying to throw the ball away (?) down the left sideline and he’s damn lucky it wasn’t housed.

* Gabbert tries to hit Darden deep over the middle and it’s a bit too far out in front. Ross Cockrell and Cameron Kinley both pop Darden to break up the play and remind him they’re on shore patrol back there.

* Griffin tries a pass over the middle and it is broken up by Grant Stuard.

* Griffin throws a pretty pass to T.J. Simmons to the right.

* Griffin bobbles the snap and sits and sits and sits in the pocket before throwing the ball away.

* Herb Miller had a pick of a Gabbert pass but he dropped it.

* Tip drill! A Griffin pass is tipped and Jonsen races in to try to save the pass. He got it but not before the ball hit the ground.

* Really nice pass by Griffin. He is pressured but buys time and he throws down the middle as he is falling backward and Josh Pearson, running down the middle, catches the pass just after he steps over the goal line.

  1. Medicated Pete Says:

No WR’s should be diving for sh*tty passes thrown by Gabbert or Kyle

  2. Mike Says:

    Good job, Joes!

  3. Buczilla Says:

I love a lot of things about JoeBucsFan, but these snippets are right at the top. It’s like an attractive woman giving you a wink or a smile, but not stopping to talk (before I was married, I am madly in love with my wife). Such a tease. Start already season!

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Do we have 143 WRs?

  5. BucsFanSince1976 Says:

Trask had better learn all he can as quickly as he can , God forbid TB12 goes down , because gabbert hasn’t got it and never will.

  6. Mort Says:

A Grant Stuard sighting! It only took a week!

  7. PSL Bob Says:

Reading from your notes over the last week or so, I’d say Gabbert is not fit to be #2 on the QB depth chart. I’d let Griffin fill that role and put Gabbert out to pasture where he belongs.

  8. Long John Says:

Joe could ya add some info on line play?

  9. firethecannons Says:

    Blaine Gabbert is hot garbage!
