Bruce Arians Expects A Bruising Week

August 16th, 2021

Bruce Arians ready for Mike Vrabel and the Titans.

So, the second-last week of training camp begins this afternoon at One Buc Palace.

It is currently the only afternoon practice scheduled. Of course, these things can change with a snap of the finger.

Later in the week, Wednesday, the Titans are scheduled in town for two days of controlled scrimmages. Then Saturday, the Bucs will host the Titans in the second of three preseason games.

Yesterday in a zoom conference call in his day-after-game presser, Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians hinted that he doesn’t know how many snaps the starters will see Saturday because he expects the Titans practices to be very physical.

And that’s just the way Arians wants it.

“It’s great to go up against different people, especially teams that are physical,” Arians said. “I really look forward to it. Mike [Vrabel] and I have a great agreement that neither one of us condones fighting. There’s not going to be any of that kind of crap.

“I think the physicality of those two practices will probably determine whether or not we play anybody in this game because I don’t want them to hitting Wednesdays and Thursdays and then going back and hitting again on Saturday. We’ll wait and see on that part.”

So if Joe can read between the lines, it seems like a lot of bubble guys will get a lot of work in the preseason game on Saturday.

No one has told Joe this but just a hunch that Ryan Griffin and Kyle Trask will get most of the snaps at quarterback. Arians has already said he pretty much knows about 35 or so guys who will make the team.

The guys you know will make it, as Arians suggested, no reason to get those guys beat up three times in five days. Let the bubble guys demonstrate whose is the toughest.

If I were Griffin, I’d make sure my lease was month to month

Ryan Griffin’s own family must be like “Man, this guy sucks but we’re living in a gated community & driving Range Rovers so who cares”

The 3rd preseason game gives us a short week before the Thursday Dallas game…..so if our starters are going to get any work, it needs to be this week.Weather may be a factor this week.

Always thought Griffin was better than Gabbert but the first preseason game said different. He really stunk. Let him hang around just in case of injury and then cut him.

RG can get cut today and still be set for life. More than most of us can say.

I guess I am in the minority in thinking Gabbert was not that great on Saturday. Definitely better than Griffin (I think Medicated Pete might be better than what Griffen showed us, at least more entertaining…).

But if it were me, I would have Trask #2 in playing time. Those are very valuable reps. We need to see Trask grow, IF he has it in him. Everyone knows what Gabbert has.

    @Senor Harry

Pete has a cannon. Played shortstop & pitcher his whole life but peaked at age 21 & now is a loser

Medicated Pete 😅🤣😂 when someone can poke fun at themselves!

IMO- Trask looked better than Gabbert and Griffin looked awful. Every other pass from Gabbert was crazy off the mark. I think we should go with 2 QBs this year.

Isn’t there about 10 days from last preseason game to opener? Should be plenty.

I heard on the radio that the Bucs cut that Navy Guy, who got a special exemption so he could play Football.
Tennessee is a very very physical team, with a bruising running back.
I am hoping to see more from Kyle Trask in this game.
Darden impressed me, as did Joe Tryon, so together with Trask, it looks like another stellar draft for us!

  13. PSL Bob Says:

I wish they’d let Trask play with the 2nd string offense (assuming the 1st string will sit) and see how he does with some of his long throws. A few of those completions will elevate support among both coaches and fans.

  14. Bird Says:

Give brady more then one series but i am cool if he doesnt go entire quarter.
And give trask the majority of snaps with at least second team guys

No need to see Griffin. That performance on Saturday was
    Enough for the year

Glad to see these guys hit others for a change. I agree it could be more valuable then limited snaps in preseason. And titans are a good physical team on both sides of the ball

  15. Pine Hillse] Says:

Seeing as Dak isn’t going to play this preseason either … no need to risk Brady.
    At least Brady can practice.

10 days rest before game 2 helps also.
Playing a crap defense like Dallas in the opener sit are starters for 4th quarter.

Cut Gabbert period then Griffin in that order.
