Tampa Dive Team Prepared For “Tom Brady Toss”

July 12th, 2021

A repeat of the “Brady Toss?”

Blame Tom Brady.

The Tampa Bay Lightning today return to where it all started. And where the Bucs made it famous.

That’s a championship boat parade.

After just capturing back-to-back Stanley Cup Championships, the Lightning will celebrate with fans in their second boat parade in as many years. Last year, as the pandemic (in Florida) was just beginning to wind down, the Lightning won their second Stanley Cup and had a boat parade because of social distancing.

It was a raucous, beer-swilling event. And it was so good, when the Bucs won the Super Bowl, they decided to copy what the Lightning started.

The Bucs made massive headlines for making the boat parade look like a giant rap video with bikini babes all dancing on boats while everyone it seemed from Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht to the players got hammered on mass-produced macro beer headquartered in St. Louis.

Of course, the highlight of the parade still being shown on social media was tequila-infused Tom Brady brazenly tossing the Vince Lombardi Trophy from his boat to Cam Brate’s boat.

Brate may have made the catch of his life.

In the immediate moments after the Lightning clinched the Stanley Cup, already the Brady references were flooding Twitter. And even Brady had fun with it.

In the weeks after the Super Bowl boat parade, the Bucs said had the Lombardi trophy been dropped in the drink, they would have just ordered a new one rather than have the original fished out of the Hillsborough River.

Tampa police’s dive team has other plans for today, if someone tries the Brady Toss. Per Beau Zimmer of WTSP-TV Channel 10, the dive team will be at the ready should Stanley go swimming solo.

In fact, members of the Tampa Police Dive team tell 10 Tampa Bay they will be on standby should anything happen to the Cup. Law enforcement will be escorting the trophy along the entire parade route and members of the dive team have been assigned to keep an eye on the Stanley Cup at all times.

“It’s a lot easier to find if you see exactly where it drops into the water,” said Officer Chris Audet with the Tampa Police Dive Team.

Interestingly, as part of security at the Bucs’ boat parade, Audet was driving a TPD boat next to Brady’s rig when the Brady Toss happened.

“I saw the whole thing,” said Officer Audet. “After I let out an expletive, I turned around, the trophy went, I said ‘man, that was epic.’”

So, what are the odds that topless, beer-chugging Lightning right wing Nikita Kucherov tries the Brady Toss with the Cup? Joe wouldn’t put it past him.

And that’s not “No. 1 bullsh!t.

Can’t have a championship parade without a trophy toss!

  6. PSL Bob Says:

Don’t do the toss. It’s been done. Besides, that thing weighs almost 35 lb., compared with the 7 lb Lombardi trophy. Someone on the receiving end could get seriously hurt. But with both beer and adrenaline flowing you just know it’s going to happen!

  7. Bojim Says:

Look at the girl behind him. “Are you crazy?”

  8. BucsFanSeffner Says:

@Bojim Isn’t that his daughter? I know she was yelling “No, Daddy!” when he threw it. She’s only about 10, but she was the smartest person on the boat in that moment, lol.

  9. Eddie Marz Says:

Funny stuff, but when you WIN you can get away with all kinds of nonsense. GO BUCS! Do it again, just like The Lightning!👍😆🙏

  10. SlyPirate Says:

    Wouldn’t the Stanley Cup float?
