It’s All About Points

July 5th, 2021

Special Bucs offense.

You want to know why Joe is geeked for this season. Consider how damn good the Bucs offense was.

Last year the Bucs were the No. 1 team in points scored in the regular season and the playoffs (combined). The Bills were No. 2, in part, because their offense didn’t do much in the AFC title game and only played 19 games.

The Bucs finished with 615 points. The Bills had 569.

Of the teams with the five most points scored last season, the Bucs punked three of them on their road to winning the Super Bowl (Green Bay, Kansas City and New Orleans).

So not only were the Bucs running up points, the Bucs defense took the will away from other high-scoring offenses.

How’s that for a friggin’ good team?

And just think, park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, Bucs-Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady is going to know the playbook for a full season.

And the Bucs have O.J. Howard returning.

And Antonio Brown for a full season.

This should be a scary good offense.

For those who grew up watching the Bucs in the pre-Chucky days, this seems like a dream.

Do you think 700 points are possible this season? That and if the defense can keep other teams under 20 and the offense gotta score much more than 27 points in two games against the Aints! Offense gotta score early and all game long and don’t let up!

This defense could also be scary good!!!

Reggie White and a few others had great seasons at DL when older than Suh. Suh takes care of himself and now he has Vea to eat up the middle with him.

How good can Vea be in the very middle?

How good can D White be in the very middle?

How good can Antoine Winfield be in the very middle.

This D is scary good right up the middle and not bad on the edges and if Tryon can play some meaningful snaps to spread wear and tear on JPP and Shaq…

If C. Davis simply holds form it’s all good…if he improves another 5% we’ll have an elite cover corner to go with some opportunistic talent in SMB and Jamel Dean is an excellent 3rd DB.

What happens if Bowles and the guys get so confident that he feels free to send the dogs after QB’s with blitzes from all over the place? Think how many guys we have who can get to the QB?

Maybe if the D plays lights out…and the offense rolls up the scoreboard..Brady and some of our other elder statesmen can watch the wrapup from the sidelines. Less wear and tear and Trask can get some playing time.

All we have to do is go 1-0. 20 times. Lets Go!!!

Don’t forget the addition of Giovanni Bernard to the offense……the third down back is an important piece….

I have anticipated every season since ’76 with a great deal of optimism. Never, not even the ’02 season, have I had more reason for that optimism.
One game at a time, this has the makings of a truly historic season!

Unless there is an injury, Trask will be inactive most of the season.
If the D remains healthy and Bucs’ offense doesn’t turn it over, 25 points per game will be plenty…

I wouldn’t want to be born into life post Gruden.

I get it now. I can forget and look forward to the next year. I don’t don’t wanna forget last year but I will.
