Likely The Bucs All Along

July 2nd, 2021

Another educated guess.

It’s been a week since Tom Brady used the infamous word “motherf@cker” to describe a lesser quarterback of a team that was toying with signing Brady.

Heavy-metal headbanging Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports tried his hand in the NFL Summer of 2021 parlor game known as “Guess What Quarterback Brady Cussed.”

In the end, however, La Canfora thinks the Bucs were the favorite to land Brady all along.

Of course, Brady wasn’t going to end up in any situation he didn’t want to be in. No one was going to talk him into going someplace he didn’t want to be. It’s not all about money in this rare case — which helped foster the Patriots dynasty — and Brady was going to be very particular about who he chose to relaunch his career with. Weather and geography and lifestyle would all matter.

It’s hard to believe many other teams could have offered Brady what the Bucs had: Weather. Geography. Lifestyle. And most important for Brady, the Bucs offered more weapons than the Taliban.

Interestingly, La Canfora threw out a team that may have been the target of Brady’s ire. The Rams and Jared Goff. You don’t hear of too many people connecting those dots.

What makes you think he was refering to a “lesser” QB?
    Aren’t they all lesser QBs?–Joe

  2. Chris K Says:

Aren’t they all lesser QB’s? Ummmm. Duh!

I still say Dollfins. As La Canfora said, TB was not going someplace that did not fit perfectly: a talented team, weather, lifestyle. Giselle and TB LOVE Miami – OBVIOUSLY, since they now are building a home there. TB knows the coach very well, weather is great, and a lifestyle like Tampa. And the Dollfins are like the Bucs, lots of talent and – at that time (still?) – no QB. To me, at that time, they make a perfect match just as the Bucs proved to be (SB!!!!!). MIA needed (s?) a QB, TB wants talent.

But Owner Ross was FIXATED on drafting a QB (like the Glazers when they fired Jonny boy) – more so than how TB might take the Fins to a SB. So Ross would have explored it, but likely would have said his team is not interested. And TB would have looked at Fitz and said “WTF”?.

  4. Hodad Says:

Don’t see how it could be the Rams since he stated he wanted to be close to his son who lives in NY.

  5. sgrd0q Says:

The Bucs all along for the offensive weapons and the talent all around. Lifestyle, east coast, taxes, weather did not matter at all, in my opinion.

  6. Cobraboy Says:

He needed a Plan B in case the Bucs gig fell through. No surprise here.

  7. PSL Bob Says:

Harry in Costa Rica, I respect your analysis, but no way the Dolphins had the talent to get to the SB, even with Brady at the helm. Flores had only been the coach for a year, and even though TB was familiar with him, it wasn’t in the role as head coach. The Dolphins were in the building stage, and I don’t think that’s what TB wanted to insert himself into.

Goff is a scrub imo, and has been the weak link on that team for a while. I think Brady would have liked to work with McVay and he’s a Cali boy at heart. Brady with the Rams would have probably turned out the same way it did here. Probably with a few less growing pains. Luckily LA chose to suffer one more year with Goff, but I see them as the number one threat to an NFC repeat.

  9. SB Says:

    It was San Fran guys.

  10. August 1976 Buc Says:

One thing is for sure, Brady had scouted the Bucs for quite some time. We know he scouted a handful of teams in all.
Godwin could not even believe Brady knew who he was. This had nothing to do with money, the Bucs checked all the boxes for Tom.

And the now the biggest box checked so far for Brady as a Buc is he is QB for the current World Champs. lol lol
Read that and weep NFL ha ha ha!!!

The next box to check is an 8th Super Bowl win

GO BIG BAD AZZ WORLD CHAMPION BUCS!!!!!

  11. Buc50 Says:

To me I would think it’s the Dolphins or Tennessee. I have a lot of respect for Tannehill because he changed positions and has turned out to be pretty proficient QB so I would lean Dolphins.

  12. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

PSL Bob, Thank you, I always respect your comments and opinions. But I would counter that:

    1) prior to Brady coming to the Bucs, if anyone had said that the Bucs have the talent to get to the SB, they would have laughed at you.

    2) Chargers were on the list. Yes, TB was alleged to have wanted a CA team and location was a factor. But prior to drafting Herbert, no one thought the Chargers had that much talent either – it took getting a decent QB. If the Chargers would not have had the injuries they did last year, it is arguable they would have made the playoffs.

And lets remember, all we are talking about is Brady “window shopping” for teams. I would still have the Dolphins as a team TB would talk to, and that is all we are talking about, having a dialog. And Fitz is a definite possibility as that “MF”

This story is starting to rival the coverage for where Jimmy Hoffa is buried.

This is seriously sad that this is still a topic for discussion. I don’t understand why this was even interesting for more than one day.

  15. Winny Testaverde Says:

I frankly have found this story very interesting during a lull ( Enter In The Current series )…especially since it had the best happy ending since Robert Kraft’s parlor visit. 🙂

I believe it was San Fran…although the Rams are an interesting afterthought. They beat The Bucs straight up at Ray Jay…and will be a tough out in 2021.

  16. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

^^^I am with Winny. I don’t know what you others might expect to read about during an extremely slow NFL news time of the year

  17. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I still think it was San Francisco that he was talking about, because Brady is from Northern California, and knows that motherf@cker Jimmy Garappolo from New England.

This story is starting to rival the coverage for where Jimmy Hoffa is buried.

Jimmy Hoffa was taken from Machus Red Fox in Bloomfield Hill’s, Michigan.
A restaurant that I worked for in the 1970’s. They had the one restaurant in Bloomfield Hills and another in Birmingham, MI along with a bakery. Many of the employees of that business had “European” backgrounds. Hoffa was taken by members of the Genovese Crime family.

  19. Curse of Gruden Says:

Isn’t Jimmy Hoffa living in Del Boca Vista Phase 3 in Palm Beach?

^^^ Geno, those are the kind of stories that make life interesting.

I have a cousin who grew up with the guys that they made Goodfellas about. He was close friends with them and told me the real story.

Also my mother in-law as a kid grew up during prohibition. Grandma was a boot-legger and Grandpa ran numbers. There was NO “depression” for their family – they thried. Awesome stories
