Team Glazer Rewards Jason Licht, Bruce Arians

Regular readers know Joe has a simple philosophy: Don’t fix what’s not broken.

And when you win a Super Bowl, things aren’t broken.

With that in mind, Team Glazer rewarded Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht and Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians with new contracts that give them a raise, and for Licht an extension, too.

Ian Rapoport of NFL.com has the intel.

Terms and specifics are not yet announced. What is interesting is that Arians, 68, must have found the same fountain of youth that park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, Bucs-Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady, soon to be 44, has found in Florida.

What is intriguing to Joe is that Arians has said he wasn’t sure how much longer he will coach if he loses his trusted assistants.

So could offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich or defensive coordinator Todd Bowles be working on a future contract with the Bucs to be a “coach-in-waiting” to succeed Arians someday in order to keep one or the other (or both) around?

How did BA NOT get coach of the year?

  6. SlyPirate Says:

Beej … Probably the same reason TB12 didn’t get MVP.

Let There Be Licht! One of the biggest outhouse to penthouse stories in NFL history for a GM.

Love that pic, especially Licht chugging down his beer!

  11. BA4President Says:

We just need to keep BA’s health at that C+ grade he’s told us about. When he said he was at peace with the idea of croaking on the sidelines, I don’t think he was kidding.

  12. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

The 6 year old is back.

  13. Cobraboy Says:

Why would Bowles & Leftwich sign an asst. contract extension/promotion if Arians was not the HC?

Why would Arians sign of Licht wasn’t the GM?

    IMO, it’s all connected…

I can’t recall a happier, more harmonious front office & coaching staff in the NFL.

  14. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I always liked Jason Licht, even when we were not winning.
I bet he would be a blast to sit at a Bar and drink beer with.
He has come a very long way as a GM.

  15. SOEbuc Says:

Awesome! Who the hell knows how long Brady will want to stay cus he was looking opposite of downhill in 2020. Let’s get the dynasty started!

  16. JimmyJack Says:

Chris@Apple…..I really dont think Licht is the type to sit and drink beer. Look at that picture. He has it pointed straight to the sky buddy.

Im guessing Licht is a guzzler. Thats my kind of guy.

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Arians, 68, must have found the same fountain of youth

Yep…..ye ol’ fountain of youth….you can see BA & Licht chugging them down….

    Fountains of Bud Lichts

  18. SOEbuc Says:

Clyde could slide into OC. Bruce went and made a bunch of calls to gather great coaches he’s seen in his long NFL career. Nice move to keep the coaching krew together.

  19. BucEmUp Says:

I remember when Jason licht was “the worst gm innthe nfl” and : soon the truth will come out and the sheep will SEE THE LICHT!!!!!!!” LMAO

Im ready for one of the good ol Realist Re-posts!!!!!

  20. PSL Bob Says:

    1) Rappaport didn’t imply that Arians got a contract extension.
    2) The Glazers better tag either BL or Bowles to succeed Arians. No way both will stick around till Arians retires, particularly if the Bucs bring home another SB trophy. I hope BL is tagged for the post-Arians gig.
    3) Arians and Licht better have a plan for post-Brady, and Licht better have a plan for post-Arians.

  21. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Maybe now these guys can afford a decent beer instead of that swill.

  22. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

    Touchdown Tampa Bay!!!!!

    Fantástico!!!!

  23. Pine Hills Says:

Here’s an insane idea: make Leftwitch head coach of offense with veto powers and Bowles head coach of defense but not the same veto power.
Lay off the hate bombs, just a thought.

….that shall be “securing the future”. i hope they are thinking and considering a form of offer, to keep TB12 here years to come. In the same time I hope TB12 is interested to stay in football business, not only as a player.
    — $70 mill he is about to make this year….. kind of hard to beat that…..

“….2) The Glazers better tag either BL or Bowles to succeed Arians….”

calm down; non of them are HC material. One was and failed miserably. The other one is a joke, not much different then Rahim Morris.
So no worries, be happy for the present, TB12 is here.

  29. Rod Munch Says:

The Athletic is also saying Arians just got a raise, he didn’t get extended. Licht got an extension and a raise.

So as far as Arians goes, I think he’s staying for this year and next year, then if Brady extends for another year beyond that, I’d assume he’d be back since I can’t see the Glazers and Brady wanting to have a new HC stepping in, even if it’s Bowles, or God-forbid Leftwich. Leftwich is way too conservative without Arians pushing him to open things up, and I think him as HC, in particular if he’s also the OC, would be a dictator. Bowles might be the better choice, but he’s also had his shot and didn’t do much with it, but you could say the same thing about Belichick as well before the Pats. Not comparing them, just saying don’t put him on the trash-heap just because he wasn’t all the great first time around.

  31. August 1976 Buc Says:

Well the UNPRECEDENTED OFFSEASON CONTINUES, Bringing back both Starting units, Offense and Defense in the free agency era, and now the GM and Coach are included in the SPOILS OF VICTORY.

I was watching a video about the 1970 Boston Bruins with Bobby Orr and Phil Esposito winning the Stanley Cup, and I got to thinking about the Bucs being at the height of their organizations 47+ year history. (Franchise awarded in 1974) I was thinking how in 5 or 10 years looking back at this time, and really appreciatiating it. This is the “Glory years” for this team. They are 1 year into it, who knows how long this run will go 1-3 years or maybe more who knows. I hope they can continue after Brady but again that remains to be seen. But it sure is a blast being a Bucs fan now in the GLORY YEARS of the franchise.

BTW Joe, keep up the Moniker Mania, your model of a blog is working just fine. IMO This sight is by far and away the go to site for Bucs news, hands down. Joe you have “Seal Clubbed” and “Curb Stomped” your way to the top of the various Bucs Blogs that people are putting on the internet. GO JBF!!

GO WORLD CHAMPION BIG BAD AZZ BUCS!!!
