Devin White Had A Historic Postseason

June 18th, 2021

Franchise record-holder.

Joe is only half-serious with the following line.

The way Bucs linebacker Devin White played in the postseason after testing positive for The Sickness, he should be shot up with the virus once a month.

White missed the final week of the season and the first playoff game against Washington as he had to sit out two weeks after testing positive for COVID. Once he returned against the Saints, White played like a wildman possessed.

While the Bucs don’t have a rich history of postseason play, they’ve had a couple of linebackers who were pretty damn good. You may have heard of them. Derrick Brooks of course, the greatest living Buccaneers player, and more recently Lavonte David, who finally played his first playoff games last winter and was excellent.

But White may have shown up both Brooks and David.

Per Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports, in White’s three postseason games played, he holds the top-three Bucs’ franchise records for most tackles in a playoff game by a linebacker.

Joe has already documented that White played better in his first postseason than Ray Lewis did in his.

If White can continue that level of play, the Bucs have the next Ray Lewis.

So you finally get it Joe. A great MLB is more important then a great edge rusher. Control the middle of the field, or one side of it? There’s been some good D ends on bad defenses, but you ever notice a bad defense with a good MLB? If we can put White up there with Lewis, Singletary, Nickerson, we’ll have a top five defense for years to come.

  2. August 1976 Buc Says:

If his numbers are better than R Lewis so far, then the Bucs have the first Devin White lol Sorry Ray.
Ray proved it out over his career, we will see what D White does, but wow, he was shot out of a cannon, when he stepped on the field in Nawlins, along with his Angry Run Interception of D Brees that was highlighted by the NFL Network.

    GO BUCS!!!!

  3. Bird Says:

    no Morning cup today?

Hodad is spot on: “A great MLB is more important then a great edge rusher. Control the middle of the field, or one side of it?”

What makes White different is that, discovered by accident or intended design, this guy can rush the passer better than any MLB of recent memory. He makes the Edge Rushers better.

On passing downs, OCs across the league are now asking WWDD?

  6. Guzzie Says:

4.4 speed and elite instincts, he is the complete package

  7. Lord Cornelius Says:

What happened to Realist or Tmax lol

  8. Steven007 Says:

Lord, those trolls checked out the moment we fielded an entertaining and competitive team. Confirmed trolls by subtraction.

  9. Mike Says:

He is on a great upward trajectory. Much like Brooks, he came in with speed and great instincts, and over time, he will get better and better in pass coverage.

  10. Jeff Says:

He’s way more talented than Brooks.

  11. Bucs Bro Says:

Just a reminder that Clueless Joe missed badly on his take about drafting White.

  12. ir8oldman Says:

    Lavonte David is mentally weak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That’s for those who miss certain trolls… you’re welcome.

  13. SB Says:

Nice touch with the !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!s @Ir8

  14. Rico 210 Says:

    @Ir8… you got me dying🤣😂🤣
    Go Bucs

  15. NashvilleBuc Says:

While watching In the Current last night it occurred to me there is a story to be told about 45 and 54. Reversed numbers, opposite communication styles, even their body language is polar-opposite. They’re like the Odd Couple of linebackers.

  16. Joe Says:

So you finally get it Joe. A great MLB is more important then a great edge rusher.

Maybe if you are stuck in the 1960s.

Joe knows of no one who works or used to work in football that would push that nonsense.

    1,000,000 percent correct Joe…

No pass rush and MLB’s get eaten for lunch by a competant QB’s PERIOD.
NO pass Rush and The Bucs are not world Champions right now.

GO BIG BAD AZZ WORLD CHAMPION BUCS!!!!!

  18. SB Says:

So pick#5 overall was too high Joe????

  19. Bucs Bro Says:

I won’t say MLB is more important than a pass rush. But I will gladly say Clueless Joe was wrong about drafting a MLB so high. White is special man, the film don’t lie.

  20. August 1976 Buc Says:

SB… Devin White was a great pick, that is indisputable by anyone. But it is the pass rushers that get the bigger paychecks, after the QB’s.
With that said, D White is on a path to make some serious coin.

    GO BUCS!!

  21. Swampbuc Says:

    Let’s GOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

  22. Kobe Faker Says:

“Devin White is heading toward the HOF

funny thing is only Kobe knows what DW does best

DW is best as a pass rusher and will break the sack total if the opportunity

    DW is unblockable

DW is 5′ 10 so old school coaches and mentality wont allow him to do so

they say you have to have long arms and at least 6’5

    Kobe begs to differ

Kobe Faker is a proponent for small packages”

  23. Rod Munch Says:

The Bucs 2002 defense was so good they got the other team off the field in 3 plays most of the time, so it didn’t really give you the chance to rack up huge tackle numbers.

White played great, and if he can learn how to pass cover he’ll be an all-pro level LB for a long time. But even if he can’t learn to pass cover, who cares, we know he can run downhill fast and make tackles, so just use him that way. If they used him to blitz more he could be a 10-sack guy, in addition to all those tackles, and then you have David to cover while, hopefully, they start to groom another guy.

  24. #1bucsfan Says:

I would have taken DW with the #1 pick in the draft. Give it a few more years and y’all will see why if you don’t already. He will only get better. Ray Lewis who jk I live ray Lewis. His speeches gets the city motivated to play. I think he will be better than Lewis and MR. Patrick Willis.

  25. Duane Says:

DWhite is the Sheriff that regulates all the traffic that gets through the line, and he isnt letting anyone through. Im optimistic about his future, and realistic. Too hard to compare his game to anyone because we saw it change, and in fact gear up as the season went on. He is a TFL machine. He is now using that speed to cut angles on passing routes, and to get to the qb. If he plays like we have seen, im not sure we even need to compare him to anyone else. I think he is unique.

  26. fern Says:

    He is faster than Ray

  27. Buczilla Says:

Crazy stat, I would have bet that Brooks would have been in their somewhere. White is the real deal.

  28. Chris K Says:

But but but but but but but….. Josh Allen

  29. SB Says:

Basically it was White or Josh Allen.
    Licht made the right choice!

  30. SB Says:

LOL I didn’t see what you put up before I posted Chris K
Great minds and all I guess.

  31. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Now, this site is humming! Missing trolls. Check! Lively fan debates. Check!

And, oh! by the way, the Bucs are THE SUPER BOWL champs.

  32. MarkRIf Says:

The very reason that White IS such a great MLB is because no one else in the league at his inside position is fast and athletic enough to pass rush and guard the outside as well as he does.
