Rooting For Chris Godwin

May 12th, 2021

A second football career?

After reading the following item last night, Joe has a hunch that broadcasting is in Chris Godwin’s future.

Anyone can pick up that Godwin is a sharp guy and very articulate.

Most players who make a ton of cash — like Godwin will this year, and next year with whatever team signs him — generally don’t go into coaching college or NFL ball because they have socked plenty of their millions away.

Coaching is crazy long hours. In-season, those are 16- or 18-hour days. Maybe longer. For those who retired with millions invested, it’s way too much work for the salary (unless you are a coordinator or a head coach).

It’s a big reason why Derrick Brooks isn’t coaching. He’s got many business interests and doesn’t have the crazy hours away from his family.

So why is Joe calling Godwin’s shot? It seems Adam Rank of NFL.com put together a list of players fans should root for. Godwin was there because he gave Rank football advice before last season and virtually everything Godwin told him came true.

I also did a fan event with Chris last August and he was super cool, as well. Actually, it was a fantasy football event. And Chris had great insight on his Bucs teammates and some former Penn State guys, as you would expect. But he had a great grasp on the rest of the league, too. He called Calvin Ridley’s breakout, so I have to give him his due respect. Not only is he great at his job — he’s kind of better than me at mine.

Well, accurate analysis of players not even on his team tells Joe that Godwin knows what he is talking about.

Given Godwin’s smooth delivery and football smarts, something tells Joe we will hear and see more of Godwin when he’s finished scoring touchdowns.

Joe doesn’t even want to think of a Bucs team without Chris Godwin.

Smart players realize that they can not thrive in every scheme. I think that’s why CG will stay here

Lol, I just read that Rank article this morning. Seems like a hell of a good dude and wise beyond his years. If Godwin stays healthy for the entire year, plus leads us in receptions, yards, and touchdowns, I see no way that we let him walk. However, if he plays second fiddle to Mike again I can’t see paying him 20 plus million per year like they are giving lesser players like Keenan Allen. If the cap goes way up then maybe, but would we risk upsetting Evans?

Great point about great players going into coaching. Google 55’s and 99’s net worth. The later is not cut out for it a blew is on camera gig

Except for the millionaire part, this is exactly why I did not go into coaching after my 3-year grad asst. stint. In college, add to the work pile that all coaches have to recruit, which means driving to backwater towns, sleeping in Motel 6’s, and pretending you reallyreallyreally care about some parent’s or mom’s spawn.

Waaaay too much work and many hours with slim rewards…except you don’t have to go out into the *real* world and become a normal human.

Bought his jersey last year. Thought for sure I’d jinx him, but it all worked out. Hope he remains a Buc for a long time. They need to start working on his contract now!

    Love our “homegrown” supertalented players…CG14, ME13, AM74, LD54, DW45, TW78, VV50, AC65, DS76, etc… So much talent on this roster is unbelievable!!!

  8. David Says:

They must sign him to a long-term deal next year. I think we will see Evans restructure in order to do it. I want to see that tandem last until Evans retires

  9. Swampbuc Says:

Think about our WR duo. Outstanding players, even better humans. Who woodathunkit from a WR tandem?!

If 2021 goes well for the Bucs…Godwin will cash in on a long-term deal, but I doubt that would be w/ Tampa.

TB12 is on his retirement tour…The Bucs roster will have some serious turn-over next off-season…(Across the board)…Godwin is no sure thing for signing w/ Bucs – without knowing how good his QB will be for the duration of his next deal. (& that QB is not TB12!)

  11. Buckaroo Boozie Says:

    TB12 will play till he’s 50 just to break Blanda’s record…
