Dominant Young Talent

May 28th, 2021

Gets props.

This ought to scare the hell out of the NFL. Every team but the Bucs.

Over at CBS Sports, Cody Benjamin decided to pick the top-25 players under 25. And who woulda guessed that 12 percent of the players on that list are Bucs?

Below are the players and where they ranked:

21. Buccaneers S Antoine Winfield Jr. (22)
He’s got room to improve, and his size (5-9, 203) will always be something to keep an eye on. But he sure didn’t play like a rookie in 2020, bringing both confidence and toughness to Tampa Bay’s secondary. He’s an early fan favorite for a reason.

19. Buccaneers ILB Devin White (23)
No one ever doubted his athleticism, but under Todd Bowles’ watch in 2020, White emerged as more of a legitimate chess piece for a championship defense. Nine sacks and 140 tackles as an inside linebacker? It helps he plays alongside such a solid core, but the pieces are there for him to become a decade-long staple.

12. Buccaneers OT Tristan Wirfs (22)
Rookie tackles don’t always fare well out of the gate, but Wirfs was an absolute anchor on a line that helped keep Tom Brady upright for yet another Super Bowl run. The Iowa product used his mammoth size to his advantage, never once missing a snap on the right side, and has the upside to be one of the NFL’s best at his position for the next decade or so.

No other NFL team had as many young players on Benjamin’s list. And the Bucs just won the freaking Super Bowl!

Where’s Chris Godwin you asked? He just missed because he’s too much of an old f@rt. Ronald Jones made the “just missed” list.

This is the kind of info that keeps Joe up at night. In a good way.

Howard is pretty sure Brady did some kind of ceremony where he tapped Wirfs on the shoulder with an ancient sword and Wirfs eyes started to glow and after that Wirfs was the best RT in the league.

No other explanation for a rookie to play that good.

I mean sure he could jump out of shoulder deep water but he
needed that cosmic connection through the Brady conduit

  2. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

    Good job Joe!
    Thanks

  3. Flying Dutchman Says:

These guys will carry Brady’s legacy a decade from now.

  4. August 1976 Buc Says:

Wirfs has said when he got to the Bucs, the first thing on his mind was “I just did not want to make Tom Mad and yell at me” Combined with his talent and the fire lit under him by Brady and you have an all pro RT for the next decade. GO BUCS!!!!

  5. Bruce Blahak Says:

The tide has turned. The football gods are Buc fans now lol. Bucs had 2 glaring holes last year and Wirfs and Winfield filled those as instant stars. What a haul!

  6. 2021 Year of the GOAT Says:

    compliments to player evaluations

  7. Leighroy Says:

The disrespect of Devin White continues. Brian Burns, some bungles safety no one outside of Cincinnati has heard of, and Roquan Smith ranked higher on this list. Outrageous!

  8. Bird Says:

White should be lower but all good

More disrespect to give the man something to be angry about.

  9. Mike Says:

    Metcaf was ranked too high!

  10. Bucfanforever Says:

    Carlton Davis

  11. Kalind Says:

No vita????! It’s an outrage! It’s a scandal!

  12. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

Ref AWinfield.., “and his size (5-9, 203) will always be something to keep an eye on.” Moronic statement. It isn’t going to change therefore why does anyone need to keep an eye on it?

  13. SB~LV Says:

Should line him up on punt and FG block team , Wirf and VV side by side with a speedster shooting the gap

  14. Swampbuc Says:

Cody Benjamin was dropped on his head as an infant and is a known drooler. Otherwise, he is an idiot.

  15. Buczilla Says:

It’s nice to see some of our guys get on anyone’s list in the national media. The fact that this buffoon put Fred Warner, Chase Young, and A.J. flipping Brown ahead of any of our guys is utter nonsense and makes this list useless. The guy has a right to his opinion obviously, but when it is so outlandish, I gotta rip em.

  16. DirtyBucs Says:

Vea is probably the most underrated player in the NFL. He’s such a stud on the field. God willing, he will be healthy for the whole season. If that happens, and the rest of the front 7 can stay in the lineup as well, this defense will be legendary.

Justin and Tyler are too high on that list. Most of it is debatable but it’s a fun little top 25 yr old payer list. Lists always get us fans passionate I know what they are and I still look for my Bucs and get pissed if they aren’t ranked where they should be.
