“We Will Be Better”

April 20th, 2021

Buckle up

Joe was really stoked listening to Mike Evans.

Yesterday, of course, was the golf tournament for Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians’ foundation. And a bunch of Bucs arrived to help raise money for Arians, including star receiver Mike Evans.

Though he admitted his body was more sore than usual after winning the Super Bowl and a four-game postseason, Evans said being a Super Bowl champ is a dream. But watch out, he said, the Bucs aren’t finished.

Evans believes the Bucs can be better, he told Casey Phillips of Buccaneers.com,

“Because you don’t get to do this often,” Evans responded when asked about all 22 starters returning and why. “This doesn’t happen often. We have all the Super Bowl stars coming back. I feel like we will be better in all facets next year. And I am really excited.”

Phillips then asked Evans why so many guys decided to return as opposed to being content with getting a ring and going elsewhere to cash out. Evans said it is the character of the roster, and that is one reason why he’s so excited.

“We have so many guys that are selfless,” Evans said. “Guys who are taking less money just to try to win. You can’t pay for Super Bowl championships. That’s the goal.

“You play to try to win the Super Bowl. And that’s what we are trying to do.”

Evans may be onto something here, saying the Bucs could be better. Joe will once again remind readers that days after the Super Bowl win, Bucs quarterbacks coach Clyde Christensen told Pat McAfee that the Bucs were eight games away from peaking.

Why did people come back? Weather. Taxes. Good team. Good coach.

  2. Robert Says:

    Most got raises

  3. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The’re getting paid plenty….IMO the only Buc who is underpaid is Tom Brady.

  4. Medicated Pete Says:

Mike needs to work on tracking the ball. That’s how he can get better

  5. PSL Bob Says:

This team should dominate their opponents this year. LFG!

  6. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

22 returning starters, all returning coaches, another year into learning the system, a great pass catching RB, OJ’s return and 7 more draft picks = Bucs will be better this year.

  7. Mike Says:

The Bucs are a scary team because they can be better and haven’t really hit their full potential yet. It’s going to be fun to watch!

  8. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

^^^^ I see why you go by the name “medicated”

  9. JWBUCS Says:

As Buc Fans, there certainly is plenty to look forward to this upcoming season…

  10. David Says:

    I will keep predicting it.
    offense – 35 + per game
defense – 18 or less per game

A chance to be historically great

  11. August 1976 Buc Says:

It is a Bucs world in 2021-21 Get used to it NFL.. 1-2-3 Dominate GO BUCS!!!!

  12. Defense Rules Says:

The most exciting possibility IMO is what Todd Bowles will be able to do with a defense that now knows his 3-4 hybrid system. If our starters can stay healthy for the season, no reason this defense can’t improve to a Top-5 ranking.

  13. AtlBuc Says:

Brady and the receivers will certainly be more familiar with each other.

  14. 813bucboi Says:

the most exciting part is the offense….they should be the best offense in nfl history now that they’re comfortable with each other and know the play book….

the offense should average in the mid to high 30s…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  15. Ben green Says:

You people better stop counting chickens. You are now the hunted. You’ll get every teams best. That’s unfamiliar territory for most of your team. Getting to the top of the mountain is vastly easier than staying there. Lucky for you the qb knows this. Confidence is one thing, overconfidence is the death rattle. Go ask the chiefs if they were overconfident

  16. Eddie Marz Says:

This team was just beginning to peak at the end of the year. The best it yet to come. GO BUCS!

  17. Hodad Says:

If Fournette was offered a lot more money somewhere else he would’ve took it. Guy’s like Suh who’s made a ton of money, can afford to stay in Tampa for a bit less, but even he got paid what he’s worth. No one who resigned took any significant pay cut to stay here.

  18. Will Says:

Each year players find things in their game that they want to improve on. Mike is a great receiver but I’d love for him to improve on his run after catch ability. To me there have been too many occasions where he ends up running out of bounds at like the 5yd line or something. I LOVED his effort to get in the end zone during the Rams game. Then in the Superbowl he went out of bounds, maybe his momentum carried him out but we ended up not scoring on that drive. That’s my only gripe about his game because he’s definitely matured and doesn’t seem to let guys get in his head as often.

  19. SlyPirate Says:

Jordan’s Bulls had a method for beating you: Keep the score close and put the clamps on defensively in the fourth quarter. They had “their style”.

Towards the end of the year the Bucs defined their style. Max protect, no turnovers, systematically figure out the opposing offense, and shut them down in the fourth quarter.

The Bucs will start the year understanding how they win and they’ll be able to perfect it over the season.

Next year they will be better.

  20. AKicknTheBucNuts Says:

They all came back to see how the train wreck AB saga will end.

  21. Dyno-White ! # 45 Says:

If Drawing DPI penalties were added to Receiving yards, Evans would be the top in yards for seven straight (NFL record already) seasons. Evans and LVD are 2 of the best we’ve ever had, and it’s an NFL secret.

  22. Joe Says:

Evans would be the top in yards for seven straight (NFL record already) seasons.

Had read or heard somewhere Evans drew (not sure of the number) like 13 flags from handsy defensive backs last year, which led the league.

  23. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

Evans and receivers in general took several games to iron out the details with Brady, this year they hit the ground running

  24. RC Says:

Let me just say I am a Tom Brady fan since 2000, but it so hard to win back to back super bowls. I definitely would not bet against this team though.

  25. Natron Says:

With Drew Brees retirement, the Bucs will definitely be a better team
