“Take A Bow, Jason Licht”

April 29th, 2021

Bucs GM Jason Licht

When news surfaced Wednesday morning that Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht re-signed furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing Antonio Brown, it capped the greatest offseason (before the draft) any NFL shot-caller has had in 42 years.

Not since the 1979 Steelers has a Super Bowl champion brought back its entire lineup. And re-signing Brown, who was on a path to the Hall of Fame before he went mental a couple of years ago, was just icing on the cake.

The way Licht’s luck is running in the draft, he is likely to add a couple of future Pro Bowl players this week to the already stacked roster.

Former Jets and Dolphins general manager Mike Tannenbaum, the BSPN talking head, has been watching Licht work his magic from afar and gave Licht props on Twitter Wednesday morning.

Tannenbaum wasn’t the only one. Popular national sports radio and television host Adam Schein doffed his cap to Licht when he read about Brown returning.

And just think, this was all pulled off while Licht and his staff were prepping for the draft.

This just gets Joe stoked for tonight. Hope you can join Joe and some special guests at Joe’s draft party at Big Storm Brewing in Clearwater. Prizes to be handed out to lucky attendees, too.

That picture of Licht makes me laugh every time lol

  2. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Many people had doubts about Licht a few years ago, including me, but he definitely has proven his worthiness as one of the top GMs. Hats off to him.

  3. David Says:

    JOE

You’re assuming they prepped for the draft…. 😂 joking.
Looking at the last several drafts, as you have been posting each round,
it is very apparent that they have improved greatly at drafting.
For the most part, the early years didn’t go so well and the recent years have been outstanding

  4. Jason Says:

The Glazers showed patience with Licht and it paid off. He is obviously a better GM now then when he first started. Remember, almost no NFL GM had experience as a GM before getting hired.

  5. Hodad Says:

If Tom Brady hadn’t wanted to sign here, we’d be wanting him fired by now. Let’s not kid ourselves. It would’ve been a lot harder doing any of the things he did this off season, and last year without Brady. Don’t believe me? Just ask the genius Belichick.

  6. Aceofaerospace Says:

What Licht and the Bucs did was far more complicated than what the Steelers did in 1979. Remember, the Steelers didn’t have free agency to deal with. That didn’t come along until 1993. So just how many starters did the Steelers have to resign? I don’t believe the accomplishment can’t be compared just the results. What Licht did was amazing.

  7. Buc50 Says:

Doesn’t Licht get credit for drafting and signing the talent and coaching that lured Brady here in the first place?

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Count TBBF among the fans who doubted Licht could sign everyone…..didn’t think he could find the money this year…..sure, I believed he could do some restructuring…..but not this much…..unbelievable…..great job, Jason.

  9. mark2001 Says:

I never was among the pitch fork crowd considering running him out of town. Just figured all the stall hay and cow dung would have to be cleared out of the organization before he could really show us what he was made of. Glad to see him show his stuff…and succeed as he has. The future is looking so bright…..

Bingo. Licht is also responsible for having the least dead money in the league. Now that we are in a winning position, he can be creative with the Cap. This has allowed us to keep all 22 starter this year.

  11. Aceofaerospace Says:

The Steelers returning all starters in 1979 doesn’t even compare to what Licht pulled off. Remember, the Steelers did not have free agency to deal with. That didn’t come along until 1993. A team “owned” you. If they wanted you to return, you returned or you didn’t play at all. Joe, I don’t know the answer, but do you have any idea how many players the Steelers had to resign that year? What a Licht accomplished, may never be matched.

JOE drink some bromosas for me plz and have yourself a hell of a time. Thank you for all your hard work to all the joes. Y’all have fun and be safe goo Bucs

Remember what Clyde Christianson said “8 more weeks” well the Buccaneer Juggernaut is about to assault the NFL in 2021-22. With unprecedented continuity for a Super Bowl Champ in the salary cap era, IT IS A BUCS WORLD BABY!!!! GET USED TO IT NFL…. NFC SOUTH, NFC CONFERENCE and KC BRING YOUR BEDRAGGLED BEATDOWN SELF IN THE SUPER BOWL BACK FOR ANOTHER CURB STOMPING…. GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Swampbuc Says:

Jason’s first two years were also at the bidding of Lousy Lovie Smith, so he really didn’t get his full GM wings until 2016. Since then, minus a couple kicker drafting gaffes, and a Gator (Hargreaves) that even Gator fans said “Nooooooooooo” to, he’s been aces. Find me a better one. I’ll wait.

  15. Bird Says:

Bleacher has an article on team needs
Every team but the bucs selects a specific position like receiver or edge rusher

The bucs need states “value” or take best player on board.
    Pretty cool stuff
Even the chiefs have a need – receiver

  16. Aceofaerospace Says:

Sorry for the repeat post. The first didn’t display for an hour. Thought I must’ve forgot to submit.

  17. Winny Testaverde Says:

Former Falcon GM Thomas Dimitroff ( who now writes for NFL.com ) called him the best GM in the league. Some pretty tall cotton for JL…his turnaround story is pretty incredible.

  18. Barbara Roopenian Says:

I am a 30 year New England fan. Your GM is great. The flexibility of this coaching staff to listen to Tom is amazing. Fire the Cannons! Run it back.

  19. Oneilbuc Says:

The GM done good for 2 seasons . Show me what you are going to do for the future. Sustain success is what makes a good GM.

  20. SlyPirate Says:

Licht could not have brought everyone back if it wasn’t a cap restricted year.

    Great job, regardless.

  21. 813bucboi Says:

these same talking heads were laughing at JL when he selected RA in the 2nd round….lol…

    winning erases all…lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  22. Youngbucs Says:

The talent can finally shine through JL has done an amazing job. We need some young outside rushers.

  26. Youngbucs Says:

Looking at our roster it looks like more than half were drafted.

  27. August 1976 Buc Says:

Brady and a fierce pass rush = Take a bow J Licht, you have assembled a Juggarnaut. GO BUCS!!!!!!

  28. Buczilla Says:
