“I Think Everybody Else Is Going To Be A Product Of Their Environment”

April 23rd, 2021

Bryon Leftwich and Bucco Bruce Arians

Is this draft loaded at quarterback? And will the Bucs invest in a quarterback?

A former Bucco Bruce Arians favorite QB was talking about the position late yesterday.

Man, Joe would love to see former Arians/Cardinals QB Carson Palmer pump out a mock draft. What a fun read that would be.

Why?

Because unlike seemingly the rest of America, Palmer says there’s only one QB in the draft so “I’m not taking [a QB] at No. 2,” he told CBS Sports Radio. “I’m drafting a defensive tackle, an offensive tackle, a receiver. If we’re talking about the first round, I think there’s one quarterback in Trevor Lawrence. I think everybody else is going to be a product of their environment.”

Palmer rattled off a list of college QBs and explained that for them it will be all about where they land versus Lawrence being a universal franchise QB prospect.

And that brings Joe back to the Bucs and their soon-to-be 44 year old QB and Tampa Bay possessing the best damn quarterback incubator in the league. (That’s right, Sean Payton.)  But the Bucs have an empty nest with no quarterback hatchling to learn to fly and be fed by Tom Brady, Byron Leftwich, Tom Moore, Clyde Christensen and Arians.

This is the year for the Bucs to get one, just like it was in 2019 and 2020.

If the Bucs don’t draft a QB next week, well, then Joe will pout for half a day and move on. The Super Bowl champs will be just fine in 2021.

Any buzz about bringing a last year prospect via trade?
I remember seeing something about it in here once but never again
    Thanks
    Go Bucs

  2. Swampbuc Says:

I’m with Carson and others, no to QB early. If you take one, Ian Book in the 6th or 7th. Otherwise wait for another FA QB to want a change of scenery just like Brady did.

Let’s face it, the Bucs cannot, have not, and never will be a quarterback developing franchise.

  3. Bradinator Says:

He ain’t wrong. Trevor (aka “Charming” from Shrek) is likely the only real NFL ready guy. There’s a “maybe” for the kid from BYU. Fields needs developing, and Lance will get a serious wake up call playing vs NFL caliber players. He also hasn’t played a down in forever, lotta rust there. After those guys the talent drops like rock. A couple of those guys might make it, based on their environment like it states in the article.

  4. Perimeter Blocker Says:

Finding a franchise QB has to be one of the most difficult challenges in sports. Measurable, interviews, video study…. and still their are no guarantees…

  5. Cainishere Says:

One sentence in regards to pick 32. QB with a 5th year option.

  6. Ash Says:

I think you may have to prepare to pout for your half a day

  7. Buc4evr Says:

No QB in the first round, think it will be a Guard, DT, DE or CB. Bucs will probably need to either trade for a QB like Minshew or pick up a FA QB. I definitely do not want us to draft Trask in any round.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I think next year should be the time for QB pick…..still time to learn from Brady…..many teams taking QBs this year so less competition…..and….guess what?….we won’t pick worse than 32.

  9. Bruce Blahak Says:

just aint there this year. pass, sign Gabbert

  10. Mark Says:

Would not be surprised if the Bucs pick up Shane Buechele from SMU and one of our Arlington, Texas own. A great kid from a professional athlete family that could have a bright future in the right environment. Shane is a smart high football IQ kid and excelled everywhere he went.

Think him learning from Brady would set us up for the future.

  11. PSL Bob Says:

I guess this isn’t the same Joe that argued against taking a QB in this year’s draft. Win now and all that. We don’t need someone warming the bench. Arians doesn’t like to develop QBs. You get the picture. Well, I’m 100% in agreement with this Joe. Not to attempt to groom a QB of the future in the Buc’s current environment, assuming that a good candidate is available, would be malfeasance.

  12. SOEbuc Says:

For all my sixth round pick haters. 247- “Report: Ehlinger is turning heads in interviews.” Palmer said it straight. “Other than Trevor Lawrence the rest of these guys are going to be products of their environment.”

  13. Kobe Faker Says:

    “Hey Byron,

Do you see where in the ground the playbook is that Tom threw at me?”

    Bruce Arians

    “Bruce,

Tom ripped it to shreds and threw it at my face”

    Byron Leftwich

  14. 813bucboi Says:

    t.lawerance is sam bradford 2.0…..

the best QB is justin fields….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  15. K2 Says:

Half the first round QBs will be bust. So, I’m ok either way.

  16. sincethebeginning Says:

Late round QB or no QB at all. This is not the year to find the perfect guy, through the draft, to take Brady’s place.

If we’re lucky and the late-round guy sticks around like Brady stuck around with his first team, then we all just better thank our good fortune.

We’re going to sign a veteran either this year or next year by the end of preseason, and that will be the supposed successor. At that point then we’ll *really* be on the clock to nail “the QB of the future” down in the draft

  17. PatsBucsfan4years Says:

Ian Book is the get… Draft Book before Belidouche does… Prototypical QB, Under Brady’s tutelage…. at least 2 rings in him…

  18. PatsBucsfan4years Says:

Moderation 🤣 what is this Twitter 😳

  19. PatsBucsfan4years Says:

Draft Ian Book… without moderation 😆

  20. Pelsbuc61 Says:

No need for a qb since Bucs will probably get another vet like Rodgers or Wilson after Brady retires. Although I wouldn’t mind them picking Trask in the 2nd round just in case.

  21. MarkRIf Says:

    Drafting a QB at #32?
    – Very speculative
    – Many “sure thing” qbs likely available next year
    – We need depth on the front seven to. ensure post-season THIS YEAR! We should not be so overconfident that we remain stagnant talentwise while everyone else is improving

    **********************************************************
Those two (and others like them) command such a high premium that it’s difficult to keep talent around them.
Very hard to go all the way without a little balance.

  24. Capt.Tim Says:

This is a bad year for QBs. I posted that last week.
And this team isnt gonna wait around 2 years, for some untried QB to find his feet.
Unless you are doing a complete rebuild-YOU DONT DRAFT A ROOKIE!!
This is still a your, uber talented offense. We brought in Brady, to win now.
When he retires- for find another disgruntled Vet- who wants to cement his legacy with a ring.

Or all our young talent will walk, and win another ring elsewhere.

  25. Capt.Tim Says:

Part of Brady’s reason for coming here- was to stick it to Bellichick.
You dont think Aaron Rodgers wants to make the Packers cry for years??

    He would “J.Love” to!
