“Can You Imagine? That Would Be Unbelievable”

April 29th, 2021

Eye-popping pick for Bucs.

The rich are going to get richer. And by God, Joe is here for it.

Joe likes to lean on mock drafts from guys NFL people trust, scouts or dudes that talk to general managers, coaches and owners. That’s one reason why Joe worshipped Joel Buchsbaum. That’s why Joe was a big Mike Mayock guy. It also helped that those two were usually much more accurate than the pretenders.

After Buchsbaum died, Mayock became Joe’s go-to guy. And after Chucky hired Mayock, former NFL scout Daniel Jeremiah was elevated to replace him at NFL Network. Joe also elevated Jeremiah to top-mocker status. Partly because NFL folks trust Jeremiah because he was one of them, a scout for three teams.

He looks at players through the same prism as general managers, and so many general managers were former scouts.

Also, Joe knows NFL shot-callers really respect Jeremiah. And Joe also knows who Jeremiah talks to. 🙂

So with that out of the way, last night Jeremiah issued his final mock draft. He believes with 22+1 starters back from a Super Bowl-winning team, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht will pick the fictitious best player available and fill a looming roster due to hit in late February.

Therefore, at No. 32, Jeremiah believes NFL strongman Roger Goodell will inform Bucs fans, “With the 32nd pick in the draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select… running back Najee Harris, Alabama.”

One reason Joe has never written about Harris is Joe never believed he would be around for the Bucs to draft at No. 32. Let’s just say for Joe, if this comes true, Joe will certainly enjoy his Big Storm Brewing beer tonight.

Jeremiah announced the Bucs’ pick during the NFL Network special last night; host Rich Eisen chuckled and said, “Can you imagine? That would be unbelievable.”

Yes, it would, Rich. And Joe is along for the ride, too.

Trent Richardson was a can’t miss prospect

  2. SlyPirate Says:

Azeez Ojulari … then watch Bowles work his magic.

  3. SKBucsFan Says:

If that happens I will be spitting out my beer. And I would rather enjoy it How!
    How about some defensive help?

  4. Marques Says:

One thing is for sure. We will draft someone from LSU. Especially after last years pick. I see a linebacker and secondary. One of those 2 positions if not both will be filled by someone from LSU.

  5. jo_mama Says:

Trade all our picks away. Get all picks for next year.

Run with what we brung this year. Load up next year.

  6. CalBucsFan Says:

Though I would prefer trading up to get their future QB, I like the pick at 32. That leads to the next question, will either Task or Mond be available at 64 or will they trade up in the 2nd round to get one of them?

  7. lambchop Says:

    Lenny, Rojo, Gio, Keyshaun.

Ummm, yea the Bucs are getting a RB at #32.

    🙄

  8. lambchop Says:

While we have literally nobody that can dominate behind JPP and Shaq.
No solid depth at OT and C.
Still need a shutdown CB and someone to groom behind LVD and add depth at LB. Someone to groom behind Suh at DT. Nunez-Roches and McClendon are serviceable, but not the future. Maybe Khalil Davis?

We don’t have starter holes, but we can improve the depth and rotation.

This draft is weak at QB for the position where we’re sitting in the draft. QB next year.

  9. MarkR Says:

Azeez Ojulari would help us on the edge right now. Fast, great first step.
I just don’t see him as available at #32. – but we can dream!

  10. Ocala Says:

He’s a great back but I would prefer depth on the edge

  11. Weston Says:

Wow… not looking forward to facing that guy one day

  12. BuccaneerScotty Says:

Wouldn’t mind that pick we have nobody signed for next year. But he won’t be around at 32.

  13. Allbuccedup Says:

That is a position we do not need at this point.

  14. Hodad Says:

I’m with you Joe, you don’t need defense when you can out score everyone then grind them away on the ground eating clock.

  15. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Pass. Need other positions rather than a RB.

  16. SB~LV Says:

    I’d love that pick!
Come the home field advantage time of the year and the playoffs the running game really begins to shine! , the Explosive player I have been wishing for, if he is there at 32 the Bucs phone will be ringing off the hook! He would be unlike anything Buc fans have ever seen, well since James Wilder !

  17. ncbucsfan Says:

How soon we’ve forgotten the dreadful Bucs pass defenses of the Lovie/Mike Smith years!! We don’t remember watching QBs sitting in the pocket for 7 secs like they were Dan Fouts having at least 2 wide open options to choose from per pass attempt!! Have we gotten amnesia somehow? If we draft a 5th RB to this roster in the entire 2021 draft, let alone at #32….

  18. Swampbuc Says:

If Najee is there you have to take him at 32. That would be wild. I agree with Joe, no way he’d be there.

  19. Cobraboy Says:

Either trade the entire draft for 2022, or trade the entire draft up to get what they *really* want for 2021.

I have no doubt one or two of the RB’s scheduled to be FA’s in 2022 will be back.

  20. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

With the best OL in college football, Harris had one run over 20 yards.

    I’ll prefer defense.

  21. Joeypoppems Says:

Before free agency, I thought this was the year I would be in on the 1st round RB idea. After bringing back Fournette and adding Gio I cant get excited for a 1st round RB. On the other hand, we are probly the team best suited to do it since we have a complete roster and no 3 down option at RB.

I was the Rojo guy and anti Fournette guy last season and i have to admit i dont think either of them are the answer at RB. Wouldnt be the worst pick in the world, but i would rather see them go pass rusher at 32. Or trade up for one even

  22. Capt.Tim Says:

    Yay! A fifth string RB!!!
    Nope.
I think the pick wil be either Joe Tryon or Jaelon Phillips
    Whoever is on the board.
Followed up by a DT, then a Center

  23. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

There is not a complete back currently on the roster.

  24. iamrhenry Says:

Been saying it for weeks cobra, trade the entire draft for picks in 2022. We could start the rebuild next year with plenty of ammo in the draft. It would also give the Bucs plenty of attention as the talking heads would yammer about it for months. And each of our 2021 picks would improve in value next year with a better position in the round since we pick last in each round this year. Imagine, two 1sts, two 2nds so on and so forth.

  25. Bucanero Says:

I like this but we need a DT on the 2nd in this scenario. BPA in the first is the way to go regardless of position. Our coaching staff can develop o line so we should draft some backup center prospect in the 3rd to 5th round. Burn some picks if we have to and Go Bucs!

  26. 813bucboi Says:

bucs not keeping 5 RBs on the roster….

they’ll target the trenches or trade down….

im hoping for payton turner or c.baremore…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  27. Pewter Power Says:

Everyone except Vaughn in the last year of on a one year deal, if this dude is on the board he’d probably be best player available, hope he’d not the pick but running back would make sense as a future replacement

  28. Oneilbuc Says:

I say quarterback at 32 because right now we don’t need nothing on the defensive side of the ball . Next year will be a good defensive line class. Don’t need a DB because he will become a special teams guy . So I will get a quarterback and he can sit a year. I think this might be the last year for Brady because they were able to bring everyone back . In my opinion !!

  29. gotbbucs Says:

I mean, I wouldn’t cry if that was the pick. I could definitely see Fournette crying though.
Ronald Jones and Najee Harris would definitely soften up defenses as a one-two punch.

Front 7 player or trade down is probably still the most likely scenario.

  30. MadMax Says:

Nope…no RB till later or wait till next year. We are full at RB. C/G and pass rush needs more attention. I dont even want a QB unless we’re trading up for Trevor, which I agree would probably hurt us since so many are on 1 year deals, or in the last year of their contract.

Trenches baby, this is the year to do it.

  31. bojim Says:

Getting hurdled by a RB is like letting a grounder go between your legs.

  32. John in Georgia Says:

Azeez all day long. He compares himself to Shaq.

  33. Mr. B Says:

If you can get a bonafide top 10 draft pick at 32 you take him. This guy is a phenom and you get him at 5 years full control. Three of our current guys are on a one year contract. Grab him if he’s available and don’t look back !

  34. Buczilla Says:

I’d be thrilled, but I don’t see him getting past Miami’s 2nd first round pick and certainly not past the Steelers.
