Patience On Ndamukong Suh, Grasshopper

March 17th, 2021

“I think the clock is slow.”

Joe understands Bucs fans want every free agent locked up before the free agency dinner bell rings today at 4 p.m.

Or, about the time Ira licks his plate clean from his corned beef and cabbage early bird dinner.

Now Josina Anderson, formerly of ESPN, still keeps in the know when it comes to all things NFL as she hosts a podcast that has quite a bit of NFL content. She still taps has her deeply embedded NFL sources.

Anderson touched base with someone with knowledge of the negotiations between the Bucs and free agent defensive lineman Ndamukong Suh, and her message to Bucs fans was to have patience, so Anderson Twittered yesterday.

Suh recently said on Shannon Sharpe’s podcast that he wanted to return to the Bucs and after having preliminary discussions with Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, the Bucs wanted him back to. The issue is, can the two sides meet somewhere in the middle on a fair wage?

Given Licht’s stretch of luck the past two years, would you bet against him bringing Suh back?

Per Spotrac, we have $8.5 mil left BEFORE the Shaq and Gronk deals.
Just something to keep in mind.

  2. Bird Says:

    Offer deal with incentives

    1 year 6 mil base
If he gets 7 sacks he gets another 1 mil
If bucs make super bowl he gets another 1 mil

  3. Robert Says:

    Kicker and AB first.

  4. mark2001 Says:

gbo.. that number doesn’t consider the way new contracts are structured and old contracts are restructured. Spotrac can’t speculate about how contracts are restructured to make cap room. It is only a picture of where things are based upon the information it has.

The Bucs could free up dozens of millions in cap space with restructuring. But it is passing the financial impact and obligation to future years.

  5. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

If Gronk took $8 mil with incentives the Suh will need to deal.

  6. Chris Thomas from Heaven Says:

My scrawny Irish ass is seeing Leprechauns already this morning. Suh will be announced after James White

  7. Wesley Says:

Give me Suh and Succop over Fournette and Brown. That is if it comes down to that. I just don’t see a way to sign all 4.

  8. based weeb Says:

Missed a perfect chance to use a picture of Guns N Roses for this one joe. They have a sing literally called patience! I do appreciate the David Lee Roth choice though great song RIP Eddie!

  9. zzbuc Says:

Sucoop first…then the rest in wichever order you like….Securing a reliable kicker is securing points……

  10. Cobraboy Says:

Suh is a patient man. He will be back on his timetable, and I suspect the Bucs know it.

Another ring guarantees his bust in Canton, and it should.

  11. Mitch Says:

Agreed Suh is patient. Although I don’t know how he managing to negotiate his deal by himself with twins due any minute.

  12. Defense Rules Says:

Without Suh anchoring the DLine last year, the Bucs don’t make the playoffs, since Vea went down in Game 5.

Without Suh anchoring the DLine again this year, the Bucs MIGHT NOT make the playoffs. And even IF we do make the playoffs, our odds of winning the SB would be slim. IMO he really is THAT important to this defense.

Don’t play games. Pay the man. He was worth every penny of what we paid him last year. Same will be true this year.

  13. mark2001 Says:

I wish Joe would do a Public Service Announcement on this board. I know he and Ira have expressed it in the past. But teams will generally find a way to sign players they really desire, because they can adjust contracts to make more room in the near term if they deem it necessary. Too many people look at that number and think it is cast in stone. It isn’t….particularly for a team that hasn’t used the tools to stretch the cap impact out in the past.

  14. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

    Joe…..

    I don’t FEEL tardy……

  15. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

Time to restructure some contracts and sign Suh and Succop.

  16. Bob Bear Says:

All will be back if the Bucs want them cause Brady’s the key, all players in the league who haven’t won a SB and are nearing retirement will want to be a Buc!
That’s why I said if the Bucs want them, and why this year the Bucs could be better then last yr!

  17. gotbbucs Says:

Suh doesn’t typically move fast on these decisions.

  18. Buc4evr Says:

Succop then Suh then AB then a RB. The Bucs need to be more worried about making sure Succop is on the roster next year.

  19. 813bucboi Says:

    suh will be a buc….

    licht will get it done…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  20. Trey Long Says:

In the NFL, any team that has a legit chance to win a Super Bowl THIS YEAR must go all in, period.

  21. Joe Says:

Missed a perfect chance to use a picture of Guns N Roses for this one joe. They have a sing literally called patience!

    Joe Learns something every day.

    I don’t FEEL tardy……

    Nice! 🙂

  22. TOM Says:

Suh, Succup & Stennie before Lenny & BA. Also wouldn’t mind White in the fold.

  23. PassingThru Says:

Something to keep in mind about cap space. Any GM with business sense will find out what he can restructure, then restructure after he’s done negotiating with free agents. You don’t want the (other) agents to know how much money you have in the wallet, it’s a poor negotiating tactic. Promise/commit to the free agent a number within your projected cap budget, then restructure after the free agent signing period ends.

  24. Anonymous Says:

Signing Suh Soccup and AB are the most important maneuvers to undertake this remaining off season. The RB situation needs to be Vaughn and RoJo.

  25. Dbbuc711 Says:

It could also be slow depending on where he is. As I recall, last year there was some delay because Suh was in Europe.

  26. Jb kickback Says:

They should be focussed now on AB
Also the Pats cornerback that they want a second round pick for
He’s the best in the game
