One-Year Extension For Tom Brady?

March 12th, 2021

Update on contract talks.

Yesterday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network dropped a phone call to “The Rich Eisen Show,” seen on Peacock, and dropped all sorts of Bucs intel.

One nugget was that it’s likely a one-year contract extension the Bucs are working on with park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing Bucs Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.

The goal is two-fold. One, Brady doesn’t look like he’s slowing down at all (he will turn 44 in August) and two, the Bucs are trying to clear 2021 cap space to keep some of their own.

“That’s something that has been in the works the last couple of days,” Rapoport said of Brady’s contract extension negotiations. “It probably ends up as a one-year extension. Create cap space. Little more guaranteed [money]. Give them some [cap] room this year.

“I think anybody who watched Brady sees a player who does not somehow appear to be on the downside. So he is sticking around at least definitely next year. And maybe the year after, which probably seems the case too. … Locking him in for another year to give you some cap room probably makes a lot of sense.”

If the Bucs today or this weekend announce that Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett re-signs with the team, in part because Brady cleared cap room, Joe is going to guzzle untold amounts of Big Storm Brewing beers this weekend.

Gimme your address Joe – I wanna guzzle with you if Shaq stays!!

  2. Mort Says:

You’ll drink if he does come back, and you’ll drink if he does. That sounds… unhealthy.

  3. DoooshLaRue Says:

He’ll throw or punch things too.

    Joe has anger issues!

  4. Darin Says:

Yeah Mort i dont think some understand how alcohol affects the body. And of course the only way shaq stays is if brady does something team friendly. Brady is already taking 15 mil a year less to strengthen the team. You better believe he isnt going to go out of his way for someone not willing to help the team too. Glad the picture is becoming a little clearer over there.

Gotta get Shaq attack back. Let Shaq vea and JPP loose so the rest of the defense can clean up after them. How bout topping off the lost decade with not just 1 Super Bowl but 2. So happy we got 1 but y’all this is serious it’s about to be back to back champs in Tampa or should I say champa

  6. August 1976 Buc Says:

Tom and Gisele have a $500+ million fortune currently and growing. Tom can do any extension needed and be just fine. So we will see what happens. But with Tom and Giseles kind of worth and Toms burning desire to win, it could be just a matter of time before Shaq is signing on the dotted line. We will all know very shorty what happens. GO BUCS!!!

  7. Joe Q Says:

Forget just a 1 year extension. Do a creative 2 or 3. Then get a deal done with Gronk, AB and Su!

  8. TOM Says:

Get TB extended & then resign Gronk, Succup & Suh.

  9. John Sinclear Says:

With a $500 million worth, how about this? Tom hires Shaq on a personal service contract and then leases him to the Buc’s for $1.00 per year!

  10. Hodad Says:

Brady said he wants to play until he’s 45 so a two year extension seems more likely.

  11. daniel Da Man Says:

TB will be a BUCCANEERS guy for at least 2 years
    Maybe 3
The other team in the NFL will be better, a 2nd super bowl will be bety difficult. But.. we’ll see

  12. Ben green Says:

Brady use to do this all the time, save for his last couple years in NE. It’ll give a little flexibility next year not necessarily this. We’ll see what happens with shaq

  13. Ben green Says:

You may even see a longer extension, something like 4 years with a big bonus paid out each year. The last year’s would be dummy

  14. SOEbuc Says:

Succop is priority 1A now over 8 Shaqs $80 million. Please don’t tell me Succop is an easy replacement in Tampa. Licht is such a good business man and scout, if we don’t bring Shaq back, I still think he’ll be able to make good moves in FA and the draft to put a Brady championship team back together. Don’t forget folks, these BRADY TEAMS are always the ones winning Super Bowls (eat sh!t Bellicheat).
