Marcus Spears Wants Bucs To Trade For Odell Beckham

February 18th, 2021

Bucs trade chatter.

Joe really doesn’t like this idea. In any way.

Sure, Joe knows that park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, trophy-throwing Bucs Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady works wonders with reclamation projects and dudes that have gone off the deep end at receiver.

Randy Moss resurrected his career with Brady, as did furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing Antonio Brown.

And yeah, Playoff Lenny is at the pinnacle of his NFL career now (though a running back).

Marcus Spears of BSPN believes the same can happen for Odell Beckham Jr. A gifted receiver, Beckham is, well, let’s just say an eccentric who mimes dogs p!ssing on pylons and spars with kicking nets. He also likes motorboating off the Florida shores just prior to a playoff game.

I like it a lot,” Spears said on “Stay in Bed,” regarding the idea of the Bucs trading for Beckham.

“OBJ and Tom Brady, are you kidding me, and Mike Evans? OBJ needs this at this point in his career. He needs to be paired with a Tom Brady or a Deshaun Watson or someone like that.”

Well, the very first thing Joe thought of was “What about Chris Godwin?”

Joe assumes from the chatter that the BSPN crowd thinks free agent Godwin won’t be on the Bucs in 2021. Initially, Spears said he would trade Godwin for Beckham, which on face value seems full-blown idiotic. (Of course, you cannot trade free agents.)

Joe is spooked that Beckham blew out his knee late last season. He likely wouldn’t be 100 percent until 2022. And if the Bucs are going to roll the dice on a guy who had knee surgery, Joe would prefer it be running back Marlon Mack, a free agent, not Beckham.

Beckham is scheduled to pocket $15 million in 2021 per Spotrac.com. Joe would rather invest in Godwin.

No thanks we are doing just fine without a memememe guy

  2. Davenport Buc Says:

Hard pass – If Godwin goes, AB is a nice replacement

  3. Hodad Says:

Last thing we need to add.

  4. Erick Says:

These former players on these shows are really the worst for the most part. Doesn’t make sense in so many ways.

If the Bucs want a receiver with Beckham’s skill set, then they will just sign back Antonio Brown, who will be cheaper, less health issues, no lost draft capitol, and shown he can fit in with this team.

“OBJ at this point in his career needs to be teamed up Tom Brady or Deshaun Watson”…huh?

How about he elevates the team he’s already on, that just made playoffs and on the rise.

  5. Gofortheface30 Says:

Denver may let go of Von Miller or attempt to trade him. If the Bucs were to poke around some big names, THAT guy would be at the top of my list if they can’t bring Shaq back who may, ironically, end up back in Denver who will surely make a run at bringing him back. No – I don’t care if he’s coming off an injury. This isn’t the 80s where in injury wrecks a career. Von is only 31 and can still get you 10-12 sacks and would be a force in a Todd Bowles defense. The Bucs will have a lot of options

  6. Architek Says:

No sir. Ever beard of Desean Jackson and Swaggy Baker??? Champion pedigree players?

  7. August 1976 Buc Says:

Fun for the talk shows, but when it comes to dollars and cents, no. Is he going to come here on 1 year AB contract, no. But hey it is going to be fun anyways to see the different ringchasers line up to come and play with Brady. Fun offseason, to the victor go the spoils lol. The Buccaneer Juggernaut is rolling along baby. Going to be another fun year in 2021 stacking up victories. Eyes on 8 for Brady and 3 for the Bucs!!!!

  8. Mitch Says:

No thank you. He is a cancer who can’t stay healthy.

On another note BA has made it abundantly clear that their main focus is bringing everyone back and then “maybe” bring an outside guy in.

  9. Gofortheface30 Says:

As in aside some of you are being extremely ironic with your comments as if AB isn’t bat shi crazy himself. He has a far more sordid history than Odell. Not that I WANT Beckham on the team (because it’s unnecessary) but I’m not gonna crawl in to a fetal position cry because I think he’ll destroy the locker room. Maybe give the Bucs locker room and Tom Brady a little more credit and not assume one man will destroy team chemistry, don’t be ridiculous. Odell can either fall in line with a championship team full of winners or get out, much like AB. The short selective memories of some of you

  10. ocala Says:

    Nope

  11. Wesley Says:

    Hell to the no.

  12. Miller5252 Says:

Why would you ever want to replace Godwin with Odell??? He may be cheaper, but what has he even done since his NY days??? Him and AB together is a train wreck just waiting to happen.

  13. Bruce Blahak Says:

turn off the noise folks….sign our own > Godwin, David, Succup, Barrett, Gronk and Suh…no outside free agaents…and watch this JUGGERNAUT! plow through 2021…dynasty!

  14. NashvilleBuc Says:

    Idiot

  15. pewter941 Says:

I would give up our 7th rd pick for him, as long as the Browns pay for 85 percent of his salary.

  16. TampaTown Says:

    No. Please no.

  17. TSmitty300 Says:

It is a dumb idea for a reason people are missing. Replacing Godwin with Odell would send a terrible message, because he makes what you could have paid Godwin and you will have to move a pick or two to get OBJ. I believe we should let Godwin walk, because I wouldn’t pay two receivers top dollar. Even if you franchise Godwin, keep in mind the cap is lowering and the entire tag is on the cap. That means no spreading it around like a traditional contract extension.

  18. mark2001 Says:

I certainly prefer Godwin. But if we lose him, I wouldn’t be worried about OBJ’s behavior. This isn’t Jameis and Dirk we are talking about. We are taking about Brady and Arians. He would be playing with the GOAT…a guy that wouldn’t put up with any nonsense, and the cred to make it work. Guys…time to have a paradigm shift. Been so long since we have had an excellent group of coaches and never have we had a QB with these kind of credentials. It is a new day in Tampa Bay.

  19. German Buc Says:

What I don’t understand is ‘trade’ for a guy who need to play with Tom to give his career new life. If he wants to come in on the same deal AB had gotten the last season – I’d think about that. But PAYING for him?? Heck, no!

  20. BucsBeBack (Artist formally known as: BringBucsBack) Says:

Would Beckham be required to live with TB12, eat like TB12, Yoga like TB12, Zen like TB12, “shrink” like TB12, watch film like TB12, study the playbook like TB12 & wash the dishes like AB, for less money? Then go for it. If not, then just sign Godwin!

  21. Beeej Says:

They just announced cap going UP $5 million

  22. Big_Buc$ Says:

Nope and why would we trade for a player coming off an ACL tear.

  23. ModHairKen Says:

Would anyone seriously rather have that head case over Godwin? If so, go cheer for the Chiefs, Packers, Saints or Redskins.

  24. ClodHopper Says:

I’m not going to waste any time thinking about this. Dudes like OBJ are for desperate teams like the 2019 Bucs. Not the 2021 Bucs.

  25. Cobraboy Says:

If Godwin leaves and OBJ is CUT, he may be worth at least a chat on a cheap “prove it” deal.

Fact is JBF naysayers also claimed Fournette and Brown were “cancers,” too.

Fact is Brady and Arians has a strong track record of curing those types of “cancers.”

  26. swampbuc Says:

Marcus Spears must have ingested the bud of a certain Mexican cactus.

    Godwin >>> 2021 OBJ.
    AB > 2021 OBJ.

And we don’t have to trade anything to keep our own free agents — trade something valuable to absorb an expensive contract for an injured diva? Keep hallucinating, Marcus.

  27. Fred mcneil Says:

    Beckham is all about Beckham.
    Pay Chris.

  28. Fred mcneil Says:

If its nessasary to be cold hearted about it draft somebody.

  29. PassingThru Says:

I just hope Licht finds enough cash under the sofa cushions to pay Godwin, forget this unhealthy obsession with Beckham.

If you can’t keep Godwin, find a hybrid slot/X receiver in the draft; someone who has great hands, understands how to run routes, and can run block. In other words, someone like Godwin. That’s the winning formula.

  30. Pewter Power Says:

Who cares what he wants to see or what OBJ “needs”. What’s best is for Bucs to resign potential Buc greats and this is the one thing I hate about free agency and the pay structure. What’s the point of a ring of honor if you make it so other teams can pay more for your great draft picks when free agency comes up, the team that drafted you should have flexibility to pay more than anyone else because there would be less movement unless a guy just wanted out.

Godwin is better in the slot where he’d play in this offense, OBJ better on the outside so I’ll take Godwin all day in THIS offense plus he’s younger and more durable. People are fascinated with names even if they haven’t been relevant for years

  31. Capt.Tim Says:

Antonio Brown and Mike Evans are both Elite players.
Brown may be the best in the league.
Scotty Miller, Tyler Johnson, and Justin Watson are all great back ups.
I dont want to lose Godwin, But I think we will.
I wouldnt trade anything for OBJ. If he gets released and comes here- Id sign him.

I would be more concerned with Replacing WR coach
    Randle-El right now.

  32. TOM Says:

No way in hell. Keep our great WR’s. Don’t need him.

  33. Eddie Says:

You are the worst reporter ever. If you can’t something good shut up.

  34. Beeej Says:

When is OJ’s rookie contract up, and does ANYone know how his rehab is going?

  35. D1 Says:

    Joe,

“Blew out a knee”, a torn ACL is not going to require 2 years to heal. This isn’t the 70’s or 80’s . He should be on track for week 1.

  36. Cobraboy Says:

@Capt. Tim: but there is a good chance the team could lose both Brown and Godwin (I hope not, but that’s the reality.)

IF the Bucs lose BOTH…a very real chance…and IF OBJ gets cut, IMO it would be worth at least a chat.

I have zero fear Brady can’t control OBJ. None. In fact, I see this entire thing as OBJ starting a PR campaign for the purpose of working with Brady. OBJ is not an idiot. He knows what the rules are in advance.

Randy Moss was an uncontrollable Diva, too. Brady had *zero* problems with him.

I understand the skepticism, but you’d think fans should have learned a lesson about this team management & leadership by now.

  37. bojim Says:

‘OBJ needs this at this point in his career.’ Sorry. Not a real good reason to go after him.

  38. Alaskabuc Says:

No, no, no! Why in the hell would we ever bring this cancer into our locker room? Bring back AB if you want, but don’t touch OBJ.

  39. Bucanero Says:

Offer 14 the same money 13 makes and if that is not good enough for him he can walk, do not trade for Beckham if he is released then he might be an option. Get TB12 a defense and resign all of our players at a reasonable price. 3, 28, 81… will bring enough points to win if we have a defense and depth.

  40. windbaggery Says:

    Dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

  41. Sapp, STFU Says:

I cannot be the only Bucs fan who thinks we don’t need more egos on the team. Evans, Godwin, and Miller are great. If AB stays with us, his baggage is all the drama we should permit in the club. OBJ might be a great player, and I might rue the day I say this, but we have the talent we need and don’t need to add more just for jersey sales.

If we cannot sign Godwin, maybe OBJ wants to take a huge pay cut to try for a ring. But the pressure is squarely on him, not the Bucs. Make it worth our while or look somewhere else.

  42. firethecannons Says:

no-so many other things to obsess over than this lousy fool

  43. BillyBucFan Says:

Cancer in the locker room is a thing of the past.
This team knows how to win now. Come on man.
That sounds like how Freuland does her “analytics”
Recycle knowledge that is out of date.
ACL, please. AP ran for north of 2,000 after his.

Bottom line is he wants too much money.
I think ME and Godwin will both make 12 Mill this year on a restructure for ME.
AB will play for 7 or 8. Gronk too.
    Restructure Smith, Jensen, Marpet etc
No more 1 year prove it deals. 2 and 3 years light on the front end.

  44. adam from ny Says:

this guy is not that serious about football…

he’s more entertained with his potential celebrity-ism than his football career…

i can’t see tom getting along with a guy like this…

but then again you never know

  45. CalBucsFan Says:

Who cares what Marcus Spears thinks? Let the Cowboys trade for OBJ, Bucs need to keep Godwin who is twice the player and man.

  46. Dan Williamson Says:

    HELL NAH!

  47. buxsxntkt Says:

This shows you how SLOWWWWWW the NFL news has become at this time of year. Talking heads are reaching for straws, anything to create a controversial comment to make their name relevant ! Maybe this is the time contracts are renewed on talking heads as well, who will be shouting at us come training camp. All these knuckleheads make whatever comment they think can get people talking about them.
    Absurd !

  48. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

    Now way. Nope.

  49. lambchop Says:

He needs us more than we need him. We don’t need divas, especially with a stacked WR room.

  50. LA Bucs Fan Says:

Let him go to a desperate team

  51. Ex-Pats-Fan Says:

No Bucs need no more receivers. But need to keep that defensive and offensive front intact. So save the money for them.

  52. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

    Ew. No way.
