You Wanted Him

January 10th, 2021

Uh, oh.

Last week when Washington dodged a bullet from tanking Philadelphia, all-world defensive end rookie Chase Young skipped off the field and hollered to whoever would listen that he wanted park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady.

Hey now!

In the days leading up to the game, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians joked about Young’s comments, saying folks ought to be “careful what you wish for.” This played out tonight.

Young was virtually shut out by Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith. He had three tackles, one solo, and no quarterback hits.

Sacks? Nada.

Rather than the Bucs — or Brady — being peeved at Young, it seemed as if all Young’s words did was fire up the Bucs’ offensive line.

“Our guys took that to heart,” Arians said. “They were going to block them and I thought they blocked well.”

Aside from backup guard Ted Larsen, the pride of Palm Harbor University High School, who replaced injured Alex Cappa, the offensive line played solid if not damn good. Brady was sacked twice (both came through Larsen) and there were holes to run through all night long.

So it seems thanks is in order to young Mr. Young. If sure helped the Bucs’ front line sharpen its game.

Hahahahahahaha he asked for it and couldn’t handle it. You love to see it!

  2. Robert Says:

OL was solid. I’ll eat crow on DS this week. Played well.

  3. JustBucNwin Says:

Online did a heck of job tonight! Need that same energy next week and our secondary to STEP IT UP! Getting D White back will help big time!

  4. Chris L Says:

Losing cappa really sucks. Either rams or saints play with good fronts. Finally the drought is over though!

  5. Darin Says:

Always does. Talk is a one way street and Mr Young learned he was heading the wrong way. Not like he was saying it to anyone besides his teammates tho.

  6. David Says:

Let’s give credit where credit is due. He wanted Brady but what he got all day was Donovan Smith and Smith shut him down!

  7. LVMYBUCS Says:

I really expected more from this WFT front especially how much the media hyped them up all week. Chase wasn’t even a issue just goes to show you that you cant believe everything you read or hear.

  8. lambchop Says:

What he meant was he wanted Tom’s autograph.

  9. David Says:

    JOE—-

Please look at the tape. Both sacks looks like they were on Jensen not Larson to me anyway. Jensen had the guy and turned him over in order to help Marpet double team.
Maybe that was the design but it made no sense to me why Jensen didn’t stick with the defender of his right since that’s where there was a hole

Hey Joe, have you had this story mostly wrote up since Monday and just waiting to throw it out there after the game?!?! 😂 You never give great players that extra motivation. Didnt he watch the Jordan documentary in March with the rest of the world.

  11. Robert James Says:

i seemed to rememberBozai talking about how easy this game would be.

  12. 813bucboi Says:

    Larsen got beat bad twice….

    Gotta tighten that up

    GO BUCS

  13. Fernando Says:

    Young = Smith’s bitch that’s all
He was put on the ground at least 7 times I saw

  14. Ben the GA Buc Says:

To Young’s credit I’ll bet he owned up to that when he spoke to Brady after the game. Looked like there were some good words there. But he’s learned a lesson.

  15. FrankPillow Says:

The OL was largely stellar, with a ton of help from 87. Young is going to be a monster…but as we all know, the GOAT fears no man come playoff season!

I said it the other night, but I have zero issues with trash talking. This is a man’s sport, and this sissy nonsense of patting each other on the rear while you fluff each others ego is just gay. Talk trash, make people mad, poke them in the eyes in the pile, do whatever you need to do to win.

HOWEVER… if you’re a rookie, and you talk trash and don’t back it up… Man… That’s bad, real bad. Talk trash all you want, I enjoy the hell out of it, but rookie, you put a target on yourself and then you put up a zero. That’s bad, the vets on the team in the old days would have made you sure you got an extra bad hazing.

  17. Kentucky Buc Says:

DS was a beast. Young couldn’t move him. Too strong for him. Bucs had some jitters being in their first playoff game for most. Brady held them together to get the win. If the O-line continues to ball out the Bucs have a chance against anyone even with the crappy defense. That was the best defense in the playoffs except maybe the rams. Maybe.

  18. Rod Munch Says:

Kentucky Buc – The Rams are a much better defense, the Redskins don’t stop the run, while the Rams do. Also the Rams get more pressure. Also the Saints are a much better defense. Still, this might be the 3rd or 4th best defense in the playoffs and the Bucs put up over 500 yards and 30 points. But the Rams and Saints are a big step up from this – and the Bucs will play one of the two next week. The Bucs have to win on offense, they can’t rely on that weak Bucs defense to get the job done, and that should be the mentality.

  19. MadMax Says:

“Chased” himself right out of the playoffs….but nice try kid 🙂

  20. Godlovesbucs Says:

Smith put him on the bench to end the game. He looked every bit like a top 5 LT tonight.

  21. GiantBleedingGash Says:

He’s not a bad guy. He was a little to caught up in the moment.

  22. ClodHopper Says:

It was cool seeing them meet on the field after the game too. You could actually see the respect in his eyes when he was looking at Brady.

This is really a great story about Donovan. All week I was worried about him. Big game on prime time against a good rusher. I thought for sure he would look hung over out there and even have a false start or two.

  23. Tattoodonny Says:

Its about time, we’ve waited a long time to celebrate a playoff game and longer waiting on a win. The OL played well and held up great vs a really good DL. Next week will be the true test. We’ll either get a road game vs our rival or a home game vs a team that beat us weeks ago. There’s an old saying “its extremely hard to beat a team three times in a season, 🤞🤞the 3rd time will be Tampa’s charm. I’m still pinching myself every time the G.O.A.T. trots out in a beautiful Bucs jersey. Go Tompa Bay, Go Brady!!!

  24. Perimeter Blocker Says:

Great stuff…. btw anybody hear from Steve Smith???

    Word, crunk, Ed Zachary.

Trash talk is fine. Sapp had a PhD in Trash Talk.

But if you talk smack, and don’t back it up, you look like a puffed-up fool.

We used to have an expression for it: “Look like Tarzan, play like Jane.”

The Joes had a thread about the Black Night from the Monty Python flick, The Holy Grail. That analogy could apply to young Mr. Young.

Mr. D Smith, the OT that many Bucs fans love to hate, taught the trash-talking Mr. Young an important…if not embarrassing…lesson.

  26. Cobraboy Says:

I kinda chuckled when the FTFKATR QB kept trying to get Brady’s attention after the game, following Brady around like a puppy in a crowd.

  27. View from 132 Says:

I like Young’s enthusiasm. The NFL needs more stars on D. Seems like a good kid. But glad the O-line held up.

  28. Listnfrmafar Says:

Young was praising his QB and pointing to his jersey so we knew his name. We do but your name was easily forgotten when you couldn’t support your QB’S great play. PO’s rookie, time to put your tongue away and big boy pants on. Go play so.e XBOX Chase your season is OVA!

  29. stpetebucsfan Says:

While I agree with Cobra and Rod about trash talking generally if it’s done in fun and trying to psych out an opponent fine.

However I do not view Young’s failure because DS outplayed him as a smirch on the kid’s resume. He showed tremendous class when he looked up Brady at the games conclusion and made his concession talk. WOW…imagine admitting defeat when the scoreboard show you just LOST, What a refreshing change.

Young will be back. He didn’t cease being a great talent because he was outplayed in ONE game.
