Tom Brady Quicker Than Before

January 15th, 2021

Defying human nature.

Joe used to puke when reading about how park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady needed more time with the Bucs to get things rolling.

There were all sorts of examples why that was nonsense, from rookie quarterbacks lighting it up to a veteran like Brady who was doing well with a new team.

As Joe has come to learn it wasn’t so much Brady needed time; he just needed time to get things to working the way he wanted it.

And per Nora Princiotti of The Ringer, part of that was his demand receivers perform to near perfection.

Defenses tend to improve as the season goes on, and Brady, a noted stickler for how his receivers run routes and communicate with him, was always going to need time to get comfortable in his new setting.

Princiotti goes on to document just how much of a better quarterback Brady has been since the Bucs got seal-clubbed by the Saints on Sunday Night Football.

But here is the real kicker. Old farts generally wear down as seasons progress. Joe wonders if that is part of the reason why 32-year-old Jason Pierre-Paul has been MIA the past month.

For example, remember 2008 when the Bucs collapsed in December with an aging roster?

But Brady, just a few years away from AARP eligibility, has actually gotten better both in his results and his quickness, which seems impossible to believe. But it’s true, Princiotti documents.

Brady has spent an average of 2.23 seconds in the pocket before each pass attempt since Week 10 after taking 2.43 seconds in Weeks 1-9, according to ESPN.

That’s critical against a unit like New Orleans’ defensive line, especially for a quarterback like Brady, whose play drops off significantly when pressured.  …

So when Bucco Bruce Arians and Sean Payton and even Brady himself say the Bucs are a different team now than they were when they got curb-stomped by the Saints, this is part of the reason why.

A middle-aged man playing a brutally violent sport getting quicker as a long season drags on? Joe doesn’t know how that is possible but thank goodness it’s a guy doing that while playing for the Bucs in mid-January.

Just chemistry and the more he plays the less he has to think about the play he’s running . Still say next year they will be unstoppable. Brady plays with his brain more than any other Qb in the league. The more reps the more fluent he becomes in this offense and with these receivers.

  2. DoooshLaRue Says:

You sure do puke a lot Joe.

  3. Buczilla Says:

Cool story, Brady is one of a kind.

  4. Bird Says:

  6. Bird Says:

    Great reply joe

Im kidding. I mean serious. Jameis always got benefit of doubt
Even a terrible game was a mixed bag
Go to your own archives. Excuse after excuse was used .
“Im trying to get better everyday”. Used over and over again. That got no such comment criticism. For 5 years
    Just being honest

the best qb to ever play will never match up to the guy that is currently a third string qb

    😂

Discoveries are being made every day. These guys get the very best of everything in terms of nutrition…perhaps blood doping(not illegal)…exercise..rest…meditation…

Dr. Sanjay Gupta has a new book about keeping our mental faculties. Recently scientists discovered that old folks can even produce new brain cells. This stunned Gupta because formerly the belief was that you created all your brain cells very early on and then that’s what you had to work with the rest of your life.

Some of you young guys may see life expectancy to reach 100.

  8. Jason Says:

So this article caused me to spend 20 minutes on the TB12 web site. Thanks Joe!
Fun fact: Tom doesn’t eat strawberries because he doesn’t like the smell (sorry Plant City).

  9. 813bucboi Says:

not a surprise….he’s more comfortable in the system and with his teammates…simple

    GO BUCS!!!!

  10. Jimmy Says:

    >>> Dr. Sanjay Gupta has a new book <<<

Is that the same book where Gupta said masks are worthless against the violence or the book where he said masks are vital for protection against the virus?

  11. Jimmy Says:

    violence = virus

The time per pass attempt is generally due to the plays being called. Leftwich has FINALLY switched things up over the last 4 (or so) games of the year and last week – I can’t sit at home and yell out what they’re going to run 90% of the time, like I could earlier in the year. So that’s a big deal. Also they’re finally working AB into the game plan, and I think that’s the biggest difference, they’re trying to get him the ball short and let him get yards on his own. No idea why they don’t do the same with Godwin at least some of the time.

Hopefully the offense can keep it up.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I would argue that Jason Pierre-Paul has not disappeared. He had two sacks and 3 passes defended in the past 4 games. No sack for JPP in last 4 games. –Joe

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Look for big games from Suh and Barrett…and maybe Jason Pierre-Paul too. White should have some good hits on Brees.

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

When history looks back at this game, the Bucs will have won even though no one in the media thought they could…one their way to the Superbowl.

  16. Show Me the TDs Says:

It’s just like any other job. The more you become acclimated, the better you become. It’s almost like osmosis. You don’t even realize how you got better, but you did.

  17. Brady is a cheater Says:

Iam one of the biggest Tom Brady fans, and even I will tell you , he has no shot against the Saints . 8 qbr last time played

  18. Buc1987 Says:

  20. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Brady is a cheater…you are nothing other than a troll.

I like the words of the song…
“I’m not as good as I once was, but I’m as good once as I ever was”
And the only vitamin I get a steady dose of is “D”

  22. Gil Says:

Brady is the best in his class, lots of experience, he will beat Green Bay and he will win the Super Bowl, man wants it bad, he still has that chip on his shoulder, you can do it lol
