Saturday And “Seven-Man Protections”

January 6th, 2021

Is No. 73 a Saturday key?

Will the Buccaneers roll Washington on Saturday?

Of course, they will, says a former NFL QB.

Even if Mike Evans doesn’t play, SiriusXM NFL Radio voice and ex-NFL quarterback Brady Quinn is confident the Bucs will have a lopsided victory in Round 1 of the playoffs.

Pass protection will be critical for the Bucs, Quinn said, which is why he said “seven-man protections” very well could be a Tampa Bay focus. The simple reason, per Quinn, is that the Bucs have so many dynamic weapons and the max-protect approach will ensure they’ll get open.

While backup offensive lineman Joe Haeg was ugly when he debuted at left guard, he has earned coaches love as an extra tight end on those kinds of passing downs.

Joe agrees with Quinn. Kill the Washington pass rush and what do they have to compete with the Bucs? Not much.

I’m worried that this game might go down in DC because of the unrest. Could it possibly moved to Tampa?

  2. Casual Observer Says:

I hope overconfidence doesn’t raise it’s ugly head.

  3. miken Says:

Skins are 6-1when AlexSmith starts and their D hasn’t given up more than 20 once in 3 months. I don’t want to see a repeat of Bucs vs Chicago!

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Use Auclair & Gronk…..at least they can catch a pass if warranted….

  5. sincethebeginning Says:

IrishTony, I’ve been wondering the exact same thing.

  6. Mike Says:

Don’t forget the Detroit Lions dropped 30 points on that Washington Defense. Tampa will not allow that Dline to ruin the game.

  7. 813bucboi Says:

defense was to rattle alex smith from start to finish…simple as that!!!

    GO BUCS!!!

  8. buc15 Says:

sounds like an easy win to me

  9. bojim Says:

He should report as eligible once in a while.

  10. Logan Says:

Everyone has forgotten that we played both the Bears and Saints early in the season when the offense hadn’t found its stride and cohesion. Yes, they’ve played bad teams, but they’ve still put up points in a big way. We shall see, there’s a lot of hype around Washington that I really feel is overblown. Yes, they have a good pass rush, outside of that, nothing. There’s a reason they lost to the Lions, Panthers and are 7-9.

  11. NoBody Says:

This game worries me if their pass rush can get to Tom, rattle Tom and we’re in trouble… I hate the NFL for letting Kamala play and Devin white sittin out.. bull squid if you ask me but hey, let’s not forget it’s a buc life

  12. ModHairKen Says:

    And run from that formation.

    IrishTony
    Lol
    The games are played in
    Maryland

  14. SlyPirate Says:

IrishTony … Spot on. There is no “home field” advantage this year. Move the game to an alternate location and keep everyone safe.

  15. GMoney Says:

Better yet, move the game to Sunday

  16. Listnfrmafar Says:

Brady is not going to get rattled. He has been pounded many times in big and not so big games and his winning record shows the results. He has also faced defenses that
make Washungton look like the 2020 Lines D. What he hasn’t had was a supporting cast of this magnitude. I smell a sticky ass whipping. What does favor the Bucs is the fact that they are so excited to be in the PO’s they will be flying high.

  17. adam from ny Says:

    what if:

on the back of TB’s helmet this weekend it says…

    “make america great again”

tom and the donald are homies…

will tom fight for the donald while in washington too ????????

  18. 0-26 survivor Says:

Anyone who watched the worst game of the season on Sunday nite has to come away feeling there is no way bucs lose this one. I will include myself in this category , so looking ahead we have to be rooting very hard for Chicago and the rams this weekend for the right to make that trip to green bay for one of them. If both win (anything is possible) would bucs not be playing rams in tampa? Seems like even more incentive to crush wft.

  19. Listnfrmafar Says:

Adam, you really going there, what a doooosh statement. Brady has brought nothing but professionalism and positivity to a team that has spiraled downward for years.

  20. Listnfrmafar Says:

Wow, sensored. Joe is your site sponsored by CNN? Adam can put his post up and I cannot rebut? It’s not like I used any curse words. Whatever, I refuse to contribute or support a site that does not promote freedom of speech. I find it ironic after what our country had witnessed today. Good luck in the PO’s Bucs fans.

  21. SOEbuc Says:

My stat for all this BS is Bucs are fourth least sacks allowed. Jumped out of my chair when they said least amount of penalties in the last ten weeks.

  22. View from 132 Says:

Run your offense, and if they can’t handle the rush, then you go max protect. You can also use a lot of draws, reverses, WR screens, TE screens… lot of ways to beat a good D-line. Or just line up and run block and grind them down.

  23. adam from ny Says:

    relax Listnfrmafar…

    i wrote “what if”…

    i put up what if’s occasionally….

and what does what if mean?…

    it means there’s a mere possibility…that’s all…

    since brady became a buc i’m a huge supporter…

    so don’t fret…

    it’s just a what if…

unless on saturday there’s small writing on the back of tom’s helmet stating “make america great again” 🙂

  24. Defense Rules Says:

Washington’s offense might be meh, but their defense is 1st-class. For those who’ve written that all they have is a good pass rush, you might want to relook at what the rest of their defense accomplished this year.

Little things like ranking as the #4 defense in terms of Points Allowed count. So does ranking #2 in terms of Total Yards Allowed. Their pass defense is no slouch either, ranking #2 in terms of Passing Yards Allowed (only 3068) and #2 in terms of Passing TDs Allowed (only 21). Picked off 16 INTs to rank #5 in the NFL, and were #3 in Least number of 1st downs allowed.

Take a look at their CBs, Safeties & LBs and you’ll notice that they’re all very good at pass defense; as in ‘no obvious weaknesses there’. Where they do look to be vulnerable is in run defense. Opponents ran the ball on an average of 42.6% of their plays against Washington, probably because Washington’s pass defense is quite stingy. In their 9 losses, Washington gave up an average of 143 yards rushing, but in their 7 wins they only gave up an average of 74 yards rushing.

One of the things that looks interesting is that all of the teams, except one, who beat Washington this year did so by running MORE than they passed (Detroit actually beat them 30-27 by passing more than they ran … Lions held on after being ahead 24-3 halfway through the 3rd qtr). Of course the only team that Washington beat who had a winning record was the Steelers, so there’s that.

  25. Dbiggestbucfanever88 Says:

About who bucs fans should want to win is bears and rams. If that happens and we win the rest of the season is played at rayj.and that would be awesome look gronks a hell of a blocker and tb has the quick passing game looking like a well oiled machine tb knows the playoffs bucs by more than 20 not even close then rematch with rams at home

  26. Lakelandsteve Says:

Irish Tony, Landover, Maryland,(FedEx field) where Washington plays is about 10 miles or so from DC. You never can tell but I don’t think they would move the game because of a concern for security. I am sure they have enough local cops to work the game, but all of these games are going to have a contingent of Feds working it. They really ramped up after 9-11. They may not have enough Federal support to “safely” play because all their resources could be tied up in D.C. But that is really just conjecture on my part. If that happens they could move the game but they would probably have to announce it tomorrow (Thursday) and even then they may not be able to play it until Sunday because of time constraints. That might work out for the Bucs though because if the game was on Sunday Devin White might be cleared to play. Here’s hoping they move it.

  27. Rod Munch Says:

I started to feel a lot better about this game when Chase Young ran his mouth. There’s no way Brady is going to let some rookie punk him out. If the oline can’t stop him, you put in a backup and go for Youngs knees. You really think Brady isn’t willing to be the bad sensi? I think Brady will do anything to win, and everyone likes a winner.

  28. SufferingSince76 Says:

Why the fear? Everything being said is more bulletin board material. Bucs will crush the WFT! That will be the only remaining violence near DC!
