Report: Taysom Hill, Latavius Murray “Not Likely”

January 17th, 2021

It appears a couple of Bucs killers will not play today.

NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport is Twittering this morning that Saints’ No. 2 quarterback Taysom Hill and his bad knee are “not likely” to play against the Bucs tonight. And the same goes for veteran running back Latavius Murray (quad muscle).

Each practiced Friday but was listed then as questionable for today.

If this is accurate, and Joe wouldn’t trust Sean Payton with a Netflix password, then Joe sees it as a significant break for the Bucs.

This Bucs defense has struggled with Hill and mobile quarterbacks in general, and it was Murray, not Alvin Kamara, that had modest success against Tampa Bay on opening day.

If Hill his out, you-know-who moves up to No. 2 quarterback.

  1. Jmarkbuc Says:

Won’t believe it until I see it

  2. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

If they are questionable, they will suit up.

  3. Mr no rings Says:

I don’t believe that for a second…. that’s Sean Peyton being Sean Peyton

  4. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Would we put it past the poisonous Payton to plant this story in hopes of some misdirection? No way…

  5. Mike Says:

Is it possible Winston comes in and lights up Bucs defense? I’ve been wandering how the D would handle.

  6. Conte Piscateli Says:

It’s a bs move by the Saints with Hill. Dudes head bounced off the dome turf and they have been calling it a knee to keep him out of the concussion protocol.

  7. ModHairKen Says:

Don’t trust Payton near your medicine cabinet, either.

  8. Hawk Says:

**If** Hill is a scratch, that would be good news. He is a better version of Heinicke. The Buccaneer defense has not proven to have an answer for this type of QB.

  9. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Well, our Buckeroos had plenty of misdirection last weekend when they thought Alex Smith would be starting. So, which back up for the Saints will our defense make to look like they belong in the Hall of Fame today?

  10. Pete Mitchell Says:

Definitely going to steal the expression “I wouldn’t trust so and so with a Netflix password”

    Just so everyone is clear.

  11. Mike Says:

Could Winston light up Bucs and lead Aints to a win? I been thinking about this and me thinks it could happen, I’ve heard no talk about this.

  12. Reddington Neck Shores Says:

    RoJo? Any intel there?

  13. @Hands2theface Says:

Deonte Harris in motion with Kamara is a scary thought. D better put on a tackling clinic today.

  14. Godlovesbucs Says:

Rojo participated in walkthru saturday. Is a game time decision today.

  15. Listnfrmafar Says:

Someone mentioned in an earlier post about special teams one.of the worst in the league. I am not sure why BA is discounting this, field position is huge especially in PO’s. For Gods sake please put Scotty back for KO’s and punts.

  16. JimBuc2 Says:

Great metaphor, for sure. Then again I don’t watch Netflix for three very good reasons:
    1. B. Obama is a major stockholder
2 Netflix published child porn disaster ‘Cuties’ . ’nuff said.
    3. Netflix is an unapologetic platform for leftwing ideology.
I’ll gladly fork over $100 for my NFL Gamepass. Netflix? Not on my watch.
Lookout Sean Payton, we are coming to your place tonight with a very large bone to pick.
    Go Bucs!

  17. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Man, it would be wonderful if Hill doesn’t play. That leaves Brees, who can’t throw it over 25 yards and Jay Miss, who can’t hit the broad side of a barn.

  18. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

JimBuc2, watch out for those black helicopters…..

  19. Kentucky Buc Says:

Believe it when u see it. Peyton plays by his own rules.

  20. alton green Says:

one thing i have noticed. 90% of commentators have always said “never bet against Tom Brady” well not for this game. Why? Tompa doesn’t play defense. There’s nothing he can do about that except try to outscore them. Maybe instead of blitzing 12 players, try some pass defense. Our secondary looked like they was playing dodge ball last week against Heineken. If they are the same, LOOK OUT! I will probably change the channel to the Simpsons after the first qtr

  21. SlyPirate Says:

    This is big news …
    1. Hill and Murray rushed for +100 yards last game vs Bucs
    2. White is back. If he sacks Brees, Winston comes in.

Winston vs Brady in NFC South playoff game would be AMAZING!

  22. Listnfrmafar Says:

Correct Brady does not play defense but he can institute long drives and help keep NO offense off the field. There is nothing we can write that will change to outcome so ctoss all your fingers & let’s hope it’s a fun night.

  23. Ed Says:

Jim Buc 2: Netflix wont miss your business, they’ll survive without you.

Joe brings up a great point about tackling. One of the reason the overrated Rams defense was carved up at Green Bay was because of missed tackles on short throws to Packer receivers and Packers running backs being hit at the LOS and spinning out of tackles.

Green Bay’s game plan was perfect, they kept the Rams off balance and Aaron Rodgers’ short passing later opened up the deep ball.

I hope Arians and Leftwich have figured out how to change things up so the Saints defense doesn’t know what’s coming. The Fox broadcast team noted multiple times that when the ball is coming out quickly you cannot give the 8/9 yard cushion. Most of Licht’s premium draft picks were physical, long corners. Bring them up on the receivers and have them use their hands to disrupt the timing. I doubt the Saints expect man coverage as Bowles has been playing zone during the winning streak and passers have all had high percentage of completions because the catch it 7 yards to open spot and the the pass catcher breaks a couple of tackles and it’s 15-17 yards.

I would take the chances and get up in the faces of the Saint receivers. Cmon Bruce roll the dice on defense, what you did against the Saints before was a failure, mix it up this time. Payton and staff are too smart to game plan vs predictable teams.

  24. The Red Mirage Says:

You know who is always a number 2, a number 2 you leave in a toilet that is.

  25. MadMax Says:

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! Jaboo throws our TD’s for us and the D outscores our O!

    Please, God Please…

Ive been saying it all week, we’re gonna spank the aints….Brees going down and then you know who.

  26. Bangkok Buc Says:

    JimBuc2,
Please stay away from DC for a while will ya.

  27. Brady is a cheater Says:

    48-3 Saints.

  28. Bird Says:

    Brady is a cheater.

    Hahahaha
Hey ndog. You guys are scarred to come out. You guys are afraid to use original poster name. You call yourselves buc fans. But you are actually jameis nad warmers
Get lost. You guys are the worst
We would not be here with jameis. 40 tds and 12 picks. Thats balling. I mean are we even 8-8 with yah boy. Doubt it.

Defense still sucks and running game is a few yards short of the last 2 years under the turnover machine.

  29. Alanbucsfan Says:

If Hill is out, Bucs should play more man coverage and pressure Brees – he’s immobile and Bucs DB’s are good at man coverage- at least let Davis play man on Thomas.

  30. Bird Says:

    Nfl lists both as questionable.

But lets face it . Payton is not a good person. Remember bounty gate. Probably lying about injuries

  31. Adrnagy Says:

Who cares … put hill and Murray in uniform. And pls have them saints wear those funeral uni ,
    Go Bucs
    31-26

  32. Joe in Michigan Says:

Mike=Ndog (his undying love for Jameis makes this obvious)
Brady is a cheater=El Buco Realisto (same blithering idiocy, without the exclamation points)

  33. BDub Says:

Wet dream: Brees goes down at the end of the half with a tied game. JW starts the 2nd half. Q3 & 4 Bucs roll the Aints creating 4 turnovers and 1 game ending pick 6.

  34. Mitch Says:

Everyone talks about their soft coverage. One reason the Bucs play more soft zone is because they led the league in TD passes given up while playing man-to-man. They lead the league with 14 TD’s. It wasn’t that big of deal when the pass rush was getting home. Lately our pass rush seems tired. I hope they show up today. It’d be nice if they play 2 man all day and blitz Devin/ a DB. That will be the best opportunity for success against this Saints offense.

  35. Blogtalkfootball.com Says:

The Simpson’s are on FOX. Immediately following the game.

  36. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Alvin

    😂😂👍👍

  37. Alanbucsfan Says:

Mitch- D White needs to get after Brees and stop the run- use his speed- he sucks in pass coverage – man coverage will work IF (big if) Brees is hurried.

  38. TampaTown Says:

I don’t believe it. They’ll be out there. F’n Sean “Lucifer” Peyton. I cannot stand that guy and just want to punch him in the face.

  39. Bucsfanman Says:

Doesn’t matter either way. Line up and punch them in the mouth for 60 minutes!

We have to beat the Saints TEAM.

  40. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Hill is our version of Mike Edwards…….always questionable…..always plays….

  41. Joe in Michigan Says:

Exactly, Bucsfanman. It’s time for the Bucs to outbully the bully.

  42. Cobraboy Says:

On the Bucs side, this game boils down to how well Barrett and JPP play.

  43. BDub Says:

Let’s do this!! Beat these bastards and on to the frozen tundra!!!

  44. Jerry Says:

It’s likely the Bucs already prepped for him as if he’s playing. So any misdirection really doesn’t work this week.

Last week they prepped for Alex Smith and ended up with Heinicke and it was a problem. Not the same situation here.

  45. TampaTown Says:

Anyone else worried that both home teams and points favorite won yesterday?

  46. Bucman Says:

ESPN radio just said RoJo is playing tonight.

  47. Bird Says:

    Gronk on nfl network
Sounds like he will play another year in tampa.
Wow. He was fairly honest about guys coming back

  48. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Yes, this game boils down to how well Barrett and JPP play.
We must pressure Brees, because if he has all day back there, he will take us apart.

  49. Jmarkbuc Says:

Bottom line is they have slot of weapons to give our Defense fits… as do we.

It’s just that their Defense is much better. My sincerest wish is that our D at the very least, plays with some 🔥 and passion. Too often they seem to just stand around and let things happen to them. If this is Bowles philosophy, it’s time for him to go. Somebody get on the phone to Wade Phillips, or anyone who thinks a defense should have some balls.

  50. Defense Rules Says:

TampaTown … MAYBE the Bills & Packers won because they were the better teams. Oh wait, that’s why they got home field advantage & were the points favorites.

On the season, the Saints were the better team (12-4 division winner?). But the Bucs are peaking at the right time & we just MIGHT be the better team at this point. We’ll find out in a few hours, won’t we.

  51. Listnfrmafar Says:

TampaTown that’s great that both home teams won because KC is going to kick Cleveland’s backsides which leaves the Bucs as only upset. Still don’t get why NFL has one NFC team play on Sat and one on Sun, one less day to recoup. Definitely an advantage no matter who wins tonight.

  52. Cobraboy Says:

I just re-watched quick versions of the Week 9 debacle at home with the Saints.

After the last few weeks, it looked like a different team playing, especially on offense.

Here are two fun facts that illustrate what I mean:

    1) The Bucs ran ZERO play-action pass plays. ZERO. None. Nada. And the Saints DL just frickin’ teed off.

    2) The Bucs ran 7 plays with some kind of motion, including small motion. But no motion completely across the formation.

Compared to the last few weeks when motion and play-action were, by far, the norms, it looked weird. And compared to the last few weeks, Brady never looked confident and comfortable in Week 9.

Like I said, it looked like a completely different Bucs offense that game.

  53. Brady is a cheater Says:

Bucs fans must be smoking mid grade if they think they have a chance

  54. Kentucky Buc Says:

Brady is in your head man.lol

  55. Joe in Michigan Says:

Brady is a cheater: You come up with the weakest posts since El Buco Realisto went missing. Coincidence, or are you one in the same?

  56. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Cobraboy:
    3) Bucs receivers and Brady were Not on same page – receivers breaking off routes and overthrows

  57. Colonel Angus Says:

I’m gonna defend Bowles. 2 years we fielded a truly garbage defense. They made a giant leap last year to middle of the pack, would have been better had the offense not turned the ball over 41 times, including 7 pick sixes. This year Bucs are a top 10 defense, actually top 8 (6th in yards and 8th in points, and Brady gave up 2 pick sixes and the ST gave up a return TD). Our pass defense gives all nightmares I agree. It’s all about the pressure, if we are getting after the QB, hitting him, sacking him, making him throw early, it can be a formidable unit. Hopefully tonight the pass rush unleashes Hell on Brees. Bucs seem to show up when nobody expects them to. Need to remember Jan. 19, 2003, the last time the Bucs had no chance vs. a team that supposedly had their number. I’m ready to get this on! Go Bucs!

P.S. – All the trolls can eat sh!t

  58. Bird Says:

    Cobraboy

The first game was slop fest. They have played better in NO over the years then at home. Only 2-3000 fans too in NO so not a factor.

That first game has so many penalties too for us. On both sides. Which makes sense as first game of year

Brady two picks. Both 2 or 3rd in long cause penalty just happened
Brady thought make going long on one when he checked up
Brady on other was an out to justin watson which will never happen again cause watson did screw brady and jameis when here.

  59. DaBux Says:

    Poetic Justice.

Uber grabbing crab claw thieving Jaboo comes in and throws the game winning TD via an interception to Dean.

    Make it so.

  60. Mitch Says:

It comes down to trenches. Next Gen Stats released the Bucs were first in pressure weeks 1-8. Since week 9 Tampa has been 21st. What changed?

Also the Saints have been 1st since week 9 at generating pressure.

The trenches will determine this game.

  61. Defense Rules Says:

I second your P.S. Colonel Angus.

Tomorrow all the trolls will crawl back under their bridges after the Bucs win.

  62. UKBuccaneer Says:

I don’t care what anyone says – the Saints knew what we were doing last time – they had intel, likely from Jameis. I don’t mind admitting a team is better, but they ain’t that much better.

This is Brady in the playoffs. This is a different kettle of fish. The team should be angry, and they should be looking to shut Jameis and Payton up in their own building.

  63. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Any word on Whitehead?

  64. SlyPirate Says:

    UKBuccaneer … quick question.

    “A different kettle of fish.”

Is that a real UK saying? Is it a different kettle or different fish in the kettle? Now I’m hungry for fish and chips.

  65. Elita Vita Says:

Looking for Brady to utilize more of Gronk and Brown in this game. Show the Saints a lot of new plays. It may come down to coaching so Arians and company need to give it their all.

  66. Cannon Says:

The Saints will trot out Winston for a few deep bombs. Calling it now

  67. Defense Rules Says:

Mitch … Vea gave us 5 games & our DLine kicked ass for those 5 games. Take away the 2 Pick-6’s in those 5 games & our D allowed 19.6 PPG … about 1 FG LESS than the 22.1 PPG average that our D has allowed in the 11 games we’ve played since Vea went down. Our sacks suffered some (17 sacks in the first 5 games vs 31 in the 11 games since then), and our takeaways also suffered (9 takeaways in the first 5 games vs 16 in the last 11 games).

Vea made a huge difference IMO, and since his loss we’ve had to find other ways to get pressure on opposing QBs. Our defense has slipped somewhat since Vea went down, but I think it was a CHOICE to give up some things to ‘hold the line’ on some other things. I think that CHOICE involved continuing to focus on stopping the run as a priority, even more blitzing from our LBs to try to keep pressure on at the expense of surrendering more passes completed, while trying to ensure that we don’t give up explosive plays. I think it worked to a degree (we did end up ranked #8 in Points Allowed), but it sure was frustrating to watch.

  68. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Elite

Gronk gonna be blocking.. look for Brate.

  69. Mike C Says:

I wonder if the Aints will just choke again, I suppose that would give us a chance……

  70. Cobraboy Says:

@Bird: I didn’t watch the first game, aka “The Preseason”, for numerous reasons.

It is logical a team that had been together for years—keep in mind the cap games played by NO to “keep the band together” means they are +$95 million over the cap come 2021-2022—would execute far better than a team with many new moving parts, especially at QB.

I was more concerned with Week 9.

And it, too, as a slop fest. Even Wirfs whiffed twice, and LG Haeg was AWOL.

  71. Cobraboy Says:

I agree with DR: losing Vea was a near death-blow to this D, changed everything.

That massive immovable object in the middle made Barrett’s and JPP’s job far easier.

    There was no replacing Vea.

  72. Bucfanforever Says:

Last couple games McCleadon was missing too. He’s no Vea, but it makes them even weaker up front. Back today though.

    Go Bucs!!

  73. Mike C Says:

Don’t you mean deep picks Cannon…

  74. Jmarkbuc Says:

Wonder if Leftwich has a jet sweep with a pitch out to Rojo?

  75. Caleb Lee Says:

Beating the W out if Winston’s mouth sounds like an amazing divisional championship game.

  76. OBF Says:

I have seen the future of NFL quarterbacking and it is not a pocket passer
Loved the green bean 100% commercial which got me thinking did Jameis ever make a commercial?

  77. Listnfrmafar Says:

No idea what Defense Rules is talking about, he must be a Vea relative. He sucked in game 1 and went offsides on a 4th & 2 that led to a score. Bucs lost 2 out of first 5 games and barely snuck by Chargers. Last 3 losses came to PO teams and other than Saints blowout KC Rams & Bears combined total points was 7, without Vea. Nit exactly the Xfactor. Sorry I hope you can get the VV tattoo removed.

  78. Cannon Says:

    @Mike C

    That’s what I’m hoping 🙂

  79. View from 132 Says:

The stage is set now…. 4th quarter, last drive, Brees gets knocked out.

    Jameis vs the Bucs D

  80. Beej Says:

Love to see them open with (What SAINTS assume) is the typical run up the middle for 1.3 yards, but what’s ACTUALLY a play-action 50 yard bomb. Whether it works or not, would love to see it

  81. Mitch Says:

Thanks DR! That was good info. I agree with you and Cobra that Vita Vea was the MVP to the defense before he went down.

  82. Rod Munch Says:

Well there is normally at least one upset each round – and with KC destroying Cleveland it’s going to be up to Brady to make it happen…

  83. David Says:

If Hill does not play that is a break. Mobile quarterbacks don’t just hurt the Bucs, they hurt every team. It’s just an added element. This hurts New Orleans because they use him quite a bit to spell Brees.
The d- line needs to get after it

  84. Rod Munch Says:

The people who think Vita was anything more than a 2-down run stuffer are hilarious – they literally don’t know anything about football. Vita offers nothing in the pass game, and in critical shortage situations can you name a single time he made a key stop? Vita is a nice to have for non-critical and non-passing situations, but he’s not a game changer. People who think otherwise don’t know what they’re talking about.

  85. SB Says:

Is it Flippin game time yet?!

  86. Joe in Michigan Says:

How weak do you gotta be to fantasize about a 3rd string QB getting in a game because of injuries?

  87. SB Says:

Funny Rod, I have yet to hear one person who evaluate football for a living agree with that take of yours

  88. Rod Munch Says:

SB – The only people who praise him like he’s a big deal are people who DON’T watch the team, who just know the rep. I’ve heard plenty of football people who scout for a living say he’s vastly overrated – at least compared to those who think he’s an all-pro. He’s not a bad player or anything, he’s just not done anything special in his career. He helps in the run game and offers basically nothing in the pass game. Another way to know this is by just looking at his numbers, pressures, sacks and stuffs.

  89. Rod Munch Says:

The Browns fumble through the endzone… LOL!

  90. Rod Munch Says:

    That’s hilarious.

  91. Leighroy Says:

The amount if ignorance on display in this particular thread would be hysterical if not already played out. JBF needs a voting option on comments

  92. Godlovesbucs Says:

Vita is of the siragusa, ngata type. Take up multiple bodies with an interior push, allow the edges 1 on 1 matchups, or open lanes for blitzers behind. Neither tony or ngata had 6 or more sacks in a season. But they wer a terror on all 3 downs for an offensive line. Ngatas best season he had 14 qb hits, last year vita had 12. In his 2nd season. He is a 3 down player for any d in the league when he is healthy.

  93. Rod Munch Says:

“He is a 3 down player for any d in the league when he is healthy.”

Except he literally wasn’t a 3 down player, and he misses like half his games with injuries.

He’s not a special player. It doesn’t mean he’s not an NFL player and that he never makes a play, but he’s just not special. Sorry folks, that’s just a fact. As Sapp pointed out before we drafted Vita, the guy is too fat to play in the heat – that’s why he sits out every training camp with an ‘injury’ – he’s clearly soft.

If he comes back next year, plays for more than a handful of games and becomes an all-pro then feel free to throw this back in my face. Unlike most of you fake fans, I want the Bucs to succeed and I don’t root for our draft picks to be busts.

  94. Cobraboy Says:

@Rod Munch: I disagree about Vea. His push up the middle, occupying at least two guys, *prevents* the QB from stepping up into the pocket to avoid the edge.

    This feeds the edge rushers.

  95. Rod Munch Says:

Cobraboy – It’s not Facebook here so you’re allowed to have a different opinion without the FBI knocking down your door and throwing in you Gitmo.

I disagree, and that comes from watching him play, I don’t see that. But if you do, fair enough.

  96. Cobraboy Says:

On another note, Gronk says he wants to come back in 2021.

  97. Mitch Says:

Literally Vea led the league in disruption because he would put two grown men trying to block him 1.5-2 yards BEHIND the line of scrimmage. He took the blocks and reset the line so his teammates could make plays. That is why he is an all-pro type of NT.

  98. Bird Says:

Quick shout out to the messiah cult

You know they are rooting for bucs to lose
    😂

Gronk says he wants to come back to play with brady next year
    There’s some amazing news.

Defense has ti play out of their minds tonight
    Go bucs!

  99. SB Says:

I think we got this sh!t today boys

  100. Mitch Says:

Vea was 7th in pass rush win % for DT’s.

  101. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

Is anyone else here a nervous freaking wreck?

  102. Listnfrmafar Says:

Can Vea run 5 yards? I heard it to in his interview Gronk staying.

  103. firethecannons Says:

good to have Taysom Hill out–dude is a Bucs soul killer his trick plays always work when up against the Bucs It would be sweet to see Brees out with more ribs and Jameis in

  104. SB Says:

I thought Rojo had Stone hands. Nick Chubb is making Rojo looks like an all pro wide receiver

  105. Dp4life22 Says:

Hill will play this is mind games saints coach is playing

  106. Rod Munch Says:

Mitch – Lead the league in ‘disruption’? What made up stat is that from?

His actual stats are 2.5 sacks, 24 tackles, 3.9 tackles for loss, 3.7 QB hits and 3.0 missed tackles per year… He’s never been an all-pro because he’s not one.

More stats… he has 13 QB hurries and 35 pressures…. TOTAL, over 3 seasons.

Those numbers are fairly pedestrian even for NT. He did them in a lesser number of games than normal, but even accounting for that there’s not a single number that stands out.

It sounds like I’m bagging on the guy, I’m not – just can’t stand the people who think he makes or breaks the defense, he doesn’t.

What happened with the defense was Bowles started to coach scared. Early in the year he blitzed a lot more, lead the league – then he just stopped. Over the 2nd half of the year I think he’s like 10th-14th in blitzing. That comes with the Bucs falling hard in defensive ranking.

If the Bucs want to win today, they need to blitz and try jamming the WRs at the line – they can’t let Brees sit back and get into a rhythm. If they play balls out and lose, then so be it, but to sit back in a soft zone and get sliced apart, that would be disgraceful.

  107. BucsFanFromSaintsLand Says:

I am right there with ya, Bucs Fan Since ’76!

  108. Rod Munch Says:

Also if you really want to rub it in – the player the Bucs traded away to get Vita and MJ Stewart was Josh Allen… Ouch.

With that said the Bucs didn’t need a QB at the time, but MJ Stewart and Vita = Josh Allen… Ouch.

  109. TampaTown Says:

Bucs fan: I’m dying over here. I’m gonna smoke something then start drinking

  110. TampaTown Says:

Firethecannons: Has Taysom been ruled out officially?

  111. Rod Munch Says:

That’s good news on Gronk, although it does likely mean Brate is out, he’s going to make $6.5m while OJ will make $6m. Also with the Bucs cash crunch, I wonder what they’d be able to pay him. But if he wants back, then you bring him back, you do whatever makes Brady happy.

  112. Bucs Fan Since ‘76 Says:

Part of me feels like this is a 2002 Iggles replay. Part of me is sick thinking about our secondary. Praying it’s the former. LFG!

  113. SB Says:

At Bucs fan since 76. I also have been a fan since 76. And who the heck wouldn’t be nervous right now.? And at Tampa town, I am way ahead of you LOL

  114. Ben the GA Buc Says:

Both are officially out per a tweet a saw come through a moment ago.

  115. Rod Munch Says:

    Bucs inactives:

    QB Ryan Griffin
    WR Justin Watson
    RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn
    S Javon Hagan
