‘My First Pick!”

January 26th, 2021

Young Jason Licht

More celebration footage is trickling out from the Bucs’ historic “W” at Lambeau field on Sunday.

Of course, given the COVID world, most of it is from the Buccaneers.

In the video below, you can see general manager Jason Licht embracing Mike Evans and shouting to those around him that Evans “is my first pick.”

Of course, Licht is referring to Evans being the No. 7 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. The selection stood the test of time, and it also resulted in being a big reason that The Goat himself, Tom Brady, chose the Buccaneers as his 2020 destination.

Licht should be proud. Joe has a hunch that Lovie Smith wasn’t standing on a table begging for Evans all winter.

For those curmudgeon Bucs fans who are saying, “Licht should have drafted Aaron Donald and taken Packers star receiver Davante Adams in Round 2,” Joe has a something to tell you: Shutup!!!

Just think if Joe as GM

And with joes first pick as GM of the tampa bay buccaneers…they select johnny Manziel

  3. FactTeller Says:

LFG Congrats Kings!!! ONE MORE TO GO!!!

  4. Kentucky Buc Says:

These ceremonies crack me up. Reminds me of when Brady beat the Chiefs in Arrowhead. They had a ceremony in a little corner of the locker room. Pretty much the same here. League had a big ceremony planned for the pack so the Bucs got the bare bones treatment. Better that way.

  5. Casual Observer Says:

One more to go is right. Please follow the covid protocol – only two more weeks! Then time to party.

  6. PSL Bob Says:

Love it for Evans! It’s good for all the Bucs, but Evans and David really deserve it for their play and patience.

  7. Soggy Says:

Thank you to all at the Bucs Organization. Bucs relevant again..Oh Ya…

  8. Joe Says:

And with joes first pick as GM of the tampa bay buccaneers…they select johnny Manziel

    LOVE Johnny!

  9. Kentucky Buc Says:

    Young Jason above ^^^

  12. Kev@Inverness Says:

Come on Bird, lighten up on Joe. Most of us here have something in common with Johnny. We haven’t thrown a NFL touchdown in 4 years! 😂
“You guys are funny. The Bucs needed a quarterback. There was nothing good in free agency. Joe lobbied hard for Johnny or Bridgewater. Joe doesn’t regret that. Who knew Licht and Lovie signing all those 2014 free agents was a calculated effort to tank for Jameis? 🙂 –Joe

  13. WiscoJoe Says:

    LOVE ME SOME MIKE EVANS

  14. Jim Says:

    Love it!

  15. ocala Says:

Not sure if it is true Joe, but the rumor was the Bucs were very high on Evans and Donald. The Bucs had McCoy so they went with Evans. If true, Jason Licht did a great job with his evaluation in 2014 since both will end up in the HOF.

  16. geno711 Says:

I was admittedly a Johnny M fan as well.
All us arm chair GM’s are wrong quite a bit.

  17. bojim Says:

Seven 1000 yd. seasons in a row. That should shut most everybody up.

  18. JimbobBucsFan Says:

    Ha! 😄

At least someone looked far enough ahead to have the NFC Champion jerseys ready for the Bucs! 😋😏🤤

  19. Cobraboy Says:

Y’all need to RageGoogle “Drew Magary: Shut up about Tom Brady forever”

My first impression is the writer is not a Brady or Bucs fan… ;D

  20. D-Rome Says:

Thank God he didn’t listen to Joe and draft Johnny Foosball.

  21. Lamarcus Guiton Says:

Aaron Donald is waaayyyy better than ME13 and it’s not a knock. Me13 is the “no yac” man. Catch and he is guaranteed to fall down voluntarily. Now Aaron Donald is player that probably comes every 20 years or so.

  22. Listnfrmafar Says:

HMMM, I like Evan’s but Donald & Adam’s on this team wouldn’t suck.

  23. Casual Observer Says:

I do remember Joe’s relentless complaints about picking Evans over Johnny Football. Joe’s biggest mistake – but he doesn’t make very many.

  24. DaBux Says:

I am so happy for all the players that had to suffer with Jameis and all the other dregs we’ve endured over the years as coaches and players. We have to do this.
    All the damned way.

  25. Stanglassman Says:

I don’t think Joe was saying ME was better than Donald he’s saying people acting like they knew all along years later is just some weak azz sh!t.

  26. Brent Clark Says:

I love it when he says “Ceremony? I’m new to this man” he deserves this I’m sure it’s only been a fantasy for years now a reality!

  27. BucEmUp Says:

Remember when everyone hated licht? Wow the tides turned

  28. Buc1987 Says:

I used to say starting McCown was the tank for Jameis.

  29. James Leventis Says:

Man, Jason should be proud and given the spot light and #13 is the man and my favorite buc. They both deserve it. I had a friend in the nfl circle that draft and said he went into the draft and had z martin, evans and donald as the only ones hed take in that spot with no plans to trade up, maybe down if he’d still get one of those. Great pick… #13 is a HOFer

  30. James Leventis Says:

@bucemup…. and rightly so, but he changed and improved and got it right He was lead in getting BA which got TB and he learned from mistakes.

    Not even that often.

  32. Dan Williamson Says:

Neva give up, never lose focus. Hes said it….ONE MORE! LETS FREAKIN’ GOOOOOOOO!

  33. D-Rome Says:

I used to say starting McCown was the tank for Jameis.

Of course it was which is why it’s silly people blame Lovie Smith for a 2-14 season and hold it against him. Tanking was always the plan. Dirk Koetter’s last two seasons were *worse* than Lovie’s last season and he had far better and more experienced talent.

  34. gotbbucs Says:

Ha, if Joe had his way we would have had Manziel at QB with Trent Richardson lined up behind him at RB. Let’s also not forget that Joe didn’t want anything to do with drafting Devin White either.
