Jordan Whitehead Talks Matching The Saints, Emotional Revival Behind Devin White

January 19th, 2021

It’s not often that a Bucs game is more fun to watch the second or third time, but that’s the case with Sunday’s historic beat down of the Saints.

Why? Because Tampa Bay was the more physical and nasty team.

Third-year safety and heck-of-a-fourth-round pick Jordan Whitehead was on the Buccaneers Radio Network last night talking about how the Bucs were determined to match the loud, physical and always-energetic Saints with their own juice all throughout the game.

In some ways, that likely started with Todd Bowles taking a much more aggressive approach on defense and the Bucs being determined to run the ball — pound the rock — on offense.

Whitehead praised his teammates for getting the job done and out-nastying the Saints on a play-by-play basis.

“I think we did better than matched it. I know every play somebody was saying something, something was going on,” Whitehead said.

Joe loved it. Ryan Jensen and Ali Marpet were dishing out all kinds of physicality to the whistle, and the nation witnessed Devin White looking like the best and most electrified player on the field.

Whitehead brushed off White’s interception as a massive contribution. He said everything White was about on Sunday was a difference-maker.

“The overall game he had was even bigger, flying around making sure everybody was juiced up. You know, we missed him the last two weeks,” Whitehead said. “I know one time [during Sunday’s game] he was like, ‘Hey, you all missed me, huh?’ It was just funny because he was out there balling [and saying that]. We definitely missed his energy.”

Joe’s all fired up about the new-look, take-no-prisoners Bucs. If White can keep the defense mauling and balling, then Joe’s not sure how the Packers will keep the Bucs from marching to the Super Bowl.

The Hall of Fame selectors gather today — on ZOOM — to present, argue and vote on the Class of 2021. Hall of Famer Derrick Brooks and Tampa’s only voter, Ira Kaufman, talk about the John Lynch, Rondé Barber and More. Enjoy, via The Identity Tampa Bay and Joe.

White good in coverage now? Watch the F out!

I think a few weeks ago people were saying we did not have ONE all pro on the D and I said I’ll take a new player stepping up each week. I love it. and love to SMB as well, he’s taken some heat…..nice that he changed the tone. These guys were on fire. It was so good wish I had a couple less beers in me to focus on it. Might have to go with iced T this weekend.

    Go Bucs!!

Joe you’re getting me so geeked.

    The dayum Super Bowl.

Wow can you imagine that? Phew!

    Go Bucsa!!!

  3. Casual Observer Says:

The D game plan was so much better too. Adjustments were made. Lots of bright posters here (better observers of the game than I am) have made some pretty astute observations about needed changes on the D. Hope (maybe) some of the coaches occasionally read this fine blog.

We are about to make history!!! I feel ya Rob I was toasted btw.
Getting Vea back will just be cherry on top.
    LFG!!!

  5. mg Says:

When the D plays with that intensity it is intimidating.

  6. aj Says:

He was good in coverage. Even outside the pick. He grabbed my eyes a few times in pass protection. Usually, that is a bad thing, but on Sunday they were all good plays.

  7. Bucamania Says:

I noticed White and Fournette jawing with Saints players all game. Loved it!

And Jensen was driving players into the turf.

    Mauling and balling
    😂

    Great line joes

    —-

Speaking of jensen. Man he got reemed by a ton of people in first year.
That guy has become the enforcer / gladiator of oline
Jason licht another amazing free agent signing
You could argue he is one of better centers in nfl
And jensen pinned a guy WWF style during game. I was dying

Think about the physicality of this line ?
Where is the week spot now. Donovan smith struggles at times but not many others have given up any/ to many sacks this year

  9. Mike Says:

You know you’re in trouble if the Bucs D shows up and plays like they’re capable of.

  10. 813bucboi Says:

i forgot kwon was on the saints too…lol…he was talking trash too…

him and JW can both eat Ls….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  11. ModHairKen Says:

This team has all of the players necessary to be physical. But all season, the scheme did not seem to be geared towards it.

Now, the DBs are on the WRs at the line, smothering them, holding them when necessary , and making them pay. The running game on Offense is suddenly dominant.

    It’s like they were unleashed.

  12. Mike pizzoli Says:

If vita vea can return this week and solidify the middle of the d-line it’s going to help so much against the Packers rushing attack. A.J Dillon is emerging and Aaron jones can be a handful but GO BUCS!!!

Loved the way the O line always had some one pushing the pile You could see the saints getting passed. It seemed like every play it was a direct buc pealing a saint off the pile
