Even Former Bucs Know It

January 19th, 2021

GMC sees it too.

A lot of Bucs fans — Joe included — shriek in horror upon seeing Bucs corners lining up nine-yards off the receiver on third-and-six.

Why? Why would you do that? Why would all but give up a first down before the ball is snapped?

The Bucs, when they play man defense, often play well defensively. When they play really soft zone, well, welcome home Mike Smith.

So Joe finds it more than interesting when an NFL defensive player watching a Bucs game takes to Twitter to tell the Bucs to stay in man-coverage.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Joe knows a bunch of Bucs fans cannot stand Gerald McCoy. Joe still believes some day he will have his name in the Ring of Honor. To ignore what he did in his prime for the Bucs just tells Joe your hate blinds you.

If you cannot stand GMC that much, consider that GMC is no longer a Bucs player. That will comfort you.

Anyway, GMC played for horrific defensive coordinators here. Joe specifically means “The Smiths.” So while GMC — who has always been on the Bucs bandwagon — was watching the NFC divisional game against the slimy Saints, Joe found a tweet of his very interesting.

Check that out. “Bucs stay in man and match up.” Hell, even NFL players watching on TV can see this. It isn’t just fans.

Joe sure hopes Bucs defensive coordinator Todd Bowles doesn’t monkey around with a soft zone in Green Bay come Sunday.

This game will be won if Playoff Lenny and RoJo the bad MoFo can average 3-5 yards per rush.

  2. Clean House Says:

Bucs earned that game, played amazing. Clearly we were gifted by the Saints injury situation.

  3. Buc1987 Says:

No doubt the GOAT Vitale. Bouncing all around at 81.

Yes Bowles don’t get cute with GB. Stick with what works.

    Go Bucs!!!

  4. Alanbucsfan Says:

Packers took 2nd half kickoff vs Rams and marched 75 yards ALL on the ground for 25-10 lead.
Don’t think that’s happening vs Bucs.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There is no question that we benefited from the Taysom Hill injury….evidence of that was the one play where Winston was in…..
The Saints had limited options with Hill out….and we took advantage.

  6. Tampabuscsbro Says:

LOL Some fan Clean House is.

He probably thinks the saints would have won the game if his boy Jameis started.

And if Jameis started he would root for the saints to win.

  7. WiscoJoe Says:

Joe it would be great if you could ask Bowles why he continues with the soft zone when it’s clear that they do much better in man. I know if you piss off coaches they tend to shy away from questions so if you think that’ll happen obviously don’t but I’d love to know.

  8. adam from ny Says:

    @clean house:

no way…we were just as injured if not more…

whether injured before this game or any other, a loss of a player is a loss of a player…

    vita
    oj
    aq shipley
cichy broke arm in the game
    tj logan
    barner

AB was out like half the game…

    wtf gimme a break

    shall i keep going ????????????????????????

  9. Tampabuscsbro Says:

We also had a right guard starting his first game adam.

  10. adam from ny Says:

    ummm…

    cappa

  11. adam from ny Says:

    can someone please put …

@ Clean House on injured reserve…

so we can have the next man up 🙂

  12. Robert Says:

never hated on gmc…he’s just got no nasty in him. they should sign him as a cheerleader

  13. Buc1987 Says:

Sure. The Saints were soooo limited by just having meager Drew Brees at QB instead of Hill running wildcats. Drew’s still a helluva QB last time I checked…well not so much in his last game….but…it’s still Drew Brees.

    What a goober Clean House.

  14. Buc1987 Says:

Admit it….you were cheering when Winston threw that TD.

  15. Bird Says:

Clean house = clean male jock

  16. adam from ny Says:

also jameis sorta of offset the loss of tayson hill a little by making the huge play for a touchdown..

    payton is no idiot…

he knew he needed to replace some of hills production with something, so he pulled the super gadget out his back pocket

  17. Bird Says:

That dicky V clip is hilarious.

That shows about as exciting we can get at that age. He was trying to move around ecstatically but just couldnt get there
    Love it.

  18. Sourbob Says:

Sorry it wasn’t just T Hill being out, someone flipped a switch with this defense! Keep it up this Sunday.

  19. adam from ny Says:

    also…

thank God we didn’t lose, and more so by like 3 points…

because then the jameis gadget play would have actually had “value”…

if it was labeled a “game changing play”…omg, everyone would be going crazy, as then jameis came back to “haunt the bucs”…

the play had the potential to be one of the biggest most talked about plays of the game, if it was deemed important…

in the end it just turned out to be an:

“oh wow, we got caught sleeping play…ok next”

  20. adam from ny Says:

also special teams really needs to get on the ball…

all those missed tackles on those huge punt returns was horrible…

than needs to get fixed fast AF…

    even mickens…

you can’t just bounce off a dude and expect him to go down…gotta wrap up…

this is the playoffs – hang on for dear life if necessary

  21. JimmyJack Says:

Man McCoy can light up a room. Look at that smile!

Listening to the podcast Joe said we got a pretty good grade on the Wirfs draftclass.

My mind wandered to the 2018 draftclass. I think you get a better sense just how good or great…..or awful a player is after 3.

    Check it out
    -Vita V
    -RoJo III
    -MJ Stewart
    -Carlton Davis
    -Jordon Whitehead
    -Justin Whitehead
    -Justin Watson
    -Jack Cichy

    UNDRAFTED Tanner Hudson

Holy crap, Im no draft student but you arent gotta be to see that is one heck of a draft. The only thing missing is a pro bowl honor. Theres no way you can say Carlton hasent played at a ProBowl level….Can almost say the same thing about Ronald too!

  22. JimmyJack Says:

    Jordan Whitehead**

  23. Cobraboy Says:

@adam: I’m not sure Clean Houses whiny butthurt qualifies for IR…

  24. Cali_mike Says:

    Let’s go Lenny BIG TIME!!!

  25. Cobraboy Says:

Please: No McCoy in the RoH.

Putting his name next to greats demeans the RoH.

I can think of several Bucs who deserve that honor waaaaaaay before Mr. Softy.

  26. SmoothBayRider Says:

    Hey Clean House ……… S my C !

  27. Pewter Power Says:

Even gmc was horrified at that deep ball shot called on a freaking 3rd and 1. Pretty everyone watching the game said why

  28. Hodad Says:

Only took two years to remove his losing stench from the locker room. Cutting McCoy was the second best thing Licht, and Arains ever did. Number one, replacing Winston with Brady.

  29. stpetebucsfan Says:

So we have the blueprint for next year. If it’s Hill…D White will keep him honest…if it’s JW we’ll get to him with the rush…IF we play man and not zone.

  30. 123urout Says:

I love Gerald McCoy he is such a teddy bear…. just like when he is on the field, soft and cuddly…. hahahaha

  31. Mr no rings Says:

Really ring of honor??? For what exactly? Any coincidence to the fact that once he left the Defense he’ll the whole team started to get mean?? Well he DID buy everyone ice cream so there is that. Sheesh expectations sure are low.

  32. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Mr no rings,

Maybe having a different coaching staff and having guys like Devin White, Shaq Barrett, and Antoine Winfield may have made more of a difference than being mean? You really think Suh has done anything that McCoy couldn’t do? Get over your hatred. It’s sad.

  33. Ftmyersbuc Says:

The reason we dont play man all the time is because if the opposing quarterback can run he will torch you taking off. Look at every big lamar Jackson run. Defense was in man and with their backs turned to the qb by the time they realize he’s running its too late. Now a rod is not lamar but he can still get 10 yds on you. All expect a little more zone. Also he actually make every throw on the field, unlike drew.

  34. 813bucboi Says:

    screw GMC…

glad we sent him packin too!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  35. Winny Testaverde Says:

Glad to hear from fan favorites McCoy and CleanHouse aka The ManMaid. Without their seal of approval…this win wasn’t complete!

  36. gotbbucs Says:

    @Hodad
It took way less than two years. As soon as Suh walked in the building and threw on #93 McCoy was forgotten.

    screw GMC…

glad we sent him packin too!!!!

I go along with this–glad we sent GMC packing, N.Suh is much better for the game and the lockerroom.

  38. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Suh makes big plays.

    Gerald makes friends.

  39. BucEmUp Says:

Been saying this crap for 10 freaking years.Other than when Shiano coached its been the same crap every year. Its like the Bucs have been legally bound to soft zone coverage. There is a time and a place but this team is built for press man and when they do play zone it needs to be tighter

  40. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

GMC better not go into the ROH before James Wilder or Hardy Nickerson, for starters. What effect did he honestly have? I don’t get it.

  41. orlbucfan Says:

Suh can get lost. GMC deserves to be here. He, LVD and ME13 became friends suffering through all the losing, the stupid inbred ownership decisions which produced a real carousel of HCs, staff and canning a GM. You can bet he and LVD are hooked up for this weekend. BTW, LeeRoy Selmon was also a class act on the field as well as off. So, can the GMC hate cos it’s stupid! Go Mighty Bucs!
