RoJo To Have Surgery

December 15th, 2020

Broken pinkie.

It seems Bucs running back Ronald Jones is going to be the next Chris Godwin.

Rotoworld.com has a story that RoJo, the NFL’s fourth-leading rusher with 900 yards, will go under the knife and have surgery on his pinkie that Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians said yesterday is possibly fractured.

Sounds more than just fractured to Joe if doctors plan to put pins in it.

Jones is having a pin inserted into his broken finger, the same procedure Chris Godwin underwent a few weeks ago. Godwin missed one game, so that seems like a reasonable expectation for Jones. Fresh off handling 19-of-25 backfield touches with Leonard Fournette a healthy scratch against the Vikings, Jones could be replaced by a committee of Fournette and LeSean McCoy in Week 15 against the Falcons.

As Rotoworld points out, this is good news for Leonard Fournette, who likely won’t be a healthy scratch next weekend at Atlanta.

With only one more win (and a little help) the Bucs could clinch a playoff berth Sunday. Given the Bucs are playing the lowly Dixie Chicks twice and the toothless Lions, RoJo’s injury, if it had to come, came at a good time.

Cut it off ! Like Ronnie did and play!

  2. anderson Fa Gonzalez Says:

if Fournette wants to revive his career, Sunday is the day for him to do it. Go Bucs.

  3. Steven007 Says:

Not the most important thing, playoffs are obviously, but would be a shame if he doesn’t get his thousand yards this year due to injury.

  4. chris L Says:

let him heal up but we should be ok with the other guys and hopefully fournette can actually do something. we need to establish the run against that defense

  5. Mitchd Says:

It was his left pinkie so I think he will play even if he is limited on Sunday.

  6. zzbuc Says:

Lots of faith on FOurnette, despite not having a good year…..
Rojo is a good RB, that´s all, he doesn´t block, he can´t catch, but he is a good runner….
As anderson Fa Gonzalez sayd, is a great chance for Fournette, and I have faith he will take care of business

  7. JimmyJack Says:

Hopefully we can run the score up in one of these final games. Then we might get a better look to see what the rookie Vaugn can do.

This is really a bummer for Ronald. He was primed to make a name for himself down the stretch. Yet theres no better chance to do that then in the playoffs. Luckily it sounds like he should be fine by then.

But really the Bucs have been really fortunate in the injury department. Fingers crossed that will continue. On top of that we are pretty deep at RB. We should be just fine even if our best player(sure why not) is out for a game or so.

  8. Jeff Says:

Gone for the last 3 games. Feature Fournette and sprinkle in Shady and Vaughn

  9. JimmyJack Says:

Zz is RoJo improving at blitz pickups? I havent watched him closely enough to say butbit certainly seems that way. I do know he did a fine job on at least one blitz on Sunday. Didnt notice much more then that.

  10. ArmchairGM Says:

Hope we see Vaughn instead. He’ll be on the team longer than this year and it would be nice to get him touches against a below average opponent. Fournette has been tentative and missed a wide open lane against the Rams. Hopefully he’ll back to his bruiser self this week.

  11. Casual Observer Says:

I think Mitchd is right. He likely will play Sunday.

  12. Oneilbucs Says:

Man I wanted him to get a 1,000 yards this year 😪 😒!!

  13. Tackleblockwin Says:

Wouldn’t mind seeing Vaughn more if he can pass block too. McCoy is a fumble waiting to happen because he carries the ball like he is playing flag football.

  14. Godlovesbucs Says:

I think he misses 1 game. Fournette was brought in for this scenario, lets see if he is worth it. Save 1 run against the panthers he has been SOFT.

  15. unbelievable Says:

Big chance for Fournette to step up and get a payday next year…

  16. Mike Says:

Not like it’s going to affect his catching, so not terribly worrisome. Might be a good thing in that he will be fresh to finish out the season and going into the playoffs.

  17. Robert Says:

bring on fournette. he looked a beast early on when he got more touches……probably same as rojo or any other back……just needs to get warmed up.

  18. BucDan Says:

Should def see more of Shady and Lenny, but I would love to see what Vaughn can do behind this line and out of the backfield. I felt bad for the guy when he got in the game this weekend and promptly put on his ass for a negative rush (though the play run looked like it wasn’t;t a good matchup for the D on the down).

  19. SOEbuc Says:

Sit him please. Give Fournette more carries in the I-formation and I think he would improve. Shady was looking very fresh. No need to put in very good RB against such a bad team. Even without RoJo, if it’s a close game because Tom and the Bucs get only 200 yards passing and the defense doesn’t get hot till the fourth quarter, we might make it to the playoffs, but it sounds like a joke we have a chance to go deep or even past the first wild card. But being a true Buc, I alway BUCSys keep the faith.

    GO BUCS!!!

  20. SOEbuc Says:

Don’t feel Vaughn has found his running game yet but he has good hands and wheels. According to everyone ever, Tom needs a good drop down RB to succeed.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Fournette is playing for next year’s salary for someone else…..

  22. zzbuc Says:

    @JimmyJack

Maybe you are right my friend, Ive never was super high on Rojo despite this year he showed that he can run…..And stats don´t lie on that matter…..I still think he is not a good blocker, nad most of the times he can catch, maybe he is getting better, I would love that, because that will elevate TB12 game too…..

  23. Defense Rules Says:

TBBF … I agree, but if he balls out & does great over these next 3 games AND playoffs then I’m happy for him. And for us.

  24. CChead Says:

Its a freakin pinkie. He’ll play.

  25. unbelievable Says:

@tbbf – 100%, but he was never going to be here next year anyways.

And that was kinda my point. Let him ball out for us now, and then earn a nice contract somewhere else next year. Sounds like a win-win to me.

  26. cmurda Says:

I agree with none of what zz said Jimmy. ROJO can catch the ball. He had a couple of fluky fumbles off passes. He also had a TD just a couple games ago on a great catch and run. Take that generalization with a grain of salt. As for blitz pickup, that’s an absolute crock. have you even watched the games? ROJO had those issues early on in the learning process. He’s been great ever since. There may be 99 problems but ROJO ain’t one.

  27. orlbucfan Says:

He only needs 100:yards to hit 1000. If the pinkie is an issue, rest him. Let’s see what Shady, Fournette and Vaughn have. And spare me the run up the middle on first down. That is way beyond old.

  28. CleanHouse Says:

hopefully getting benched lit a fire under fournette, I think he’s obviously very good , but seemed a bit unfocused without a sense of urgency.

    AlteredEgo:
Ran into Ronnie Lott at the bar in Iavarones’s way back when his son Ryan Nece was playing for the Bucs. So exciting to meet him though he said he thought I was too young to know about him. He did buy me a drink and showed me his hand. Super cool moment but that was it I joined my friends for dinner, who definitely didn’t appreciate the football history as much as I did.

  30. Mike Johnson Says:

Now is your chance sir..paging Mr Fournette? Anybody home..Hello? Show us you still got it. Batter up.

  31. mg Says:

getting everyone playing down the stretch isn’t a bad thing and a little rest can help a starting running back this late in the season

  32. Greg Says:

Best wishes for RoJo! This guy does not have confidence in Fournette as evidenced on the play where he had a massive lane (rams) and saw the safety step in and he chose to decline and run into his centers backside so he wouldn’t get hit. Super ability but does he want it?

  33. adam from ny Says:

    unleash fournette this week…

give him the 20 rushes as you would rojo….

maybe he will hit his groove or stride with a heavy dose of touches

  34. adam from ny Says:

if he plays soft ease back after 10 carries, and let mccoy get a handful

  35. rrsrq Says:

I seriously think that ME13 and TB12 along with the team wants ME to get that 1K (unless RM81 told TB12 to not let it happen), i.e., I think ME will get at a minimum 150 yards of work. That game last week with more runs than passes, will not happen this week

  36. Bucshot Says:

    God speed ya beast!
