Playoff Percentages

December 3rd, 2020

Math on Bucs.

So, after the Bucs lost their third of four games against the Chiefs last weekend, what shot do they have of making the playoffs?

The statheads have weighed in.

Over at PlayoffStatus.com, the Bucs don’t seem to be as much of a lock as some nerds thing. This outfit has the Bucs making the playoffs at 78 percent. FootballOutsiders.com data is more optimistic. They have the Bucs with an 86 percent shot of making the playoffs.

The notorious FiveThirtyEight.com site is nearly as pessimistic as Playoff Status. This site, known for its well-documented accuracy on presidential elections (cough), thinks the Bucs have a 77 percent chance of playing a meaningful game in January.

And the New York Times has an NFL playoff predictor. They ran 237,000 simulations and in 75 percent of them, the Bucs are in the playoffs.

No more farting around, though.

Half the biggest and brightest should be breaking down Vikings film as Joe is typing this and the bigwigs on the Bucs’ staff ought to be finding ways to generate more offense in the first half and better defensive gameplans.

Five thirty eight predicted the election correctly, Joe. Just because they say something has a 95% chance of something happening doesn’t mean it will be a landslide 95% of the time.

Beat MN and Atl once or Detroit, and in.

Beating the Vikings would all but assure that the Bucs finish ahead of them, as they have the Saints, too. Arizona has 2 games against the Rams, one against SF. Two losses knocks them out. SF has Buffalo, AZ and Seattle, so 2 loss knocks them out. Chicago plays Minnesota and GB, so two losses knock them out.

It’s been years since it was necessary to do this evaluation in December. Reminds me of almost every year under Dungy after his first.

None of this means anything……the bottom line is….we must beat the Vikings…

Atlanta is the team to watch. They were blown out by the Saints because of nine holding penalties (a fix?) and a great Saints pass rush. The Ice melted in a hurry.
The next week, however, the Ice had no heat and destroyed the Raiders. I’m telling ya, Raheem has these guys playing well. Without constant pressure on Matt Ryan, we lose. And if we continue to play the COVER NOBODY zone defense, we definitely lose.

Gotta beat minny GOT to have that game!
Start fast on both sides of the ball. Vikings have some talent but there is no reason at all we shouldn’t win this game

  6. Show Me the TDs Says:

It’s simple. It’s all about “want to”. If the Bucs can’t beat the remaining teams on their schedule, it will be because of a lack of effort. If they don’t want to win badly enough, I’m not going to lose any sleep over it.

  7. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Remember when you like that went screaming after he made a comeback against our Bucs? Well I sure didn’t forget that annoying rant and I sure hope neither did the Bucs. That should be motivation to destroy Cousins. Go Bucs! Every detail counts from here on out.

  8. Clean House Says:

    Bucs 7-9
    You like that!?!
