Fournette For The Win

December 20th, 2020

Sure, the Bucs likely will beat the Falcons today behind a suffocating run defense and a pass rush that is a perfect fit for immobile, hold-it-too-long Matt Ryan.

But the “W” could come in a much more intriguing way.

Leonard Fournette gets the start today for out-with-COVID Ronald Jones. It’s a brutal break for RoJo, who is just 100 yards shy of 1,000 for the season.

Fournette has everything to play for, but that also includes becoming the Bucs’ No. 1 running back for the rest of the season.

Yeah, really.

It’s nice to think RoJo will be back healthy next week, but perhaps he won’t be, and perhaps Fournette will seize the day and rumble for, say, 135 yards on 26 carries and catch two touchdown passes out of the backfield.

Then what?

Fournette once dominated in a playoff game for Jacksonville, and he’s arguably more talented than RoJo.

Would the Bucs ditch the hot hand if that is Fournette with fresh legs? The stage that is the Bucs’ backfield could get very interesting by this evening.

He definitely has a chance to regain some relevance on the team.

An ex-Jaguar LT and a ex Jaguar RB, hmmm. Might there be a little chemistry between these two “replacements” that we can be considering? Just saying.

We are being so stubborn with the run 30 times thing. The Falcons are actually really good against the run, they last in a lot of categories against the pass. Literally the perfect opportunity for Brady to work on timing with the position of STRENGTH of this team: Evans/Godwin/Scotty/AB. We shouldn’t have some sort of weird PTSD of throwing 40 times. It’s ok, this is the Falcons, air it out.

I could see this happening, but it would happen in the track meet that most likely will happen today in Hotlanta. As bad as the Falcons have played, they still are a division opponent that knows the Bucs. With the defense just treading water most of the time nowadays, it will be a problem for the defense to stop the Falcons. Matty ice has done a lot of damage over the years against the Bucs. I sure hope he does not, but to think we will just have a cakewalk today, is being very hopeful. It could happen and would be nice, but I think there will be a track meet, even without Julio Jones. Give Tom time and run the ball down the Falcons throat and get out with the 9th win of the season. GO BUCS!!!

Joe, Have you not watched Fournette play this season? He’s got nothing. I’m not RoJo’s agent or anything but he’s clearly better than Fournette .

    2020: Jones > Fournette

Fournette is not playing for wins or glory, he’s playing for relevance.

Outside a few plays, he has not shown much in pewter. I hope that changes.

I’d also like to see Vaughan get some meaningful snaps, out of the 25-30 run plays I hope LT calls.

If he plays exceptionally well today, I’d go with the hot hand next week. Still want RoJo to hit 1K.

  8. Brandon Says:

He is faster and bigger than Jones but in no way is he more talented. Balance, tackle breaking, and desire have to factor into talent. Fournette can’t break a tackle from a two year old.

  9. RustyRhinos Says:

Ready to see Vaughn get more than 4 carries in a game. If Fournette stumbles let’s go with the rookie, get him some experience.

Coaching is pathetic… Tampa needs to clean house…
Hire Josh McDaniels and bring in Matt Patricia to run D
